Allardyce Delighted With Beye, Rozehnal Contributions

Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has been singing the praises of our Czech Republic 6’ 3” defender David Rozehnal and our Senegal defender Habib Beye today.

David Rozehnal – played solidly for Newcastle this season

This is good as it will give David the confidence he needs after being responsible for our first goal against Birmingham on Saturday. Hate to mention that but Big Sam has been delighted generally with how the former PSG defender has played in his very first season in English football.

Sam said today:

“There have been times this season when we have been down to one center-back, and because of a flawed transfer system we have been unable to bring players in to resolve the problems,”“So David has had to carry a lot of weight on his shoulders without having time to settle in the Premier League.”

“He is a newly-arrived foreigner here, but he is our must-used player.” “In all the circumstances, David has done a fantastic job, and over and above that Habib Beye has come in and been a real bonus – Habib has shown us what he used to do every week at Marseille.”

We mentioned yesterday that Sam has been pleased with the form of both Beye and Rozehnal, and it definitively looks like our defenders are starting to get used to the significant physical rigors of the Premier League. That has to auger well for us throughout the rest of the season.

Certainly the players Sam has brought in are all good individually, and appear to be excellent professionals in their attitude. The problem has been in melding them together into a cohesive unit. With signs of that cohesion now starting to show through, we trust we can do better in the second half of the season and move up the league.

And we hope to do just that – starting at Fulham on Saturday. 😀

Comments always very welcome.

I havent been impressed with Rozenhal so far, hes too flat footed and has already made 2-3 mistakes but Beye i’ve been hugely impressed with, probably our best signing so far 🙂

Rozenhal for me was brilliant in his first couple of games and was delighted at his aquisition, but since then he has suffered a bad drop in form, however i will give him the benefit of doubt and say he will come good again and soon.
Beye i have been well impressed. It is nice to have an attacking defender like him, he mostly tackles well and certainly his reading of the game is superior to former players in his position. With more time i think he will prove an absolute gem.

yep, he had a great start then had a couple bad games, but he has been partnered with several players so it will have caused confusion, once there is some consistency he will come good once more.

I reckon Marselleise (whatever the spelling is)are probably rueing the loss of Beye. He has been our best signing so far.

I know Rozehnal of Club Brugge (I’m from Belgium) and Paris Saint Germain. In both clubs he had some integrateproblems. But after a few weeks, he was one of the best defenders of the league. Give him a little bit time and you will see he’s a GREAT FOOTBALLER !!! Rozehnal forever.

Bill F – I agree; he was the transfer I really wanted to happen and then it was looking that it didn’t work at all and the last second of the transfer period was vital because we signed our 2 best (new) players; Beye and Faye (where would we be if those 2 were not here?).

Beye is by miles the best new player and I know that he will be better and better, once the team has gelled completely. IMO he should be our new captain, because he is more of a leader than Geremi.

Beye is superb, easily our best defender at the min. As alot of you have alreary said Roz had a really impressive start, both defensively and attacking but he seems to have taken a massive dip in form, but time and games with 1 partner will allow him to regain that form
