Newcastle United are said to be interested in Romanian Under-21 international defender Stefan Mardare, according to today’s Sunday Sun. Stefan turned just 20 years old a couple of weeks ago.

Stefan Mardare - 20 year-old outstanding Romanian prospect
Sources close to Mardare’s club, FC Vaslui, claim that Newcastle United have already made a bid of around £1M ahead of the January transfer window, which opens in a short 15 days time. Vaslui have already turned down bids of around £700K for Mardare from both Rapid Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest in the summer, but Newcastle United’s bid could well be acceptable to the Romanian club.
Newcastle’s new Eastern European scout, Vic Halom, has also been also been watching Mardare’s club-mate, Serbian midfielder Marko Ljubinkovic, who we reported on earlier this week.
Mardare has only just turned 20 years old, but he has already attracted Everton as well as Newcastle from the English Premier League. This is only Mardare’s second season in the Romanian top league.
Years Club App Goals
2005-2006 FCM Bacău 05 0
2006- F.C. Vaslui 35 0
2007 Romania U21 08 0
Åžtefan Adrian Mardare was born in December 3, 1987 in Bacău, Romania. Stefan is a central defender playing for F.C. Vaslui, and is part of the Romanian U21 team. There are different reports on Stefan’s height, but the most common seems to be around 185cm (6′). He graduated from the FCM Bacău youth academy, and made his debut against Rapid BucureÅŸti at just 18 years old. After Bacau were relegated, he transferred to F.C. Vaslui last year, where he has become a first team regular, and is now considered to be one of Romania’s top prospects.
Sounds like this bot would be a good acquisition for the club and we certainly seem to be bringing in some top youngsters to the club in January. That will be great for out future, and we very much like that strategy that Chris Mort has put in place.
Comments welcome.

Old enough to go straight into the first team, why havent our ‘scouts’ picked up on bogdan stancu, the new mutu apparently ive seen him play a bit a quick nippy striker and they only want 2 mil for him.
4 scott 9 // Dec 16, 2007 at 4:28 PM
i realy hope mort big sam and the scouts have done there research on these youngsters.

Ed, where does ti say Kadar is a left back?
Another good romanian talent is Bicfalvi, unlikely to be linked or get hm, he just moved.

I REALLY HOPE WE GO IN FOR ARSENALS DIARRA WHEN WE WANTED HIM IN THE SUMMER I WAS REALLY DIAPOINTED WE DIDNT FOLLOW UP OUR INTEREST I THINK HE BE A GREAT SIGNING FOR DMF HIM AND BARTON IN THE MIDDLE FANTASTIC HES ONLY 20 AND HES ALREADY IN THE FRENCH NATIONAL TEAM AND HE DOESNT GET FIRST TEAM FOOTY.
SAM PLEASE GO GET HIM HES BETTER THAN GEREMI AND BUTT PASSING WISE
8 Howie // Dec 16, 2007 at 4:51 PM
agree scott 9 diarra can play rb also. i would say if he did leave he will go to a champions league team but you never know.
9 scott 9 // Dec 16, 2007 at 4:54 PM
maybe but if he wants to stay in the epl then manu or liverpool wont want him he might go abroad though
10 scott 9 // Dec 16, 2007 at 4:56 PM
i think we need a young right back aswell as all these young left backs and centre back were signing get rid of carr and get a young right back to back up beye also i think we should sign arshevin in january
11 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 4:56 PM
Howie, he left Chelsea cos he hate playing rb but he was good there. He wont go to any team he cant play cm in.
12 Rob Kirton // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:14 PM
Aaaargh ! We’ve got Vic Halom scouting for us. That shouldn’t be allowed !!
This sounds like a Mackem conspiracy. First Allardyce and now Halom.
13 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:14 PM
Esparza is a good young rb
14 Dragoner // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:33 PM
diarra aint leaving arsenal, quit with the dreaming and lets look at players who would actually come to us
15 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:41 PM
because wenger prefers diaby to diarra. I personally dont want either.
16 Dragoner // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:45 PM
“because wenger prefers diaby to diarra.”
And you know this because??? dont start saying anything about “he plays him more blah blah blah” because EVERYONE knows Wenger never rushes people into first team football.
If anything you could say he prefers diarra as Diaby has been there a while now yet hardly ever is first team
17 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:47 PM
The fact is that if Diaby hadnt been injured recently and at the beginning of his career at arsenal and more recently, diarra would be in the first 11 it wold have been diaby if anything.
As i said i dont like either.

