Sam Eyes 20 Points from First 10 Games

We have two games left before we complete the first 10 games of the season, and it turns out that San’s target was 20 points for that period.

So if we win the next 2 successive games we will reach 20 points. That is on target for a top 4 finish, but i will be no easy task against Tottenham tonight and Reading away on Saturday.

Sam Allardyce – with 2 successive wins Newcastle will have 20 points from first 10 games

Big Sam told the Chronicle live today:

“I have always split the season up into four phases – and if we can pick up a very important victory tonight, that takes us to 17 points with one game left in the first phase against Reading.”

“Anything we pick up from there, if it’s a point or if it’s good enough to be three, that gives you 20 points from 10 games. That is the ultimate goal for us to try to aim for now.”

“If we do the ultimate and win the next two, then it’s two points a game. That’s a top-four finish.” “We are not saying we will be able to keep it up – perhaps we will, perhaps we won’t.”

“We might have a phase where we dip off, we might have a phase where we can continue, but certainly, it would give us the ideal opportunity to get a top eight or better finish by putting that many points on the board in the first 10 matches.

“We have already made our best start for a number of years and if we do manage to win tonight it will be our best start for 10 years.”

Earlier in the season we had predicted 22 points from the first 10 games because we didn’t meet any of the top four in that period. We were a little over confident ( 😀 ) but if we can win our next two games, against Spurs tonight and away at Reading on Saturday that’s 20 points, and as Sam says a very good total for the first 10 games and on track for a top 4 finish.   We couldn’t have hoped for a better start and we can push on from there.

We also expect to fortify the squad in January for the run-in, so tonight’s game is certainly an important fixture for us.

Comments very welcome.

Hopefully we’ll get max points from next 4 games – Spurs, Portsmouth at home and Reading, Sunderland away – we’ve then got Liverpool, Arsenal at home and Blackburn away and I’ll be happy with 4 points from that lot though I expect we may only get two

If we get those four points, that is a great start. Just a shme we dropped points at Derby.
Certainly if we can carry on the way we have and put in better performances, there is no telling what we may do.
The possabilities are there, lets see what we can do.
3-1 to the toon tonight, Oba and Owen to score.

A goal each from Owen and Martins and a clean sheet tonight 2-0 the toon. With Cacapa fit next to Rozenthal and Faye in midfield i think we will be able to shut out there fowards ,i have a feeling this will be our best performance of the season so far.
    ……………..HOWAY THE LADS………..

it just shows that sam is a good manager, there was barely any negatives in there. and he has targets, i cant remember roeder or souness et al having targets, except top four, which is demoralising when the players didnt get anywhere near it. sam is the man
