Sam Allardyce has said today that Shola Ameobi will be back in training by the end of the week.
When that happens Newcastle will have only two out with injuries. Damien Duff, who is due to return from a foot injury on November 3rd, and long term injury casualty Peter Ramage, who isn’t due back from his ACL knee operation until next April.
Ameobi, however, will probably miss Monday’s clash with Spurs at St.James’ Park.
Shola Ameobi – back in full training tomorrow
26-year-old Ameobi picked up a groin injury in the Carling Cup tie at Arsenal last month and has watched United’s last two fixtures from the sidelines. However, his groin will not need surgery with the Nigerian-born striker expected to start training tomorrow.
Sam told nufc.co.uk today:
“Hopefully by the end of the week Shola will be back in training, but I don’t think he will be available for Monday,”
Meanwhile, Celestine Babayaro and Mark Viduka have also returned to training and could make the squad for the game against Spurs:
“Celestine actually trained for the first time on Monday,”
“Mark’s also back in training, as is Cacapa. Hopefully all of the players who have been away will report back with no problems.”
Alan Smith was rested by Steve McClaren for England’s recent European qualifying double-header because of a slight knee injury but that has cleared up nicely. But Alan will not be available due to his suspension for this game because of 5 yellow cards.
Sam continued
“He was rested by England last week, and he’s running now with no problems. He needed rest, and he got that with England,”
It’s good to see all our injured players back. Of course peter Ramage is out maybe for the rest of the season and the only other one to get back to full fitness now is Damien Duff. Sam has already said how keen he is to get the very best out of the Irishman, when he returns. We think Sam will do that and we really do seem to have a very strong squad now, with everyone being fit and pushing for a first team start.
First things first though – a good win on Monday night is the next step.
Comments very welcome.

Wow, the first comment about Babayaro that doesn’t involve dancefloor or drinks lol – I’m just glad the lads are back in training – even Babayaro. We can get more for a fit player than for an injured player 😉

Comment #2Ameobi, however, will probably miss Monday’s clash with Spurs at St.James’ Park –
He wouldnt have played anyway, a good servant to the club, but constantly hampered by injuries, and never likely to get a get a decent run in the side as he does not possess the quality of any of our other 4 strikers, i’d rather play any combination of Viduka, Martins, Owen and Smith before playing Ameobi. He just seems slow and not particularly good with the ball on the floor or in the air these days. Sorry to say it Shola but your days at Newcastle are numbered. If/when Shola does leave Newcastle, where do you think his likely destination would be? Wigan? Bolton?

Comment #7Mal, do West Ham not already have Sholas reflection in Carlton Cole?
I think Boro is a good shout and not one i had considered, although i cant see the signing of Shola, digging them out of the position theyre in. Boro for the fizzy pop league next season- hoorah!

Comment #1212m would be a lot but from the little I’ve seen of him he looks a real prospect. I’m surprised they want to sell him, hasn’t he been on loan to a championship club. I don’t think he looks any more of a prospect than Krul though. Don’t think we want him.

Comment #13i also dont believe we want him, i just thought it was a bit much considering given who is one of the leagues best is worth only 6mil and carson who is young and hasnt fullfilled all the talent that he promised-yet… ofcourse…
but if arsenal want given i hope they pay the right amount.

Comment #14I think Shola is about to get a major reality check. Shola to Wigan to partner Heskey, I dont think so. Shola to Bolton to replace Davies or Diouf, probably not. How about Shola to Norwich, Sheffield Wed, or QPR for less than 1 million followed by Whitley Bay within 2 years. Good laff about Baba doing some training.
