Abdoulaye Faye Likely to Start Against Everton

It could well be that Abdoulaye Faye will get a start on Sunday, either at center-back or defensive midfield. If Cacapa is still out then certainly we believe Faye will partner Roz at the center of the Newcastle defense.

If Cacapa is fit and selected it is likely Faye could start in defensive midfield because neither Butt not Geremi had sparkling games on Saturday. Against Manchester City the back four and midfield didn’t get the job done defensively an cost us a result.

Faye has been talking to the Evening Chronicle today – so we”ll look at what the Senegalese International had to say.

abdoulaye-faye-123.jpg

Abdoulaye Faye – has first class attitude and could start on Sunday

Faye told the Chronicle today:

“The manager was a big reason why I came to Newcastle.” “I enjoyed my time playing under him at Bolton and I am looking forward to my future here.” “I know that just because he is my old manager I am not certain to play so I have to battle for my place here.”

“I can play in central midfield and I think that is my best position.” “But I have also played as a defender in the middle during my career too, like I did at Bolton, so if needed I will play there.”

“Where I play is up to the manager, but I would be happy to play in either position.”“The future looks good here and I hope that I can help Newcastle reach a European place.”

Faye’s best position is defensive midfield but he can also play at center-back which he did for Bolton last season. A surprise on Sunday may be that he is tried out at center-back with David Rozehnal. That would be even more likely if Cacapa is still not fit. Taylor is probably due a little rest and Sam will be very anxious to pick the most sold defense he can muster for the game against Everton. Just like last Saturday the defensive performance will be key in getting us a win on Sunday.

We really like the attitude of Faye and he’s not the type of player who will be content just to sit on the sidelines at Newcastle. Since Butt and Geremi both had mediocre games against Man City, maybe he’ll get a start on Sunday. If Enrique is match fit he could finally start at left-back and we could always try N’Zogbia in central midfield. If not there, then we could play 4-4-2 with Milner and Charles on the wings.

What do you think? Comments very welcome.

to be honest…its looking like sam has his favourites…he’ll not drop geremi or butt, or smith for that matter…dont agree with that myself, but thats the way its looking. dont know what he’s gonna do when everyones fit…..whats the odds he starts with zog at left back and leaves enrique on the bench….gets on my tits that does.

milners done nothing for me lately , leading back to a point i made a few weeks back in that our young guys are either exellent or mediocre , and we cant afford anyone on the pitch having off games .
zoggy and milner need tobe used when and where they are availible , but not relied upon just yet .
so id like geremi maybe moved to the right for a game and faye come into the
    centre from kick off .
atm i think the toon are crying out for duff and barton back , and emre to show glimpses of hope .

totally agree hadrian, defo, we should not have to rely on our youngsters, but for a season or so that will be the case until some experienced players can be bought in to compete with them, and i mean quality experience, not crap…

I have been surprised at how defensively Smith has played. I would play the following:

    …………………………….Harps…………………………………
    …………………..Taylor…………Rozenhal………………..
    Geremi………………………………………………Enrique…..
    ………………………………………………………………………
    ……………………..Smith……………………………………….
    ………………………………….Emre…………………………….
    Milner………………………………………………..N’Zogbia..
    ………………………………………………………………………
    ………………………Viduka…..Martins………………………

That’s with the people we have fit at the moment. Beye, Butt and Faye pushing people in the starting lineup..

    …………..Given………
    geremi…Cacapa..Rozy….Enrique
    ……………Faye………

Alex – we have to do that because hopefully Everton will be tired from their game on Thursday evening in the Ukraine. 2 goals up in first 5 mins would be nice.

Hadrian I don’t see how we can have Barton back as he hasn’t played a game yet. Iv’e been away for last few weeks and missed the Arsenal blog, boy was there some angst generated there. I would have to say that if the gooners are reading this site still that however well intentioned their comments were they should appreciate that we have had to much hurt over the past 50 years and any platitudes may sound to much like patronisation. Best to say nowt!

I think Milner needs a rest and a drop to reflect, hes not done well.
Either Capaca / Taylor or Faye to fight for that place in central Defence.

If Viduka aint fit enough, then Smith and Martins up top with Geremi or Faye slipping into Central midfield and Milner on wing.

If Emre aint fit enough or had enough games to start, then put Milner on wide right and Geremi in the middle.

Its a game we will be up for 110% and dont be suprised you see the best performance of the season yet.

i dont understand all this talk of emre in all your starting line ups well most of yours the guy has not showed anything for a long time for me he goes to play for turkey comes back injured but soon as another turkey game is on he is back of the injury list we cant rely on him so why start him i know your all gonna say but he is creative and yes i agree he WAS creative but his creativity is non existent now and it has for most of last season so i say stick him on bench and sell in january my team will be

    given

    beye cacapa/faye rozy enrique

    milner geremi smith zog

    viduka martins

    smith pushing on

    How’s about
    Harper
    Beye Cacapa Roz Enrique
    Geremi Faye Zog
    Milner or Emre
    Martins Viduka or Smith
With this formation surely either Milner or Emre could supply some sort of support to our front 2 in the past few games the strikers looked very isolated. Geremi and Faye playing wide right and defencive midfield would be idealy placed to help out the back 4. Whoever plays at left back this weekend is gonna need help defending against Arteta who surprise surprise is starting to find some form.
