Sam: We Need Clean Sheet and Win at Reading

Sam Allardyce was delighted with his team’s good form against Tottenham last night, especially in the second half.

This is the best start at home Newcastle have made in 10 seasons but it’s not the same story on the road.

Sam now wants to fix that and there’s no better place to start than at Reading on Saturday.

Claudio Cacapa – man of the match and dominant in Magpies defense against Spurs

After the game against Spurs Sam said:

“We’ve had our best home start in over ten years and we’ve now scored three times in three home games on the trot.”

“Our home record is getting us where we want to go – now we’ve got to make sure that next week at Reading we don’t waste all the hard work.”

“The home record has to continue into the away record and we have to make sure that we come away from Reading with something.”

So it’s going to be an interesting game at reading on Saturday where a win will give Newcastle 20 points from their first 10 games, not a bad start at all to the season. But we still need to be a lot stronger in defense. The defense played well again tonight but what happened for the goal? It came out of nothing which is never a good sign.

We’d go for a 1-0 win on Saturday since it’s now 6 games without a clean sheet and only 3 clean sheets in our first 11 games. That has to be the goal for Saturday – 3 points and a clean sheet – and we’ll be riding high.

Comments and opinions always welcome.

if robinson played for spurs tonight we wouldve won 5-1. i thought given played really well as he commanded his area well and caught some dangerous crosses. i think hes gaining confidence in what he has infront of him, esspecially with cacapa there. cacapa is definetly going to challenge the buy of the year award this season. beye and jose enrique played well and will only get better with more premierleague experience. but for me our best player on the night was nicky butt. absolutely brilliant in winning the ball back severall times, running everywhere.
nicky butt was stopped outside the ground after the game and asked to return jermaine jenas from his pocket, coz martin jol couldnt find him 🙂

good to see mike ashly enjoying himself…

Reading’s game is gonna be real tough for us cause i feel that they are gonna close themselves completely.
The only thing which i’m afraid off is their aggresive defence.Just hope no one will get injured there.

I must say Faye was excellent on the night. Most notably when Lennon scared the bejesus out of them with that run down the left – geez the lads’ fast – leaving Barton looking pedestrian – only for Faye to take him out. Loved that! Faye’s really making it hard for Roz – but that’s good. Roz will get his chance again and there’s always the ANC when Faye will be unavailable. Must say Emre surprised me with his pace and used it on a number of occasions to get the ball back when possession was surrendered.

Faye and especially Cacapa were great in the defence..Claudio even scored! Barton was a bit rusty, but that’s understandable after his long spell in the sidelines..I believe that Barton can be our engine in the midfield when he gets fit..he has the ability to control the flow of play (he knows when to go all attack and when to take it easy) and he can also score goals..

This is our best start in ten years, but look at the teams we have played against..no manu, chelsea, arsenal, pool…I’m really happy about the start, but also cautious because we have big difficulties in away matches. At St James Park we can win any team on our day, but something has to be done to our away form..Let’s start by winning at Reading!

Agree that Faye was outstanding winning every thing in the air, no one got past him, made some excellent tackles and important interceptions. Weren’t to excited about this signing but after watching him play last night, can’t wait to see him play again. Man of Match either Cacapa, Butt, Emre or Faye. Emre looked well good on the ball and got some nice passing flowing, at time held on to the ball a little too long, but brillant cross from the corner for Cacapa’s goal.

Kein – bacuas ethe second game of the season against Arsenal was called off because of their European commitments we don’t play a top 4 team until Liverpool on 24th November. – Thta’s 12 games so we knew if was fairly easy initially. But we don’t have to do anything against the top 4 sides if we can win most of the others. But we shouldn’t get carried away. The really poor result was the away defeat at Derby County – a win there would have seen us flying now.

Do you reckon we could get Berbatov to replace Shola in Jan? If spurs are still in the shit and we put in a good early bid he may be interested? He is such a good player, has the best touch in the premiership and does everything effortlessly…… Yer any goals videos?

Nice1 Marosh – cheers for that!

It was Emre’s corner for Cacapa’s goal – thought so. BBC have it down as Faye’s corner (wtf?) easy to see how they could get the two confused like.

A lot of people have said Beye should’ve been MOM, but as I thought last night he wasn’t goalside for Keane’s goal – and the little Irishman reacted quickest.

Apart from the Keane goal i think this was the best defensive display in years, they looked rock solid and Given even came for the high balls!! Owen and Martins scared the life out of thier defence Dawson was clueless .For me Nicky Butt was man of the match but it was a great all round team performance.Roll on Reading .

i think that faye and cacapa should BOTH have recieved the man of the match award.

i also think that cacapa should be in contention for signing of the season.

classy defending for the centre two. and we have rozehnal and taylor on the side watching, realizing they have to improve a bit, come on things are on the put. lets give it a push

it was a great win…but i was not impressed with beye and owen… so sam made 2 not so good signings: beye and smith… but he hit a jackpot with claudio, rozehnal, faye, enrique,…
i think we should sell owen and ameobi and get berbatov…the guy knows how to play football and he’s EPL type of player (strong, skillfull,…) owen looked lost at times…he’s just not fast and strong enough…he lost every fight for the ball…
so if we bring berbatov for shola and owen we’d have berbatov, martins, smith, viduka and carroll as strikers… i think berbatov would be a better partner to martins and smith… and we also know that partnership carroll-martins works…

Ed- We have a good warm-up period before we play against the toughest teams.. : – ) Should’ve played better at Derby..That match shows how bad we are away (sometimes).

JoshI – Berba would be GREAT! Tottenham won’t let him go unless we pay really crazy prices. He used to sleep in Alan Shearer’s Newcastle shirt so maybe there is a chance..Maybe we should go for Lyons Benzema..a starter for France and 11 goals in 11 matches in French liga. Played very well in the last France qualifying match! May be too expensive though…

i don’t think benzema would come to NUFC… he’s getting offers from real, arsenal,… but we can get berbatov! just exchange him for owen! problem solved!

nightfall your comment about Smith and Beye not being good signings is ridiculous, Beye has been good for us and he was good yesterday so what are you on about!? Smith has been playing midfield so we can’t judge him yet, seems like you haven’t even been watching matches

Isn’t it good to debate who was man of the match from 4 or 5 genuine options? Shows how things are coming on under BSA.

I notice some are still on Owen’s case and praising Oba’s efforts last night. Whilst I thought Oba played well and took his goal well a lot of the space he was getting was because the Spurs defence were trying to look after Owen so don’t lets rule Michael’s contributions out yet.

As for Berbatov, how can anyone who saw his carry on last night want him at Newcastle? Good player – when it suits. we’ve had way too many of them recently thanks.

ok…what did beye did yesterday…when he got the ball he sent it to enrique so we attacked only form the left the whole match… and smith…we bought him for ashley…we needed a creative midfielder or a right winger…and he’s neither…he just runs after the ball like a dog and than he covers his incapacity with aggersion…he’s just a bully… but he’d probably played better than owen yesterday…
as for berbatov…he wanted to leave tottenham in the summer…they have problems…we can’t possibly know what’s going on at the club…the fact is he’s a NUFC fan, he’s probably 2nd best striker in the league, he’s strong, skillfull and he understands the game…he just wants to play for his team… if i played for tottenham i’d suck against NUFC too 🙂
