Newcastle Injury Situation Much Improved

The Newcastle manager was in bed with the flu bug yesterday, when Alan Oliver of the Evening Chronicle talked to him.

Sam Allardyce celebrating Beye’s winner on Saturday

Sam was not surprisingly very upbeat yesterday, because of Newcastle’s classic last minute win against Birmingham.

Sam said:

“After the way we came back on Saturday I feel great.” “Now we are looking for more good news by getting some players back for Saturday’s game with Fulham at Craven Cottage.” “I have arranged a behind-closed doors game this week when we are hoping that the likes of Damien Duff, Abdoulaye Faye, Claudio Cacapa and Shola Ameobi will all play.”

“Michael Owen will probably not play in it but we are expecting him back with the rest of the first-team squad nearer the end of the week.” And while Saturday will probably come too early for him he should certainly be back for the game with Derby County at St James’s Park a week on Sunday.”

That’s very good news from Sam on the injury front, because we do have a lot of games coming up, and we need to pick up some points to move up the league.

Michael Owen is another player who seems terribly injury prone, and he has started just 21 games for Newcastle since he joined the club in August of 2005. Oba Martins will soon be away on African Cup of Nations duty early next month, and we will need Michael to be ready to participate in games during the time Oba will be away on International duty.

We are not sure it’s worth extending Michael’s contract, until he proves at Newcastle he is worth the enormous wages we are paying him.

Sam added:

“We created and missed a lot of chances against Blackburn Rovers last weekend and again against Birmingham City on Saturday.”

“If we had taken some of these chances we could have had a comfortable 3-1 victory on Saturday instead of relying on Habib Beye’s last-minute winner.”

That’s one thing Sam has already talked about, that we must take our chances when they present themselves. Certainly when Michael gets back, he should be able to help in that department. But with just over 20 games to play this season, Michael has a lot of work to do for Newcastle, and we certainly hope he can start a good scoring run at the club.

But the news from Sam on the injury front is encouraging indeed this morning.

Comments very welcome.

I think Newcastle would be better off selling Owen and with that bit of cash buy a striker who isn’t sooo injury prone!! Berbatov would be brilliant but i doubt Spurs would want to offload him. Darren Bent would be good and hell even Yakubu would be better. Yakubu could even link up really well with Oba as they are good friends in the Nigeria Squad and know each- others play. Sell Owen lets get Yakubu…less injuries more goals!!!!!!

JP from The Rock of Gibraltar, no way should we sell Owen, we will never get a finisher like him and even if we do it will cost a fortune.

oh and Darren Bent ….blahhh, Yakubu ??? blahhh those guys will never score enough goals.

Keep Owen, he is a good striker just needs to get fully fit, and then we will see the best of him!!

Oba is class but still needs work on his finishing, he will learn from one of the best in Owen!!

What we need is an attacking midfield player who will open defences up with through balls!! someone in the mould of Elano/Deco would be nice! The defence isnt as bad as most people say, they have had a few nervy moments but they are still lerning the English game! Beye I think is a class right back, and Enrique looks a great prospect! Taylor will be superb in years to come! Roz and Cacapa are good defenders but just need more time! b4 the Pompey game Cacapa had been totally solid, 1 game later when he wasnt fully fit raised evryones eyebrows but give the lad some time!!

Its just our midfield we seem to be lacking something which I am sure will be dealt with in January!!!

we need rafael van der vaart, attacking midfielder who plays for Hamburg… he would e a great addition to the squad, he can score and create chances for his team.

I think that is the player we need, and deffinatly keep owen

The trouble with Van Der vaart is as good a player he is, he is also seriously injury prone!! but a good shout and if Sam could keep him fit then we could have a truly great player!!

i remember back to when he first signed, i was so happy, and the game where he scored 2 good goals set up by charlie nzogbia, i was full of hope, then it all went pear shape. i think we should sell him quick fast.

I think we should keep him. He scored almost always he was in! But if he keeps missing than what else can we do?
I agree with ToonKing, I doubt we can afford finisher like Owen!

Sell Owen. Tired of him. Don’t think Yakubu is coming, but someone who we know will perform and not get easy injured. Also get rid of Ameobi!

    Howay the lads!

we’re not signing any top class strikers this january, chris mort has basically come out and said that indirectly. the best we can hope for in terms of headline-catching captures would be arshavin; other than that we’re looking at a few young prospects if anything at all. i’ve had a seat on the sell mickey bandwagon for as long as anyone, but come the african cup, we desperately need him until the end of the season. i’m frankly sick of him seemingly always ready to return “ahead of schedule”, a lot of good that’s done us in the past. sam needs not hurry him back, oba’s growing in confidence, and owen’s not a priority until january. do some christmas shopping, mickey, spend time with the kids, we’ll call you…

This Owen Saga sounds like the Dyer saga with everyone clinging on to ‘potential’ . These guys are great when they are fully fit but will they ever be fit enough to play week in and week out?….I ask you all if you owened a stock that is losing its value how long do you keep it around??

At this point I don’t think selling the lil lad will bring any money in so I say keep him around and don’t re-new his contract until he proves his worth.

anyone who thinks we should sign yakubu should go off more than this weeks match of the day..

we should keep owen, coz u know if we sell him he’s just gonna come good for whoever signs him, it always happens to us.

i’ve always liked the lad, rated his ability, and he will come good sooner or later. i dont think hes been worth the money really, but while he’s here why not make the most of a bad situation with his fitness. take it easy n he’ll hit form sooner rather than later. if he comes back at derby n gets a couple goals (which he deffinatly could do if we threaten the goal like we have been) we’l love him for a week. lets not get hastey!!

If Owen could, somehow, defend himself form injuring and collect few matches he would cathc his form. I don’t think selling him is a good move. We have problems in scoring so we need top scorer as him with us. I think Martins and Viduka are also ok but Mikey is a top class. Rarely good scorer.

Yeah i wondered that myself Bill, i think they probably did but he didn’t want to move, yet.

and Tom_Tom Palacio is actually a target man, similar to Smithy, he can hold the ball up great.

if Gomez is injured how about we get that Serbian kid at Valencia, he’s name escapes me but he’s a freaking giant.

Nikola Zigic is’t a kid. 28 yrs old! Also he has been njuried for a while and don’t perform well. Actually he hasn’t play a lot since he came into Valencia.
But he is good player. But I doubt Valencia will let him. They just sign him!
