TEAMS
Newcastle: Shay Given, Habib Beye, Steven Taylor, David Rozehnal, Charles N’Zogbia, James Milner, Alan Smith, Geremi, Nicky Butt, Mark Viduka, Oba Martins
Subs: Steve Harper, Jose Enrique, Emre, Abdoulaye Faye, Matty Pattison
Manchester City: Joe Hart, Vedran Corluka, Javier Garrido, Richard Dunne, Micah Richards, Stephen Ireland, Michael Johnson, Martin Petrov, Dietmar Hamann, Elano, Emile Mpenza
Referee: Chris Foy
Big Big surprise in the Newcastle line up as Shay Given keeps his place and Steve Harper is on the sidelines. This is a bit strange because before the Arsenal game Allardyce said that Harper would return on Saturday. Where is Sinead 😀
Mark Viduka is passed fit having missed the midweek Carling Cup defeat at Arsenal with a sore foot and he starts alongside Oba Martins in attack. Another slight surprise is that Charles N’Zogbia will return to the left-back position and will be joined in defence by Habib Beye, Steven Taylor and David Rozehnal.
Skipper Geremi is back in midfield and is joined by Nicky Butt, James Milner and Alan Smith. Enrique, Harper, Faye and Emre are on the bench – as is Matty Pattison – so this could be another chance for the South African youngster.
For Man City the only change is Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel who drops down to the bench with Joe Hart coming in. Joe is the current England Under-21 goalkeeper and has looked good and is another player Steven Taylor knows well in the City side.
We’ll be back at half time – and then full time with our full report on the match and interviews. A draw would be OK but we really need a win – and that will not be easy.Howay the Lads.

Comment #2Yeah interesting changes by Sam, seems like Jose is still no ready.
However i don’t like the fact that Butt is in the team and that Smith is on the wing again.
Looking forward to seeing Emre though.

Comment #4Not a bad looking side although Zog’s better going forward than defending…..
I’m not sure what Matty Pattisonis doing on the bench, surely the only way he’ll get on is if we are 6-0 up with 5 minutes to go.
Hallo looks like Pedro is the guest on Sky Sports 1….voted best player ever in a Black and White shirt……..Well done Peter.

Comment #5Very strong squad. But I would prefer Faye in Butt’s place. And I hope Emre comes on to give us that creative touch.
Go the Toon!!!

Comment #15Well lets just say, Harper is playing really well, he expects to be able to keep his place… and then Given has a great week in training, looks fit and is performing well…. Given gets picked… where does that leave Harper?… He may then feel that Sam’s judgement is incorrect because it is him who is performing well in the matches. That will also dent his confidence… as well as losing it in His managers judgement.

Comment #251-1 Petrov equalises – that was a break on N’Zogbia’s side – was a bit too casual coming back givin Ireland too much space to put the cross in

Comment #33Ireland is so dangerous, he can really cause problems, he tends to score goals when you think he’s run the ball over too much or the corners to tight. He’s a really cool finisher, he doesn’t panic and he provides good ball to the guys up front. They can’t afford to give him space.

Comment #38Seems as if Man C’s targeting Taylor and waiting for Zog to push up so they can catch us on the break. I think we need Enrique on so Zog can take over in midfield. Maybe bring Faye on.
Come on lads! Get in there, we can take them.
