Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has been singing the praises of our Czech Republic 6’ 3†defender David Rozehnal and our Senegal defender Habib Beye today.
David Rozehnal – played solidly for Newcastle this season
This is good as it will give David the confidence he needs after being responsible for our first goal against Birmingham on Saturday. Hate to mention that but Big Sam has been delighted generally with how the former PSG defender has played in his very first season in English football.
Sam said today:
“There have been times this season when we have been down to one center-back, and because of a flawed transfer system we have been unable to bring players in to resolve the problems,”“So David has had to carry a lot of weight on his shoulders without having time to settle in the Premier League.”
“He is a newly-arrived foreigner here, but he is our must-used player.†“In all the circumstances, David has done a fantastic job, and over and above that Habib Beye has come in and been a real bonus – Habib has shown us what he used to do every week at Marseille.”
We mentioned yesterday that Sam has been pleased with the form of both Beye and Rozehnal, and it definitively looks like our defenders are starting to get used to the significant physical rigors of the Premier League. That has to auger well for us throughout the rest of the season.
Certainly the players Sam has brought in are all good individually, and appear to be excellent professionals in their attitude. The problem has been in melding them together into a cohesive unit. With signs of that cohesion now starting to show through, we trust we can do better in the second half of the season and move up the league.
And we hope to do just that – starting at Fulham on Saturday. 😀
Comments always very welcome.
