Steven Taylor – Away Form Just Not Good Enough

Steven Taylor has talked today about how the defense did not perform on Saturday and didn’t give Shay Given enough protection in his comeback game.

It’s not often we concede 3 goals and Steven also points out we now have 3 away defeats in a row and our away form seems no better, at the moment, than last season. Both the defense and our away form will need improve – quickly.

Let’s take a look at what Steve has to say about Saturday.

Steven Taylor – defense not good enough, we agree

This is what Steven Taylor said today about Shay Given and the Newcastle team:

“He put a good performance in against Arsenal (in Tuesday’s Carling Cup third-round defeat) and on Saturday he was unlucky with the goals. The last one he couldn’t do anything about.”

“The lads are disappointed but we’ve just got to hold our hands up, forget about it and look to the future.”

“Things didn’t go well for us all over the park,” “We had a couple of good chances. We want to improve our away form, it’s three defeats on the trot away and we’ve got to put that right. We didn’t pass the ball as well as we can.”

“They’re a good side but on our day we can match them. I believe we’re good enough to come to places like this and get a good result. Last season our away form wasn’t the best. It’s three (away defeats) on the bounce now and we’ve got put that right sooner rather than later.”

We thought Sam could have changed things around a little earlier on Saturday and brought on one of our most creative and skilled players in Emre. But the little Turkish midfielder was only an 88th-minute substitute on Saturday, far too late to be expected to do anything. We’ll assume Sam may play him on Sunday against Everton, as it could be time for Emre to give Newcastle a good full creative game. He will be off  again to play for Turkey in the upcoming international break.

We also think Steven did not have one of his better games against City and it does look like we may have missed Claudio Cacapa in our last two defeats. But Caçapa just failed a fitness test on his groin and we expect him to be ready to play at Everton and we expect him to join Rozehnal at the center of Newcastle’s defense. We think Steven will start on the bench against Everton.

We’d also like to see the Zog tried in central midfield, since we feel he can provide the energy and creativity, which is sadly missing when Butt and Geremi play together. Looks like this all depends on when Big Sam decides to start Enrique at left back, which will free up N’Zogbia. We’ll have to wait and see but Enrique will get another game under his belt for the Reserves at Manchester City tonight.

Agreed – would like to see cacapa back, enrique in at LB, zoggy moved into midfield and emre starting for the game with Everton.
We should manage to beat them as they don’t move the ball around as fast as Man City, Arsenal and strikers aren’t the speediest. Just need to be wary of Arteta and any set pieces
    c’mon the toon

Steven Taylor mentions our away form last season being poor, what about the season berfore that and that ?
When did we last Boss a decent team away from home?
Everton will hammer the new defensive “bOLtoon” you mark my words.Emre if he starts will do nothing creative,he is a lazy little turkish midget..he has done nothing for newcastle since his arrival and Ihave seen more creativity in my big toe.

Providing everyone is fit I’d like to see a more creative fearless approach taken to the home game against everton.
Bench, Harper, Smith, Capaca, Butt and a youngster

We have a good record at home and need to keep this run going. Did you hear the Man C fans last week. The roar was defeaning and could not help but lift a home team.

Zog on the left wing surely? Perhaps Emre in the centre with Geremi.

Really believe Smith could be left on the bench for this one along with Butt.

Taylor was poor against City (among others) and the Enrique/Emre substitutions far too late to make a difference.

Cacapa, Emre and Enrique will hopefully make starting 11 on Sunday. Everton playing in Ukraine this week and should stretch their resources and hinder their performance to ensure we win!

Why on earth would anyone want Emre in the team. Emre is simply brushed aside by every team we play, Everton will have him for lunch.
