There’s news exclusively in the Sun today that Manchester City manager Sven Eriksson would like to sign Michael Owen in January from his current club Newcastle United.
The report says that Owen is unsettled at Newcastle and it opens the door for Eriksson, who has always been keen on Owen as a top class player.
Michael Owen – Sven Eriksson wants him at Manchester City?
The Sun isn’t exactly a newspaper that can be relied on for reporting the truth and it looks like this story is completely made up. It even quotes a fee of around £15M that it would cost City for Owen and says that may be too much for Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra.
This story is complete nonsense.
We would not be surprised if Sam has been on the phone with Michael to make sure all is OK with him, because the press is blowing this unrest out of all proportion. Owen needs to understand that Newcastle fans are justifiably unhappy that Owen has played few games for Newcastle and almost as many for England in the 26 months he has been at the club. That’s a fact.
But that doesn’t mean they are unhappy with Michael at Newcastle. They just want to see him play more games and score goals. These stories on Owen are getting out of hand but we trust Sam, who is known to be an excellent communicator with his players, is in contact with Michael.

Comment #41doesn’t matter when you “lorded it” no one cares about City! seriously, the only team in manchester is united. By the way , what is your argument to my statement concerning Elano, Petrov and Richards? these three players who are carrying your team right now, you know just as i do they dont wan’t to play for your pathetic little club, they will ALL be gone within the next two years, get real, you dont even exist outside of U.K, whens the last time you lot played champions league football??…WAKE UP!!!!

Comment #43colin if anyone is a muppet it is you… you put in the avarage attendances for nufc, i wonder what the mancity attendences were???
so you also do the contracts for nufc players to know that he has that written into his contract…
you must have a fun life having to spend your time on a nufc forum, well obviously there isnt any forums for mancity, because they arent a big club
i say yet because i like mancity and believe they can do well this season.

Comment #47Ed – I think what Sven has done this season has been amazing – so far. Its not long gone and as we all know its about what happens at the end of the season that counts.
Judging by the comments by City fans you’d think they’d won the Double already. Simmer down boys and wind your necks in, we’ll see what happens end of season.

Comment #48why does everybody hate Owen all of a sudden??
we have one of the worlds best strikers in our team, and scoring…yet everyone is moaning about him!! he is englands no. 1 striker. we should all be proud as punch that he is a newcastle united player! i know i am.
I wouldn’t be suprised if he does leave because of our ungrateful supporters! we’ll soon notice when he is gone.

Comment #49Why would it be so bad if he was sold??? If we got £15 million or so for him and then went out and bought Eto’o or a similar quality striker, who really wanted to play for us, would that not be a shrewd business move for NUFC???
Mike Ashley would have his global superstar to help the brand marketing and NUFC would have a suberb footballer. Great bit of business in mho.

Comment #50City won’t sign Owen. We’re building a young, fit team and Owen is too injury prone and too expensive. If we sign Owen (or Crouch for that matter), I will eat my hat (and my whippet). PS, you can keep Barton…. until he moves into his cell.

Comment #51Please listen. Michael Owen is going no where. If you don’t believe it please yourselves.
He has just moved into a new house in Northumberland, his kids are happy at school here. His wife loves it up here, and first and foremost he loves it here.
Take it as read, he wants the mantle Shearer has here desperately. He isn’t stupid, and knows that if by some strange quirk of fate his goals lead to a trophy he will be a big if not bigger than AL.
Just wait a second and think what he’s been through in the last two years. It would have probably broken weaker men, but he ain’t weak by any stretch of the imagination. He’s very very focused and he wants to play for our club desparately.
As for the story in that joke some people call a daily newspaper, if you think its true you need therapy. Its reporters are on a par with those of its sister paper the Sport. Need I say more. “Spitfire on the moon etc. Wake up man!
Michael Owen will make news wherever he goes. World class players tend to do that. If we want to achieve ours ambition of supporting a club which wins things and possesses world class players we are going to have to put up with it, or go and watch
Westerhope Excelsior.

Comment #52Woah, woah, woah Dragonboy and Philly. What are you on about? All I hear is blah, blah this and blah, blah that. Well shut up!
And putting things into perspective, first to the dragonman, Man City have a far greater manager and a far greater youth system than Newcastle. Also yo were only one point higher than them last season. They are doing way better than you at the moment and there is a chance they could do what Everton did a couple years ago and get them a shock chamions league place (In fairness it’s more likely to be them than you)
PS. I hear that Manchester City are the only club from Manchester.
And to Phil, in the past few years Newcastle have been a far, far superior team to you. And even now they are still getting 10,000 more a week than you are anyway so stop being so hypocritical. And that trophy’s thing doesn’t really matter when they’re playing the best teams in Europe and you are fighting it out with the likes Fulham and West Ham.

Comment #53What is it whit these clubs who have an ok season and suddenly they start to big mouth?… I have seen it with Spurs first, then Villa and now City???… Its a shame really, cause fans like that are the ones that create animosity towards their club… i already hate the sight of Spurs and Villa and City are getting there pretty quick too… The funny thing is that as a Newcastle supporter, but also football fan in general i can tell u that the EPL is pretty big in Denmark where i come from… Most are United supporters, but we also have allot of newcastle, liverpool, chelsea and arsenal fans but clubs such as City, Spurs and Villa have NO appeal outside of England and my guess is that city’s fans all live in Manchester, so really all u City supporters… how big can your club be?
When that is said, we all know that an Injury to Petrov will put u guys back where u belong.

