We reported last night that we thought Swindon Town’s 17 year-old left-back Ben Tozer, who we had covered earlier in the week as a Newcastle United target, was about to sign for the club. That has now been confirmed today by Swindon Town Football Club and it looks like an announcement on the deal will be made tomorrow.
Ben Tozer – will be signing for Newcastle – announcement tomorrow
Today Swindon Town have indicated that Ben Tozer is set to sign for Barclays Premier League Newcastle United for £1.1M. Club director Bob Holt this morning confirmed an offer for the youngster had been made and the Swindon Advertiser understands it will be accepted tomorrow.
Tozer, who has made just a handful of first team appearances, has been at the center of a bidding war between Premier League sides Everton, Portsmouth and Newcastle and it appears that Newcastle have got their man. The news comes as the long-awaited takeover of the club by Wiltshire businessman Andrew Fitton looks set to come to a head.
The Swindon Town club announced yesterday:
“The documents with regards to the takeover of the football club are currently with Mr. Fitton and he is currently in dialogue with the Wills family and their lawyers to resolve a couple of outstanding issues.”
“The Board of Swindon Town Football Club look forward to a successful completion by the end of tomorrow.”
Fitton also told www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk last night that both parties’ lawyers are now just checking the wording of the contract and, if acceptable, the takeover deal will go through tomorrow:
”Providing the lawyers agree the documentation, which they should do, the deal will go ahead,”
“Monday morning is now the critical time.”
Well it looks like Tozer will be our first signing for January – one of the many youngsters we expect to be coming to the club – comments welcome.
