Blackburn vs Newcastle – Preview

It seems like every game Newcastle United play these days is important, and it’s no different at Ewood Park today. We’re coming off one of our worst displays ever at home last week against Liverpool, and Sam and his players have been working on the basics all this week.

We’re looking for a real solid performance from the lads and a good defensive display too.

A win today would be just great for all the Geordie fans scattered around the world, but a draw and a good display would be acceptable too. But we know Sam and his boys are going for the win.

Blackburn had a terrible game on Wednesday evening and were well beaten by a good Aston Villa side, so they will want to atone for that poor home display. We expect Mark to change his team from Wednesday evening. Steven Reid is pushing for a start, after coming on for a while against Villa. Mark may also switch his strikers around to give England Under-21s international Matt Derbyshire a start. That means he will have to omit either Benni McCarthy or Roque Santa Cruz. But Newcastle just have to up their game and try to get back on track in the league today.

We are hoping that both Steven Taylor and Abdoulaye Faye will be able to return to the back four and we’d also like to see Habib Beye keep his place for a back four that would look something like this.

Taylor Faye Beye Enrique.

But Sam may well want to have Rozehnal in there somewhere. David didn’t have a good game last week but very few of the Newcastle team did. We’d also like to see an orthodox central midfield and it’s fairly easy – one attacking midfielder and one defensive midfielder.

So it’s Emre or Barton paired with Geremi, Butt or Smith.

The front two really pick themselves in Viduka and Martins and we’d very much like to see Milner on the right wing and N’Zogbia on the left wing.

If we can play an orthodox team like that we could well be in business. But what we don’t want is some unorthodox team where Sam shifts people around so he can include, say Smith somewhere in the team. Smith can play upfront or in central midfield, but it unbalances the team when he’s on the wing, because he drifts inside too much.

Blackburn may also make one or two changes from their side on Wednesday night to freshen things up a bit.

We’d like to see the Newcastle team something, like this

Given
Taylor Beye Faye Enrique
Milner Geremi Emre N’Zogbia
Viduka Martins
Subs: Harper, Rozehnal, Barton, Smith, Butt

We expect the boys to turn up today and play well. We really need an inspired performance. A win would be fantastic and a draw would be acceptable, but another defeat is not even worth thinking about. We’ll hope for the win at 2-1, and if we can achieve that, we’ll be very very happy.

Comments very welcome.

i think the result will probably Blackburn 3-0 Newcastle becuase i think that blackburn are higher class then us and i think we need to wait for the Birmingham game at home for any realistic points cause i dont think the game against arsenal will bring any joy but hopefully the lads will be up for the game and will win but i can only see one outcome and that is of a blackburn win but come on the mags!!!

I dont like Beye at centre defence Why not play them in the preferred positions??? I would go for Beye Faye Roz orTaylor Enrique

In midfield I would take Butt & Emre in the centre with barton on for Emre on 65 mins

On the wingers naturally Milner & Zog

Up front Viduka & Martins and bring on smith for viduka on 65-70 mins

Why to we have to try & keep inventing the wheel and trying new things…. Just play the players in there positions………

But he will probably start Geremi & Smith as always. These decisions are gunna cost us and if we do I bet blackburn will slaugter us 3-0….

I loved the comments about Ed and his optimism. Isn’t that the life of a toon supporter :0)

Forget all the stories about the fans being boos boys, we are really more optimists than anything else. If that wasn’t the case we wouldn’t be expecting great things from the team. Hell optimism for a brighter future has always seen the fans stick by the team.

If anything that is what the manager needs to learn. Give us reason for optimism. That’s all we’ve ever needed, if the truth be known.

Short of that Happening, I guess Ed is going to have to step into the breach… :0)

depends on the tactics… if sam will keep playing players off their natural positions, we’ll lose (3-1)…

we got 2 games in a week: this game against Blackburn and the game against Arsenal. Does anyone think we can get any points from these two games? i think possibly one point and i think maybe a draw with Arsenal depending on the team Arsenal play cuz they have plenty of injuries but realistically, i can see no points being taken this week which will leave us 18 points out of a possible 45 points but if we get 2 wins it will be 24 points out of 45 which isnt bad but not fantastic either but the earlier of 18 points after 15 games just say, is pretty grim isn’t it?

toonfan1 – I guess it can look quite grim if you decide to look at it in that way, however I prefer to hope and pray the BS is working on the foundations of a great team and that the toon will be pushing the top four next season. If that were the case I wouldn’t mind losing today!

btw: doubt we’ll get owt from next two games – 2-0 today and prob about 0-7 against the gooners

Barton will get a right old slating from the crowd today and then walk out stating the pressures to much – I thought he was meant to be a hard man and he turns out to be a complete tw@t

I once hope that we start with a team in which all 11 players play at their natural poistion, for the rest I don’t care about who plyas if we just get a good result in a descent way. Not like at Sunderland (our last point) which felt out of the sky and which we didn’t deserve at all, but okay I was glad with the point (which says enough if you have to be glad with a point at Sunderland).

    For me it could be:
    Given
    Beye – Faye – Cacapa – Taylor
    Millner – Butt – Emre – N’Zogbia
    Martins – Smith

Subs: Garper – Enrique (our worst player ATM) – Barton (who starts to annoy me, I wasn’t optimistic with his transfer and he prooves me right) – Viduka (too lazy, not dangerous, …) – Rozehnal

Leave Geremi out of the squad cause he doesn’t deserve to be in the team ATM.
    Given

4-4-2 is all we need but with the best payers in those positions. No Hadrian I’m not gonna name them 🙂 thats BSA’s job LOL

Pass the ball around and in time you will create chances especially if you have 2 good wingers and a central midfielder who can make quality passes.

Count today how many times we can pass the ball more than 4-5 times in a row…… cos uptil now thats been a rare thing.

We don’t need to stifle the oposition we need to play foodball……….Sven’s done it at Man C even Keane’s managed it at Makem land too !!!!!!!!!

    Player to watch

    Viduka
With Owen still out Viduka and strike partner Martins need to start finding the net.

When did owen find the god damn net!

were not gonna win today ed , im not even contemplating it .
i just dont want to see anyone insult that black and white shirt and let themselves be walked over .
notice sam’s comments today about eventually playinf like arsenal/manu , but first he wants to get us keeping more clean sheets ….
here’s a thought , how about letting us do our thing and score goal’s and build on that ?
as it stands were not doing either , clean sheets or scoring .