Excuse me…Does anyone here know the similarity between tribal and the Sun? Both are buggers!
19 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 5:56 PM
diarra wouldnt*
20 Whitey // Dec 16, 2007 at 6:14 PM
Skysports news is running a story saying that he wants to leave the gunners and it also includes qoutes. His reasoning is that he dosn’t get played. I think it would be possible to get him to newcastle.
21 iain // Dec 16, 2007 at 6:14 PM
diarras leaving becuase hes said so himself this week.
he wants to play cm week in week out to cement his place as makeleles replacement for france.
22 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 6:39 PM
Young RB could be Gillet, already full international, ready for first team maybe not as young as we would like at 22, we need Obafan to comment on this as he is from Belgium.
23 Cockney Magpie // Dec 16, 2007 at 7:15 PM
just thinking id really like to see Faye played in the defensive midfield role when he is back,
Given
Beye
Cacapa
Taylor
Enrique
Faye
Milner
Barton(c)
N’Zog
Martins
Viduka/Smith
24 Cockney Magpie // Dec 16, 2007 at 7:15 PM
that way milner, nzog, barton could push forward as much as they want
25 Cockney Magpie // Dec 16, 2007 at 7:16 PM
anybody agree?
26 Leo // Dec 16, 2007 at 7:33 PM
anyone know if we actually signed that baheng guy? and any news on the altidore rumour, or was it a red herring?
27 Howie // Dec 16, 2007 at 7:35 PM
i think the only way sam will play milner and zog both further forward would be if he played them in a front three along with smith/viduka. he might do it during african cup if owen is injured. he likes 4-3-3 we have just gotta get used to that. IMO we need rb,lb and rm in this transfer window coming up
28 Howie // Dec 16, 2007 at 7:36 PM
baheng and tozer, yes. any others not yet
29 Bill f // Dec 16, 2007 at 8:29 PM
Anybody remember that song by Bobby Daring
Speculation thats the name of the game
And with each blog commentation its played the same.
Will we get a full back called dickuhara from Timbucktoo
Or a new forward from Kalamazoo
Oh Speculation thats the name of the game.
Cant remember the rest of the words but it’s been around for a very long time seems to be seasonal.

“The fact is that if Diaby hadnt been injured recently and at the beginning of his career at arsenal and more recently, diarra would be in the first 11 it wold have been diaby if anything”
stop stating opinion like its fact, its just embarrassing. How do YOU know it wasn’t Wengers plan from the beginning to have Diaby focus more on his LW or SS role?
31 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 8:46 PM
just like to add that tamas kadar actually looks like a pigeon
32 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 8:48 PM
Because Diaby is a bloody central midfielder, exactly the same position as diarra and he is probbly better than diarra, its point you ever relying as ive already said i dont like either.

