Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce is confident Michael Owen is on course to make his return from injury way ahead of schedule.
Michael tore his thigh muscle while on international duty against Austria a couple of weeks ago, and it has threatened to keep him out of the side for up to six weeks.
Michael Owen – Newcastle need him fit and scoring goals
But Sam Allardyce is confident the injury is not as serious as first thought, and that Owen will be back before Christmas. That’s good because we have 7 games next month to get through, and those games are turning out to be crucial for the team.
Sam Allardyce told the Newcastle United official website today:
“We feel we have speeded up the process and it’s going to be a little quicker than we first thought so that’s really good news,” “We will only bring him back when he is 100 per cent and will not rush him.â€
“But we think it’s going to be a lot less than six weeks.”
That’s good news for Newcastle and we hope that Michael can aid in the Newcastle recovery, because we really need him to start scoring goals freely again. But it’s far too early to start talking about extending his contract at Newcastle, which we keep seeing in the news.
We don’t think Michael has yet shown he’s worth all that money to Newcastle. Yes, it’s mainly because of his injuries over the last 27 months, but that’s still the truth – he hasn’t yet shown he deserves a contract extension. Michael needs a long run in the side, and he has to score some goals and win us some game, before any talks of a contract extension.

Comment #1Mo won’t score goals unless the team create chances for him. He has never really been the kind of player to score goals from nothing, he needs good service and until Sam can get his tactics sorted Owen is basically a wasted man on the pitch. Our team doesn’t create anything and as a result it is impossible to score. The last goal we scored was a fluke by Milner, it’s worrying that with a squad like ours we cannot create chances. We have the strikers to put the ball in the net but we need to give them the opportunity to do so.

Comment #3no way bill f…with the style sam’s playing there’s no room for owen… with that style we need strikers who can score out of nothing (martins, berbatov, drogba, zlatan,…) we have martins and we could get berbatov…

Comment #4No, you have misunderstood my comment, I meant able to play games for us and not on the bl**dy treament table most of the time.
A fit Owen could (I’m not necessarily saying would that still remains to be seen) be a real assett.

Comment #5Michael Owen needs chances before Michael Owen can score goals.
Nightfall – the way we are playing at the moment, Owen, Martins and co. could be in a turkish brothel and still wouldn’t score!

Comment #7Yep – Martins was his usual frustrating self against Liverpool – collecting the ball far too deep and running with his head down until he gets tackled or makes the wrong pass. In terms of getting into position there is no better striker in the Prem than Owen, it’s just a shame the rest of our team hasn’t been up to his high standards. But of course in order to get into those positions he first has to get himself fit, and we all know that is the major problem with Mickey.

Comment #8Its a pity i would like to see Martins get a run of 3-4 games. MO take your time don’t rush back keep your self for the Jan window.

Comment #10Is Michael soddin’ Owen all Sam Allardyce thinks about??
He should be concentrating on his team (and tactics!!) for the weekend before the scouser comes into head!
I dread to think how Oba feels, coz he knows that he’s gonna be dropped again as soon as Owen is fit!

Comment #11WRONG: Owen could create goals for himself out of nothing when he was younger but not it´s like he has no confidence and thrives on the service from other players

Comment #14@ToonChicken – Martins was dropping deep to get the ball because no f*cker was passing or laying the ball off for him – we may as well sell both Martins and Owen and buy Kevin Davies to play alongside Viduka.
Weekend prediction – a defeat

Comment #16I agree….tactics NEED to be THE focus for SA. He has the players so results need to be seen. I giving SA time and don’t necessarily need to see wins, I just want to see tactical improvement. And come one fellas…Owen needs to go. He CAN’T stay fit. Period. And bringing on someone like Berbatov or a Davies would be awesome. We need IMPACT players and Owen simply isn’t an impact player anymore.

Comment #18Can’t help thinking that unless he gets in 4/5 full games at any level without injury he is going to be conciously and subconciously holding back in his efforts. I’ll be surprised (but very happy) if he ever gets back to be the MO we want.

Comment #19Well, the only thing a speedy MO-recovery mean is that we’ll go on playing crap football and be lucky to get some draws although without Oba since he will be dropped as soon as MO can be selected.

Comment #20All our strikers are bloody good enough to create something we dont need any more cos they have proved it, why are we talking about them doing it on their own or doubting them because they are injured. The real issues are **** defence and tactics too many injuries poor teamwork and a lack of confidence.
