Barton To Bring Goals To Newcastle

We expect Joey Barton to make his first start at St. James’ Park on Saturday against Portsmouth.

While it’s going to take a couple more games for Joey to get back to his best the Newcastle fans have already taken to Joey and big things are expected of him at Newcastle.

When Sam first came he said he wanted more goals from his midfield and Joey has always been a good goalscorer from the middle of the park.

Joey Barton – looking forward too his first start at St. James’ Park

The 25-year-old midfielder scored seven goals for Manchester City last season, and in all has 15 Premier League goals – a decent record.

Sam started both Emre and Barton last Saturday but his surprising team selection paired them with Geremi and Butt. All central midfielders so we wondered where the width would come from. We expect youngsters Milner and N’Zogbia to get the nod on the wings on Saturday. We have to attack Portsmouth at home and we’ll need an attacking side out there from the first whistle.

No doubt Joey will be excited about his starting home debut after receiving a fantastic ovation from the Newcastle faithful when he was brought on against Tottenham during the second of our last home game.

Joey told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Hopefully I will bring some goals to the team.” “I didn’t really have a target last season, but I would be disappointed if I didn’t get between eight and 10 goals a season.”

“But I don’t think that’s the main thing – the main thing is to win as a team.”

Barton is not just looking to top his tally of seven goals at Eastlands last season, but also to improve on what was really an outstanding time for him when he was easily Manchester City’s top performer. He has just one England cap but we’re sure he will be good enough to force himself back into the England squad. he’s certainly a lot better that Jermaine Jenas, for example.

Joey added:

“You always need a challenge in football.” When I signed for Newcastle the gaffer said he could get an extra 25 per cent out of me.”

Sam’s seems a big believer in Joey and if enthusiasm and drive have anything to do with it – Joey will be a top performer for Newcastle United this season. A good time to start will be on Saturday, because Portsmouth are certainly no push-overs and we’ll need to be so much better than we performed at Reading last week to take all 3 points.

looks like barton will be turning from a holding midfielder to a attacking one.. this really is interesting because if barton can attack, there will be room for either geremi/ butt to play and emre can come on as a sub and as a impact player..so our midfield for pompey shoul look like this
    milner butt /geremi barton zogbia

and emre to come on as sub.. and the defence is anyone’s guess..

Think Sam will go for Milner Geremi Barton N Zogbia.

I would like to see Emre start with Barton though, think this combo could work.!

emre with barton looks too attacking mate… because sam has analysed taht pompey can hurt on the break . so we hav to go for a attacker and a holding midfielder so that we dont leave too much gap and get hit on the counter… attacking through the flanks will be a better option…

I expect to see the following midfield to start off:

    Gerami-Butt-Emre-Zog

With Milner on for Zog (or Gerami depending on score) and Barton for Emre in the second half.

BSA could surprize us and start with Barton instead of Emre…..

Sam may not know his best team but apparently everyone else is pretty much in agreement. Jimmy Milner, Jo barton, Nicky Butt (Geremi if you believe in leadership over performance e.g. Mike Brearley) and Zog. Smith plays up front. Emre on in second half. Sorted.

Playing emre barton nzog and milner would be suicide seriously. We’re gonna be sth like tottenham’s midfield where there’s no real muscle in there. And dont forget both like to go forward so the gap between defence and midfield will be blatantly obvious. Defensive suicide imo.

Without Viduka out i am happy for both Martins and Owen to play. If both play like the last 2 matches we need to revert back to a 433.

This will force us to play the ball on the ground to the short strikers. Owen would play up top as he plays off the shoulder of the last defender. Martins in behind would have plenty of space to makes runs into the wide areas that are freed up with the narrow system.

The third striker would play a little deeper and be either Nzogbia or Emre, to provide the passing and creativity.

The midfield three then becomes easy to pick as it has to be balanced. Butt or Geremi as the anchor man with Barton and Smith as the box to box players.

This should allow for Beye and Enrique to get forward which both are capable of doing.

Does anybody remember how untouchable Chelsea were playing this system.

    Beye Cacapa Feye/Rozy Enrique
    Barton Butt or Geremi Smith
    Emre
    Martins
    Owen
What do you lads Think? Duff when he gets back will bring even beter balance to this system.

Sam should move Faye up into that holding position.
