Sam Still Short Of Defenders

Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce will still be short of many defenders for tomorrow’s game against Birmingham City at St. James’ Park.

Abdoulaye Faye – still out injured with a calf injury

Abdoulaye Faye (calf), Stephen Carr (hamstring) and Claudio Cacapa (knee) are still recovering, and Michael Owen is not due back for at least another week as he continues his rehabilitation from a thigh problem.

Here’s our latest injury situation.

Player Injury Return Date

Carr Hamstring ?
Faye Calf ?
Owen Thigh 15Dec07
Babayaro Back ?
Cacapa Knee 5Dec07
Ramage Knee Apr08
Duff Ankle 8Dec07

After Wednesday’s great performance we’d expect an unchanged side for tomorrow, since all players seem OK after Saturday’s exertions.

Damien Duff’s return back to playing from his ankle injury was delayed last night when the Reserves’ game at Manchester United was canceled because of heavy rain.

Peter Ramage – back in light training – good for him

Also, Peter Ramage (knee) is back in light training, following his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee operation, which is a good sign for Peter. It would be good to see him return before the end of the season.

Comments welcome.

Ye id go for a similar side but would use Enrique at Left back, we spent 6 million on the guy! And move Zog to left mid and Milner to right then we can cause problems all over the pitch for Brum!Id probably start Emre over Barton also incase of any fatigue issues !

Rich, The Bull at LB, Zog in LM and Milner on RM is obviously too simple an option to use for Sam “The Master Tactician”….how on earth can everyone in Newcastle see that is the way to go, but Sam just wont let it happen!?!?

Our right wing was non-existent on Wed bar the occasional run in from Oba (who usually lost the ball there!) – Milner is a master on the RW and we’ve all seen what Zog can do on the left!

Hey ho, we might see it one day….and pigs might fly eh?

Milner and N’Zogbia looked good down the left against Arsenal and apparently they are going to put in a £8m bid for him. This saturday i would change things around a bit get Enrique back in, and basicaly agree with Rich.

GK – Given – In pretty good form, can’t replace atm.
RB – Beye – Has looked very good in last two games, good defensively and at going forward.
LB – Enrique – Needs games and against Brum at home is the perfect oppotunity. Hasn’t look bad in previous games.
CB- Talyor and Rozenhal- both had good games against Arsenal and simply no one to replace them atm.
RM – Milner – frees up LM for the Zog
LM- N’Zogbia – his natural position will give us width on both flanks.
CM – Emre – should of been involved at arsenal, need his creativity.
CM – Butt – has been mr consistant this season had a good game against arsenal too. Barton could start instead of Emre, but he still didn’t look quite there yet.
    FC – Martins – Goalscorer
FC- Smith – Battles till the end, captain too.

No Geremi, which allows Emre, Milner or Zog to take free kicks and corners – which they are better at.

Subs – Harper, Geremi, Barton, Viduka, Edgar.

    Beye Taylor Rozenhal Enrique
    Milner Butt Barton Zoggy
    Martins Smith

    Harper
    Geremi
    Emre
    Viduka
    Edgar

Play this team with Emre coming on if we need more creativity, saftey first with Barton and Butt!!

Come on the Toon, Wednesday will be wasted if we dont win!!

Steeley – BSA see Enrique in training and obviously doesn’t think he’s up to the job of playing LB at the moment.

He was poor against Liverpool and as a mate of mine said after that game ‘he doesn’t look like he could tackle a fish supper’. I have to agree.

think sam’s trying to protect enrique a bit , and is relying on the partnership of zoggy and milner down the left .
jose’s young , and probably shitting himself being new .

leo he basically wrecked his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. That takes a hell of a long time to recover from, not so long ago he’d have had to retire having done that kind of injury. In reality April is getting back pretty quick.

Aaron d; are you serious saying that Milner is a better free kick taker than Geremi. Oh my god, 1 thing I don’t understand is the fact that Milner always is overrated by most of the visitors of this site. Milner can’t tkae a kick with feeling, he just kicks as hard as he can and if it goes between the posts and across or over the wall than he has a chance, but how often does it happen??? Very rare tho’.

    Given

RB: Beye (is getting the superb player which I admired at l’OM)
CD: Taylor (played very good Wednesday)
CD: Rozehnal (defensively okay, but needs to work a lot on holding the ball in our team, but he needs to play cause no Cacapa or Faye)
LB: N’Zogbia (good at LB and Enrique IMO can become another overrated and overpayed Spanish dude)

RW: Geremi (played a very good game on Wednesday and is getting is form on a good level, because in the beginning he was the worst player out there).
CDM: Butt (sometimes is a bit too wild in his tackles which costs him stupid yellow cards, but we need a working defending midfielder).
CAM: Emre (he needs to play, he was always the player who got punished for a whole team that played beneath their level).
LM: Milner (played okay, but needs to learn how to kick a good cross and never kick a free kcik again)

CF: Martins (plays too much to the right to be dangerous, played perfect at Blackburn, Wednesday a bit too often that he lost possession; I was happy if I saw him celebrate the Taylor goal)
CF: Smith (is only position to play is forward and I start to like him, cause he works very hard and causes danger).

    Harper – Enrique – Viduka – Barton – Edgar

Toony – I don’t know if you really mean that, but Woodgate will always suffer with injuries. He has no luck in it and therefor (how good he also was in his NUFC period) we need to search for other options.

    Does anybody know how it is with our possible targets for January;
    – Arschavin?
    – Crouch?
    – Edmilson?
    – Cardozo?
    – Carvalho (from Moscow)

Arshavin is likely, edmilson is also likely, bt i wouldnt like to think any of the others are likely (except carvalho, but that is very unlikely)

i agree tom toon i think arshevin and edmilson carvalhio i would love but cant see it happening cardoza and crouch no longer need as we have smith on form back to his best so we have him and viduka as target men even though crouch would be good i dont think theres room for him

You want a free kick taker theres only one to talk about, Junhino. He does a bit more than that though.

Theres an Italian name of Foggia Iv’e seen quite a bit of who looks good and has a Del piero look
    about him. Could be available.

Wonder if Sam or any of his minions actually read our suggestions. 🙂

Err yes Tom-Toon it’s the Italian League, you know the one with Inter Milan, Juventus, Milan, and a host of other top class sides. You must have heard of them. They also have some quite good players to numerous to mention.

I would have thought any one good in that league would have to be decent. You must be looking at a different player because the one I saw was non of the negatives you have mentioned and I have seen him in several games.

Have another look at him in a full game not just bits from You-tube.

Even though I agree we spent 6 on Enrique and now have what should be our attacking midfielder covering that position, I feel Enrique needs to up the tempo a bit. He looked lethargic against Liverpool – which was disappointing as he looked so sharp in some (most) games (i.e has the potential to make that position his). Maybe Sam’s monitoring that and leaving Zog there for the time being until Enrique’s fully match fit.
Now Sam had no problems pushing Barton back in the side – but I guess his rational might be that Barton as EPL experience already and should suck it up and get back to his best through match time. I guess when Owen’s fit again – he’ll also be rushed back into the side. I was glad that, at least he’s managing Viduka better now – by not letting him start or giving him time later in the game.
We’re already feeling the void left by Faye and he hasn’t even left for ANC duty yet …. – now that makes me nervous.
