Newcastle Sign Swindon Town’s Ben Tozer

We are getting reports and there are strong rumors in Swindon tonight, that their 17 year-old promising left back, Ben Tozer has been signed by Newcastle United.

Ben Tozer – sold to Newcastle United?

We reported on Ben Tozer a couple of days ago and he is a very promising English defender, who has been linked with a host of Premier League sides. Those sides include Everton, where he had a trial 2 weeks ago. Also Portsmouth are interested and more recently, Newcastle United have allegedly been interested in the 17 year-old.

The transfer of Tozer has not been confirmed by anybody yet, least of all Newcastle United, but we wanted to report these rumors, because they are circulating in Swindon tonight.

Ben Tozer is valued at around £1M, and would be part of Chris Mort’s new strategy of identifying young players early on, and then bringing them to the club to complete their football development. This mimics the way Arsenal have built their squad of excellent players over the last 10 years. Tozer did not play today in Swindon Town’s 3-0 loss to Brighton today despite being available.

Again, this has not been confirmed, but there are strong rumors circulating around Swidon tonight that Newcastle United have indeed singed Tozer. We’ll keep tabs on the situation and bring you any more news, as soon as anything new becomes available.

Comments welcome.

I want to see Enrique play more before we go off signing new left backs.

But then again, as you say Ed, this is what Arsenal do so well.
Mind you, that only asks another question, if this young lad is ‘that’ good, why haven’t Arsenal snapped him up before us?

Well, I am sure this is a good thing though.
We could also do with the likes of Giles Barnes, if we are signing young, English players.

We looked desperately short of creativity today.

Apparently a very good player for his age, lets hope if the rumours are true he can go from strength to strength.
With the likes of Edgar, Troisi, LuaLua and Carroll comming through the future could be looking nice for Newcastle. If we are going to commit to sign up and comming youngsters lets hope the club spend as much time and money bringing them on as Arsenal has done, its one thing finding the young talent and signing them but its another bringing them up to Premier League standard.

The transfer will go through during the 1st jan, you can still sign players before then but you would have to wait till the 1st Jan before they are available.

At 17 this will be one for the future. would be surprised if you see him in the 1st team any time soon but he is a future talent to go in our reserves like arsenal have.

Good point Leo! Too many rumours, bad one I should say from the media lately that has been eaten alive.

They write good things about Newcastle and the fans show up and cheers the lads, they write bad things, then suddenly Big Sam is the worst manager in the world.

If Ben Tozer comes to Newcastle, it won’t be until after an announcement on Monday at Swindon. Our current shareholders have done everything they can to slowly liquidate our club. There is a chance that the fan’s nightmare will come to a head on Monday, with a new investor (Andrew Fitton) finally able to oust these guys or turn his back on a bunch of incompetent and greedy idiots. If he turns his back, Ben Tozer is your player, the shareholders keep the money and we lose our club. If he is installed as Chairman on Monday with the takeover complete, the player is still yours, but we get to see football at Swindon again.

It’s a cracking signing. Word is that Big Sam will convert him to a right back, play him left attack, bring him on for Milner, start him in central midfield and drop him for two months.

    Promising news!

Investment in talented young players – the way forward.

Taylor and Beye are all we have in the way of a defense…………although Faye had a great game against Stoke. Rozenhal Enrique both need replaced. Enrique can’t seem to keep the ball on the ground and work it through midfield…………Owen was screaming at him to put it to his feet against stoke…….Rozenhal is no better

    Wes Brown (short-term) …..transfer window…….fingers crossed!
