It could well be that Abdoulaye Faye will get a start on Sunday, either at center-back or defensive midfield. If Cacapa is still out then certainly we believe Faye will partner Roz at the center of the Newcastle defense.
If Cacapa is fit and selected it is likely Faye could start in defensive midfield because neither Butt not Geremi had sparkling games on Saturday. Against Manchester City the back four and midfield didn’t get the job done defensively an cost us a result.
Faye has been talking to the Evening Chronicle today – so we”ll look at what the Senegalese International had to say.
Abdoulaye Faye – has first class attitude and could start on Sunday
Faye told the Chronicle today:
“The manager was a big reason why I came to Newcastle.†“I enjoyed my time playing under him at Bolton and I am looking forward to my future here.†“I know that just because he is my old manager I am not certain to play so I have to battle for my place here.â€
“I can play in central midfield and I think that is my best position.†“But I have also played as a defender in the middle during my career too, like I did at Bolton, so if needed I will play there.â€
“Where I play is up to the manager, but I would be happy to play in either position.â€â€œThe future looks good here and I hope that I can help Newcastle reach a European place.â€
Faye’s best position is defensive midfield but he can also play at center-back which he did for Bolton last season. A surprise on Sunday may be that he is tried out at center-back with David Rozehnal. That would be even more likely if Cacapa is still not fit. Taylor is probably due a little rest and Sam will be very anxious to pick the most sold defense he can muster for the game against Everton. Just like last Saturday the defensive performance will be key in getting us a win on Sunday.
We really like the attitude of Faye and he’s not the type of player who will be content just to sit on the sidelines at Newcastle. Since Butt and Geremi both had mediocre games against Man City, maybe he’ll get a start on Sunday. If Enrique is match fit he could finally start at left-back and we could always try N’Zogbia in central midfield. If not there, then we could play 4-4-2 with Milner and Charles on the wings.
What do you think? Comments very welcome.
