Alan Smith has given a long interview to the Evening Chronicle, about the current plight of Newcastle United and what needs to be done by the players. We need some heroes tomorrow, and maybe Alan can be one of them.
It’s easy to see why Big Sam pursued Alan, when he was at Manchester United. He is a very positive boy and seems to be a model professional.
Ana Smith – can he be a hero tomorrow?
We now know Sam Allardyce tries to find a place for Alan Smith in the starting line-up – somewhere. But we’d like to see both Milner and N’Zogbia start on the wings tomorrow so we have some threat against Blackburn – which we’ll need if we are to win the game tomorrow. That has to be the goal at Blackburn for the Newcastle team, after the last four games of utter disappointment.
Alan told the Chronicle:
“I think from our point of view week-in, week-out nobody minds too much if they see commitment and passion†“Against Liverpool it was the manner of the defeat that upset people the most.â€
“It was the nature of the game.†“If it is a scrappy game people don’t mind.†“If you lose by the odd goal in five people don’t mind.†“But it was the manner of defeat.†“That’s what upset people.â€
“But we go out there to perform and the paying public have a right to their opinion.†“We have to be brave enough to go out again at St James’s Park or Ewood Park and put that right.
“It’s all down to us as a squad.†“Collectively, as players, we need to go out there and play with pride and show some passion.â€
Alan doesn’t want to predict what will happen at Blackburn tomorrow, but he does say the lads want to put things right, after the last two games at home, which were some of the worst performances from the team in many a season.
“I think most of the lads are just desperate to put things right on Saturday.†“Had there been an international break after Liverpool it would be a killer. It’s up to us to put it right.â€
“You need hard work in these situations. We’ve been through it all and watched it on the video.†“We’ve had to take some positives from it.†“Liverpool had one shot on goal that was on target in the first half.†“And you couldn’t do much about Steve Gerrard’s goal.â€
“We restricted them to one shot, but it was the second goal 45 seconds in that killed us and we lost all of our shape.â€
Smith took the man of the match award on Saturday and it was between him and Habib Beye, who we thought had a sterling game under very difficult circumstances. But Habib was so good in central defense, we’d like to see him start there at Blackburn tomorrow, hopefully partnering the impressive Abdoulaye Faye. When Alan was named man of the match last week, the news was received with boos, but that was only because the fans were in a foul mood, having witnessed 90 minutes of pure tripe, to use some Geordie sayings 😀
“Everybody is entitled to their opinion.†“But I know that I am doing my job no matter what position I play in.†“Every time I cross the white line I will give 100% and everybody knows that.â€
“I don’t think fans were having a go at players too much, the fans just want to do well so badly.†“We are the ones who can turn it round and can’t blame fans too much for being disappointed.â€
“The fans went there with expectations high looking for a big performance, and it didn’t happen. It’s not nice because you want your fans behind you, but we must put that right.â€
The talking will come to an end in about 24 hours from now, and then we’ll see how the players perform tomorrow. They have to know this is getting to be crunch time at the club and we need some heroes to step up tomorrow.
We hope Alan can be one of them. Comments welcome.
