Sam Got Abdoulaye Faye For Heading Ability

Most fans will agree that Abdoulaye Faye had a solid game on Sunday in the center of Newcastle’s defense in our welcome win against Everton.

Sam has talked about the player he bought from Lens to Bolton for £750,000 in 2005, and then from Bolton to Newcastle for £2M last summer.

He looks to be a great acquisition for the Magpies – let’s take a look at what Sam has been saying about the Senegalese international.

Abdoulaye Faye – at Newcastle for his heading ability

Sam told the Shields Gazette today:

“Abdoulaye Faye’s here for his aerial dominance.” “Even though we’ve had a terrific start, on occasions that’s slightly been missing from our defensive unit.”

“You saw his dominance in that particular area (against Everton) and how important it was when (Tim) Howard was kicking a number of balls up the middle.”

“He was firing them over their midfield and into defense. Then we could go and play from there.” “It’s a terrific asset to have, and one that shone out.”

The 29 year-old is determined to secure a starting place at Newcastle, and will likely keep his place against Tottenham in our next home game. His partnership with the talented Brazilian Claudio Cacapa looked very promising on Sunday. We cannot wait for the current defense of Beye Cacapa Faye and Enrique to get a few more games under their belt. Then they should be an awsome unit.

Senegal have already qualified for the African Nations Cup in Ghana early next year, and have a friendly against Guinea on Sunday. Let’s hope Faye comes back fully fit.

Comments welcome.

i have always said Faye was a top signing and should go straight into first team, last two years for Bolton he has been their best defender (even though Ben Haim often gets the credit). Whilst others on here seemed to think steven taylor was better than him and should be picked in front of Faye…god knows how they got to THAT conclusion!? Anyway i am happy that people are beginning to recognise just how good this guy is, he is one of our top 3 defenders and our best defensive midfielder, he will soon be a regular first team player.

I think once we gel as a team all the players sam signed will look good,he is no mug in the transfer market.
I think if we keep emre and duff as well he will also get the best out of them too and hopefully tuffen the more fragile players too.

Sorry but I don’t see anything in the Wilkipedia writeup that would make me want to rush out and buy him.

    Dear Bill F,
Big Sam always bases his signings on Wilkipedia reviews.
He doesn’t have any scouts, when he hears about a player Wilkipedia is always his first port of call..this is the modern game Billy Boy 🙂

Did u guys see what this Krul guy declared ??

i’ll give u the most interesting part :

““[The Premiership] is the best league in the world. In Spain, players frolic with the ball much too much. And anyhow, in Newcastle I would be guaranteed a position in the main squad”, he added.”

Little cocky ain’t he ??, especially that we have Enrique now.

Hes means the frist squad of 25 or w/e not their B/reserves side. If he was spotted by Real Madrid on any level he has got to be half decent and he would be good back up.

Have we gone off Roz then have we? I think he has been one of our most solid players and should get the nod over Faye.
