There’s been a lot of talk in the popular press about Alan Shearer being lined up for the Newcastle manager job, on a contingency basis, in case Newcastle slide even further into mediocrity.
But after Arsenal we have four games we can win. Two away from home and two at home. We’re sure Sam and the players will be concentrating on that. It also turns out that Mike Ashley and Sam had a good talk after the game on Saturday, and we’re sure Mike was pleased with the performance if not the result.
Sam Allardyce – had a good talk with owner Ashley after Saturday’s game
The reports circulating in the press that if Newcastle don’t beat Arsenal tomorrow night, then Big Sam will get the sack are just ludicrous. If managers got the sack because they don’t beat Arsenal this season, we’d have an awful lot of Premier managers out of a job.
Big Sam has again been talking to the Newcastle Journal today – this time he talks about Alan Shearer.
“If somebody wants to employ him (Shearer) down the line, if that’s after me or whatever, that’s life,†“I don’t particularly see that as a burden because if you lose your job somebody else is going to take it, whether it’s Alan Shearer or whoever.”
“If Alan decides to take my job, I hope it’ll be when I’ve decided to leave because I’ve made the club successful. If it’s the other way (Allardyce being sacked), you have to live with it.â€
We’re sure that Alan Shearer will be the manager to succeed Big Sam, whenever Big Sam leaves Newcastle, but we hope that’s after a few years and that he will be successful at the club. We’ve had far too many managers under Freddy Shepherd, and it didn’t help bringing any success to the club.
Sam also talks about not reading the popular press about his situation at the club. That’s good, because if he did it would probably send him crazy. Every day there’s something in the papers about Shearer replacing him, or that he will go if Newcastle don’t beat Arsenal tomorrow. It’s just total rubbish that we’re getting in the press right now. Sam continued:
“I don’t read it (the speculation about his job), so unless somebody rings me about it. I was taught at a young age by many managers greater than me that whatever you do, don’t read about what’s written about you if you want to be a success.”
“I saw Mike Ashley after the game on Saturday, shook hands and had a good chat with him. I hope that shows the strength of the relationship we’ve got.â€
Supporters support the team through thick and thin. And just because Newcastle are having a tough time of it doesn’t mean to say we have to turn against the manager, who’s only been in the job six months. We need to give the lads our full support tomorrow night, and we’re sure we’ll do just that, and then we’ll move on from that, whatever result we can get.
Even if we don’t get a result tomorrow, the four games coming up against Birmingham, Fulham, Derby County and Wigan Athletic are all winnable games for us.

Comment #1does any one remember the Godfather where a show of friendship was often the prelude to bumping off a character, don’t be to complacent over the handshake Sam. 😉

Comment #4Ed, at the start of the season I would have agreed that we could win against Birmingha, Fulham, Derby and Wigan, however, I dont have your optimism right now. I think we’ll get a result against Derby, Birmingham will be a draw, and the other two we’ll do well to get a draw. It’s so sad as after the Sunderland draw I slated FSA for saying he was happy with a point, however, the position now is that he’s right…a point against these lesser sides is a good result!
Cheers for that Sam!!

Comment #6I just think we need a manager with some history of winning things. Sam has won nothing and playing his Bolton style football which sets out to stifle teams DOES NOT WORK, it does not suit the build of Newcastle players who are generally not tall or well built like his Bolton side and the worry is that he is one dimensional and doesn’t have a plan B to change the style to accommodate our squad.
His comments in recent days to me are nothing short of desperate as well as arrogant…and he has not endeared himself to the Toon faithful since he arrived.

Comment #7Ode to The Gaffer Big Bad Sam
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain, ha ha ha
You c@@@, I’m not a qu@@r
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s fool
And each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
But dig, what I have to do
I’ll see it through with no devotion
Of that, take care and just
Be careful thought along the highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
There were times, I’m sure you knew
When there was nothing f@@@ing else to do
But through it all, when there was doubt
I shot it up, or kicked it outI fought the war
And did it my way
I’ve knocked out in bed last night
I’ve had my fill, my share of looting
And now, the tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think, I killed the Toon
And may I say, oh no, not their way
“But no, no, not me”
“I did it my way”
For what is a brat, what has he got
When he finds out that he cannot
Say the things he truly thinks
But only the words, not what he feels
The record shows, I’ve can’t win games
And did it my way

Comment #10Actually I think it was a Neil Sedaka song that Sinatra took a fancy too and said to him, Neil me and my patron (godfather again) want that song.
Of course Frank after all who wants a horses head in his bed.
And as I have repeatedly said regardless of whether you are pro-Sam or anti-Sam, unless there is bread on the table, then Mr Ashley will be contacting the local stables.
So well done SirJay there is a certain resonance there.

Comment #12valle I prefer sid’s version got more bite to it.
If Sam does go I think Shearer alone is a bad move this could potentially ruin a great bit of toon history.

Comment #14If you are a true toon supporter then you will support, not winge or twist. Its time to come together and show everyone once again that the toon fans ARE the best in the world. If us fans back the team like we did at blackburn, at every game. then the team will be lifted to achieve greater things. Come on every one, lets show the rest of the world how to truly support a team.

Comment #15looking at the upcoming fixtures I think Sam is safe until after the Stoke FS cup tie, realistically we won’t get anything against Arsenal. we need points from the games against Birmingham,Fulham,Derby and Wigan. we’re unlikely to get anything from Chelsea and Man City so victory in the cup is essential. I think defeat against Stoke and he won’t be in charge for the Man U game

Comment #16Tell you what Stoke are going to be really up for this game so our lads had better be in the right frame of mind as well. It’s no gimme.

Comment #17Anyone who thinks Sam is gunna get the boot anytime this season for any amount of losses is just plain retarded at this point. There’s a reason people like that don’t run football clubs.