Comment #54Brummie guy, you have no right to comment about Premier League football, just go away and prepare yourself for the matches against the likes of wolves, sheffield united etc next year.
Valle, i second your comment, spurs and villa fans like to think they are a bigger, better team than us, yet we was playing champions league football only a few years back, and i cant remember when they ever played champions league football, but this man city stuff is just ridiculous, we are talking about a small time club that haven’t even played champions league football from what i can remember, yet after a few good performances they are all boasting and bragging, wtf!!?!?! i dont get it
i can’t wait until a bigger club comes for their good players and they all leave without a second thought, lets see how cocky these fans of a non existent team are then, starting with micah richards, say bye bye city, he is a gooner

Comment #55I’m confused do you guys support NUFC or MUFC ????
You’re no bigger than us, actually we’re both mid-sized, mid-UEFA standard clubs – I think we have a bigger turnover £££’s than you but only by a bit.
Why then are you getting all Rag-ish with this little club / one team in Manchester cr@p?
As I said Owen’s going nowhere, you need him & we don’t want him. End of.
PS Valle – we have ‘no appeal outside England’? and you’d know this for a fact would you ?
Denmark = the whole of the rest of the world???
Christ I’ve heard some rubbish in my time but that is priceless

Comment #58nah I don’t think he’ll be coming to City any time soon. For a start eriksson isn’t buying in older crocked players right now and what ever Owen costs would be over-priced. No offence he’s a great striker but there are cheaper players available from overseas – you buy English you pay more.

Comment #59@bluecore : The Toon is not bigger than City ??? WTF u talking about ??
We have the bigger stadium, the larger fanbase, the bigger attendances, and the bigger revenue.
We have a club value of 260Million while u are at 200M, u guys have a dept of 83M while we have 46M and we have a revenue of 159M while u guys have 114M. We are the 13th ranked club in the world based on value and only the big 4 have higher revenue then us.
And like it or not City have no draw outside of the Uk. Most of your fans come from villages in the Manchester region, the majority of people living in Manchester support United and thats a fact.

Comment #60Hey dragoner, Manchester is a big place, there are two clubs there and granted City are the smaller of the two but still bigger than Newcastle and before you repeat yourself with the” who are city statement”, they are that team that gave you boys a good kicking a couple of weeks ago.. Hey one final thing and I probably speak for the majority of City fans, we dont want MO, you can keep him. Im sure SGE will have somebody miles better in mind.
Oh and if you read our newspapers, Richards will have signed a 5 year contract b next week, that one player probably worth more than your entire squad

Comment #62Elano you are a true idiot if you think micah signing a contract means he aint going to Arsenal soon, in case you aint noticed, contracts aren’t what they used to be, and long term contracts in truth mean very little when big clubs are involved…stop holding on to the hope that micah will stay you idiot, he said himself he wants to play for arsenal, except it, he dont want to play for a non existent club with no real status, by the way, i love your name, although i do wonder hwat you will change it to when elano leaves in the next year lol(maybe 2 years IF your lucky). face it, you lot are not a big club and big stars are NOT interested in YOU, you city fans are pathetic lol

Comment #65They can both be succesfull Ed, no problem there, what’s pissing me of are these wanker City fans who actually think City is a bigger club then the Toon. Anybody with half a brain can sit down in front of a computer and in 10 minutes find 10000000 financial and social reports proving City is nowhere near to the size of NUFC.
I just gave a few examples a few post back, read it and go back into hiding you inbreed City tossers.

Comment #67We’re more massive than you. No we’re more massive than you. No we’re really massive cos we play out of a massive stadium with massive stands where you sit half a mile from the pitch and big fat sam’s a massive, massive manager and all our supporters are massive even with out their shirts (or shoes) on.
No we’re more massive cos of our massive council house with our massively wealthy thai businessman backer. And our floodlights. And look how many of your fans turned up when you were in the lower divisions.
Blah-de-blah-de-blah.
I happen to support city but I can see the point united fans make – trying to argue that you are a big club is one of the most fatuous arguments that can be had. Who cares who is bigger than whoever else. Football is about results. If it wasn’t Glenn Roeder and Stuart Pearce would’ve kept their respective jobs. Your history is immaterial to your current results, what happens on the pitch from game to game is what counts, surely.
Right now City are doing enormously well mainly thanks to an incredible manager. Despite their amazing support Newcastle are stuttering a little but good god there’s the best part of three-quarters of a season left to go. Will Owen move to City? Not given the kind of signings Eriksson has made so far. Is he worth buying? Probably but it’s kind of irrelevant I really don’t think he is going anywhere. Will City finish above the Toon this season? We’ll see.
Have Newcastle bought an absolute pup in Joey Barton?
(grins shyly) sorry chaps, I think you’ve got another one there, he thinks he’s far better than he is.