Is tha not an opinion that you state as a fact and opposed to all factual knowledge it is completely dumfound, hypocrite.
34 Dragoner // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:22 PM
No, this is what i call an opinion stated as a fact
“The fact is that if Diaby hadnt been injured recently and at the beginning of his career at arsenal and more recently, diarra would be in the first 11 it wold have been diaby if anythingâ€
Key part being, “the fact”….THE FACT! f****n idiot! starting to p**s me off now, mouthy little internet geek.
Im sorry i didn’t know about what Diarra had said on Skysports mate, maybe it’s because i am not like you and i dont constantly search internet looking for football news, i actually do other stuff
By the way Diarra ISN’T the exact same position as Diaby as Diaby is naturally a CM not a DM, Arsene Wenger likened him to Vieira and simply altered his game in order to create a similar player.
35 Tez // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:31 PM
In my opinion we need 2 players in every position.
GK – 1.Given 2.Harper – (Stong and have a few young options)
LB – 1.Enrique 2.Tozer? (Not sure but N’zogbia can help cover)
CB&CB – In Rosenhal, Cacapa, Taylor and Faye (Not bad if we can get them to gel together) Wes Brown could be a good addition, 28yrs old good age for a centre back.
RB – 1.Beye 2.Carr (I do like Beye but we really need someone else to fight for position with him, carr is simply not good enough. Maybe a young promising player)
DM – 1.Geremi 2.Butt (Not bad but would like a future replacement for Butt, young player that can be slowly brought into the team over next season or 2)
AM – 1.Barton 2.Emre (I think once we start playing better and play with wingers it will give the AM more time and options. Barton can them produce the form he had a city)
LM – 1.N’Zogbia 2.Duff (Strong, with a fit duff and N’Zogbia we have this area covered)
RM – 1. Milner 2. ????? (I really think we need a new right winger to cover milner, I think we should have kept Solano. He was a legend and we have missed his creativity from the wing)
Fwd – Martins Owen Smith Viduka (Maybe get in an other poacher/ goal scorer to cover injuries and things like african nations cup)
A new right back, dm and striker.
Any one agree??
36 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:32 PM
the site is lagging lately.
37 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:38 PM
Mate, this site is banter and the words used are no meant to be literal, people say ‘the fact’ when they want to get something across.
Diaby and Diarra are more or less the same player, both DM/Deep Lying Playmakers + Id barely call the fact that i know he wants to leave searching the net, its been around for a while know and skysports is also one of the most popular sports sites on earth, its not like i went out of ym way to find that, when i wake up in the morning i go on skysports then get on with my day, whether it be work, going out, doing nothing, coming on here or whatever.
38 JoshI // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:39 PM
AHHHH hu f*ucking cares where or diaby or diarra play?? the likelyhood is that he won’t come. So lets move on yeh!
39 JoshI // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:41 PM
although Tom_toon is right with THE FACT :p that the words “the fact is” is not literal and is used to put across an opinion or point.
40 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:42 PM
‘By the way Diarra ISN’T the exact same position as Diaby as Diaby is naturally a CM not a DM, Arsene Wenger likened him to Vieira and simply altered his game in order to create a similar player.’ – Hypocrite, this is banter but if this comment isnt stating opinion as a fact i dont know what is. Do you personally kno Diarra or Diaby, i think not and ISN’T in block capitals could back up my arguement more.
41 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:43 PM
One more rant, Dragoner why did you have to carry on when i said i didnt really care about diaby and diarra, bloody hell.
42 Bosck // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:44 PM
dragoner a dm is a cm.
theres no need to be so abusive.
and whilst it may not be fact, it does seem so far that wenger prefers diaby. and reading skysports is hardly trawling the web. i’m sure most of us read it
43 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:45 PM
Tez – I wouldnt personally class barton as a attacking midfielder nor would i class nicky butt or geremi as footballers at all ;p Agree we need a right winger but remember Arshavin if he comes can play alot of different positions.
44 JoshI // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:46 PM
In steps uncle Bosck with wise words.
45 Dragoner // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:47 PM
Tom Toon you constantly name low profile players, is it because you spend most of your time watching them on youtube? or is it because you play too much football manager? either way its annoying, and if your trying to impress people by showing you have such extensive scouting knowledge give up as it is not working
46 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:51 PM
Here we go, again:
1. I have a life
2. I’ve already said many times that i have never had football manager.
3. Its not annoying in my opinion and generally the majority dont find it to annoying as is a bit of banter and gives em something to talk about.
4. Obviously if i hear about a player coming to the toon id have a look at them, but i have better things to do.
5. Most low profile players arent on youtube.
You really need to think about what your saying /writing before you say/write it.
Want to give it a rest yet?
47 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 9:57 PM
dududu – just seeing if there are anymore comments.
48 Dragoner // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:02 PM
“dragoner a dm is a cm.” no i dont class them as the same
49 JoshI // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:19 PM
well yeh they are, a dm plays in the centre of the park, as does a cm hence the name centre midfielder.
50 valle // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:20 PM
One thing is having an argument wether this or that player is good or bad or wether we like the current tacs… but this is starting to smell like animosity
51 Leo // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:21 PM
a dm is a cm. my opinion, as you wouldnt find a defencive midfielder out on the wings would you?
although we do have geremi (jokes)
52 Bill f // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:34 PM

54 Frankie Boy // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:41 PM
A dm out on the wings …..you might when he is playing in front of our back four on ocasions.
dm and cm both in the middle, similar but entirely different ie Butt/Emre
Does Geremi actually qualify as either.
55 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 10:43 PM
you know me, dont like to cause a rift
but a cm and dm are slightly different:
DM – Tend to rely on tackling
CM – Driving runs and equilibrium of passing and defending
AM – Passing
But Diaby and Diarra are the same player.
56 Cockney Magpie // Dec 16, 2007 at 11:00 PM
a DM is a version of CM as is an AM, there tht should settle it lol
57 Tom_Toon // Dec 16, 2007 at 11:06 PM
g1
58 Leo // Dec 16, 2007 at 11:12 PM
there just CM with different abilities and techniques, not different positions!
59 Frankie Boy // Dec 16, 2007 at 11:40 PM
Exactly. The bottom line is whether CM DM AM or even RSM or LSM ……they are all M’s which basically means they are not GK’s, D’s or S’s.
does that settle any disputed opinions.
However, that said Big Sam seems to categorise them all as F’s and that they can play any position as selected.
Pity it don’t work at times
60 windsrave // Dec 17, 2007 at 4:42 AM
Patricio Araujo and Esparza are great talents
hopefully our scouts will notice that
61 Bucks1985 // Dec 17, 2007 at 7:24 AM
Does anybody know the names of all of Big Sam’s scouts? I know this maybe a bit random but I wanted Football Manager up to date for the holiday period. As regards this thread… it’s great to see that the club is investing in some youngsters for once. Indeed, if we want to stop spending obscene amounts of money on foreigners supposedly in their prime (Marcelino, Luque and Boumsong anyone?), this is the best way to go about it… Well done Mort and Allardyce for the change of emphasis!!!
62 toonoholic // Dec 17, 2007 at 7:30 AM
toom toon would you like to be my european scout ?
63 SOUTHEAST MAG // Dec 17, 2007 at 7:29 PM
Karim Benzema and Samir Nasri would be a great long term forward partnership. Nasri is great on the ball and could be a modern day Pedro, and Benzema is just an out and out goal scorer. Add Arshavin and uve got some great potential for some exciting football, something which has been sorely lacking in recent years.
