Newcastle vs West Ham – Beye Makes First Start

Sam Allardyce gives a first start to right-back Habib Beye to the exclusion of local youngster Steven Taylor – who is on the subs bench. Sam also welcomes back Mark Viduka into the starting line-up while Jose Enrique is included among the substitutes after finally recovering from his hamstring injury.

Nicky Butt will make his 500th career appearance and 21 year-old winger James Milner the 200th of his career.

Habib Beye – makes first start at right-back

Only Lee Bowyer of the former Newcastle players will start for West Ham while Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy did not travel with the squad. Nobby Solano did travel but surprisingly was not included on the subs’ bench. Kieron Dyer is out for a long time with his broken leg.

Teams:

Newcastle: Steve Harper, Habib Beye, Cacapa, David Rozehnal, Charles N’Zogbia, Alan Smith, Geremi, Nicky Butt, James Milner, Michael Owen, Mark Viduka

Subs: Shay Given, Jose Enrique, Oba Martins, Abdoulaye Faye, Steven Taylor

West Ham: Robert Green, Lucas Neill, Anton Ferdinand, Matthew Upson, George McCartney, Lee Bowyer, Hayden Mullins, Mark Noble, Matt Etherington, Carlton Cole, Dean Ashton

Subs: Freddie Ljungberg, Jonathan Spector, James Collins, Richard Wright, Henri Camara

Referee: Mike Riley

Result…no Ameobi in sight! Praise the Lord!

Still not happy that Smith is on the wing with Butt and Geremi in CM slots, but hopefully the Derby game will have given them a kick up the arse.

Fingers crossed that Enrique is fit enough to see the second half where hopfully we’ll line up as follows:

    Harper
    Beye Cacapa Roz Enrique
    Milner Geremi Smith Zog
    Owen Viduka/Martins

Hope we can play well today, will be a tough game but I hope we can get the 3 points.

I must say I’m worried that Given is on the bench, doesn’t bode well for his future.

Side note: Class finish Viduka!!! Great start!

Viduka doesnt seem to be winning many of the balls in the air when they’re being kicked up field, I have to say. The midfield of Geremi and Butt dont seem to be winning anything in the air when going forward but they are defending quite well. Smith seems lost again as well.

Beye does look great with the speed he’s showing when we’re used to the grandad (Carr)!!

We need to get more balls played through the midfield on the ground.

Fingers crossed for another goal for the Toon soon!

Yeah we need to use the center midfield more , keep the ball down, keep posession and feed more balls to Owen.

    Defense looks great though.

viduka’s done more with the ball so far than shola did all game in the derby match .
his strength on the ball is great, holds the ball up very well for us .
harper is looking dodgey , and out back 4 is looking great so far , gotta get zoggy up that pitch more, zoggy and millner on each wing and were sorted

terrible goal, far to much time on the ball for the west ham strikers , and after two good saves harpers positioning looked terrible , he wasnt even in a position to go for that

Bugger! Ashton scores, 1-1. West Ham looking ever more confident and we’re giving them far too much time on the ball. We def need to play the ball in through the midfield more – specifically need more use of Milner on the wing.

As soon as Geremi, Butt or Smith get the ball they look underconfident in going forward so end up passing the ball back to the defence. Ball then gets howked upfield and West Ham take possession! D’Oh!

What is Harper gonna do to that goal? Ashton gets too much space to turn and score, with Butt and Rozehnal looking. Harper can’t cover all of the goal.
1-1 now but not the end of the world. Halftime is coming up, and after the tea, we will hopefully see Martins on the pitch.

I think we’re lacking some rhythm – did I just see Harper watch the ball into his own net again just like he did on Monday night? If you can’t be bothered mate then just say so.

Not good enough Steve. You fight for EVERY ball

Another great run down the left from Zog who plays it across the lin to Viduka who knocks it in from a few yards! Keep this scorline until half time and it would be a great start for the 2nd half!
