Sma Allardyce’s £5.8M summer signing played a full 45 minutes for the Reserves in their 2-2 draw with his his former club Man City on Tuesday night.
Joey had said last weekend he may be able to make the Everton game but Big Sam countered that by saying it will be 3-4 weeks before Joey is back fully.
But Joey says he understands Big Sam’s reticence to throw him straight back into first-team action too early – but it looks like he’ll be missing just one more game before he’s back – the game at Everton on Sunday. Good news indeed.
Joey Barton – just itching to get back playing in first team
Barton told Newcastle World TV.
“Of course me and the manager have different ideas on when I’m fit because I just can’t wait to get back playing,” ”
But I understand he doesn’t want to take any risks and my next game will probably be for the Reserves against Wigan next Monday when hopefully this time I’ll get 60 or 70 minutes.â€
“After that we’ve got two weeks when I can get some good work done on the training ground during the international break.†“But It was great to get back out there against Man City and get 45 minutes under my belt.â€
It does seem like Joey will be ready to go at Tottenham in our home game on Monday evening 22nd October. That’s 2 weeks come next Monday so that seems plenty of time to Joey to get rehabilitated and maybe play in some pre-arranged friendlies to help him come back. That’s got to be good news for fans because he will probably only miss one more game.
Joey went on:
“The foot is still a little bit sore but the surgeon said that would be the case when I first started playing again.”
” I spoke to Michael Owen and he had the same injury and he said it would be a bit achy when you first come back because obviously there’s a screw in there.â€
“But hopefully when I do come back I’ll bring some goals to the team and I just can’t wait.” “I’ve been in the dressing room with the lads before and after games recently and I’ve become a bit of a full-time supporter,”
“The lads have been taking the mickey but I don’t mind, I’m just happy to offer them my support because there’s a great spirit among the lads.”
As you can see Joey admitted on the video he has been the subject of a fair bit of mickey-taking having become something of a full-time supporter as he follows his United team-mates around the country. Well we really like that – it just shows you how committed Joey is to Newcastle and its future.
Cannot wait for Joey to return – in around 3 weeks yes – but only one game away.
