Newcastle’s Best Team for Blackburn

9:40 am, Friday, November 30th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 26 Comments

As usual the team that Sam picks tomorrow will tell us if he has changed his ways at all. As we said earlier this week, we think it would be good if fewer players were played out of position.

We also hope that both Taylor and Faye will be back. These two solid players were badly missed last week against Liverpool.

Sam Allardyce – what team will the big man select for tomorrow?

Blackburn were taken to the cleaners by a good Aston Villa side on Wednesday evening 4-0, but we’re not sure if that is good for Newcastle or not. Certainly Mark Hughes will have them fully ready for the kick-off at 03:00 pm on Saturday.

We’d like to see Taylor and Faye start and one of the few good players for Newcastle in last week’s performance was Habib Beye, and we’d like to see him keep his place, alongside Abdoulaye Faye in the center of our defense.

Here’s the team we’d like to start:

Given (capt)
Taylor Beye Faye Enrique
Milner Butt Emre N’Zogbia
Viduka Martins
Subs: Harper, Barton, Rozehnal, Geremi, Smith

And if Sam has to find a starting place for Smith, we think he should play defensive midfield in place of Butt, but certainly not on one of the wings at the expense of Milner or N’Zogbia. What do you think the starting eleven should be tomorrow and why?

Let us know – we are certainly hoping that Sam picks a more balanced team tomorrow – and plays 4-4-2 and none of this 3-5-2 stuff. We’ll have our preview later today but until then, let’s think about team selection. We have to start a good and balanced team against Blackburn tomorrow and no more experiments.

Comments are very welcome.

Pretty similar, with a couple of differences

    Beye – Taylor – Faye – Enrique
    Milner – Butt – Barton/Emre – N’Zogbia
    Viduka – Martins

    Sam will probably pick:

    Beye – Taylor – Faye – Enrique
    Smith – Butt – Geremi/Barton – Emre
    Viduka – Martins/Smith

I pretty much agree with your choices, however I would play Rozehnal CB and Beye RB, makes more sense to me that way.

Milner and N’Zogbia are KEY, they both have to be on the pitch on their CORRECT wings.

Unfortunately Big Sam’s selection and formation will not come close to any of those you guys have suggested.

  • 15 roscoe // Nov 30, 2007 at 12:07 PM

the only reason beye played in CB is beacause we had noone else to play there. Yes he played well but hes a defender and thats what he does, now we have our regular CB’s fit and they must play esp if we talking about not playing people out of position.

  • 16 roscoe // Nov 30, 2007 at 12:08 PM

    end of story!

  • 17 Seanufc // Nov 30, 2007 at 12:12 PM

I think the players who struggled should not start!!! so this is the team

    Beye, Taylor, Faye, Enrique
    Milner, Barton, Emre, Nzogbia
    Smith, Martins

    Subs- Harper, Rozehnal, Geremi, Butt,Viduka

Barton your holding midfielder and let Emre roam just as he is good at. SEE HOW THEY PLAY TOGETHER!!!

  • 18 Brisbane Mag // Nov 30, 2007 at 12:22 PM

Going back to the Spurs game and possibly best display this season, I would go for:

    Beye, Faye, Cacapa/Roz, Enrique

    Smith, Butt, Emre, N’Zogbia

    Viduka, Martins

    Milner, Geremi, Rozenhal/Taylor, Harper, Barton

Second half subs; Milner for Zog, Barton for Emre, ANO

We need to play with “minimum” one winger. Butt protects the defence, Smith will win every 50-50 ball (We’re up against Blackburn remember) and Emre must run himself into the ground before Barton takes over……..

The fans choice of Milner and Zog is not wrong; they are both great prospects for the future, just toooo adventurous!

Player for player, we are better than Blackburn. As a team we’re just awful this season. So let’s get back to basics and really kick Blackburn when we are both down…….

  • 19 paul p // Nov 30, 2007 at 12:26 PM

roscoe, exactly yeah, beye is a makeshift centre half as we had no one else who could play there. so he had to play centre half, faye and roz at the back everytime for me, unless we sign woody back. then woody and faye.

  • 20 Brisbane Mag // Nov 30, 2007 at 12:45 PM

Woody was great, the best defender I’ve seen in a Black’n’white shirt since Bobby Moncur…..

  • 21 paul p // Nov 30, 2007 at 1:10 PM

he has got to leave boro. he is so much a better player than middlesboro’s team. they are making him look a bad player. sam. if you are after a central defender who oozes class….then look no further than 30 miles down the A19……

  • 22 Jay // Nov 30, 2007 at 2:04 PM

    Craig Albert McCracken Hudsperth

    Milner Batty Smith Ginola

    Shearer Millburn

    Now thats a team!!

  • 23 ToonKing // Nov 30, 2007 at 3:13 PM

Jay where is Moncur and Beardsley ?????

Anyways i repeat that we need to win the Midfield in this one, so :

    Beye——Faye—–Rozy (Cacapa if fit)—Enrique

    ———————- Smithy——————–

Subs: Harper, Taylor, Butt, Viduka, Martins.

Smithy can hold the ball up for the midfield and also can score headers, tap ins and even from distance as we (almost) saw at Looserpool.

Martins on at 65-70 to run down the old and tired Blackburn defense.

    SAM!!!!!!!! take notice ;)

  • 24 ToonUSA // Nov 30, 2007 at 3:19 PM

I forget what game it was but when Smith and Martins played up front they did very well. Both are strong with a mix of skill and grit.

    Baye —-Faye—–Roz——Enrique

  • 25 scott 9 // Nov 30, 2007 at 3:37 PM

Beye cacapa (if fit dont thik he is though SO taylor) Faye Enrique
    Milner Emre Barton N’Zogbia
    Martins Viduka

  • 26 Leo // Nov 30, 2007 at 5:41 PM

i agree with the team except putting taylor in the middle and beye on the right.

sam has made alot of mistakes playing people in the wrong position and he should keep it simple
