Newcastle Alert – Sidwell On Loan in January

Chelsea central midfielder Steve Sidwell has recently been lined up with a return on loan to Reading – the club he left just 6 months ago for the London giants.

Steve Sidwell – loan deal on the cards in January?

At that time Newcastle United were even favorites to sign the 5’10” central midfielder, and we think Glenn Roeder had a verbal commitment from Steve. But when Roeder was sacked, there was a little turmoil at Newcastle, and Sidwell plumped for Chelsea instead.

The midfielder, who is now 25, joined Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer, but that was only after rejecting a new contract to become the highest-paid player in Reading Football Club’s history.

When he joined Chelsea not many pundits thought that was a wise choice by Steve, because of the world-class midfielders Chelsea have at the club. They wondered how many games he’d get, and that’s essentially turned out to be true. Sidwell has started just 6 Premier League games at Stamford Bridge.

Reading manager Steve Coppell is looking to get Steve back on loan in the January transfer window.

But why wouldn’t Steve be a target for Newcastle United?  An initial six months loan would seem a good deal on both sides. Newcastle could take a look at him through the end of the season, and Steve could see how he fit in at the Tyneside club, so he wouldn’t be making the same mistake he made plumping for Chelsea.

There’s little down-side for Newcastle and it seems to be a win-win for both the player and Newcastle United. Other clubs interested in Steve appear to be both Sunderland and Portsmouth.

What do you think? Is Steve a good loan signing for Newcastle through the end of the season?

No need for him… Barton, Geremi, Emre, Smith (yes… he is better as a striker) and Butt can all play that role in the centre of midfield. We need a player with guile and flair who can open up the opposition’s defence more than anything else.

We need a riquelme or Deco, a CAM (a attacking midfielder) that can break defence apart with passes and even some long range shots!

i keep going on about this but i think if we made a good concrete offer for diarra we would have a chance of getting him i really hope sam goes in for him and arshevin then our midfield would have a great passing ability just imagine diarra barton duff and arshevin that would be qaulity

Dont really know who for a young target man there are loads, the only thing we really neeed is creativity then just bring promising youngsters for cover, as many positions and possible.

    Arshavin + Young players.

he would be a step in the right direction, geremi and butt are a waste of space atm tbh. him and barton in the middle would be a strong partnership .. adding milner on the right and n’zogbia on the left is a threatening midfield. martins and smith upfront cant go wrong!

If we are to sign central midfielders, we should sign a good defensive midfielder in the Roy Keane mould or a great attacking midfielder.

Kadar has got to be pretty good hes 17 and playing for the under 21’s and there are many good hungarian talents atm.

What about Malaury Martin for a replcement for Butt. Not seen him myself but just happened to read a bit about him and he is said to be a pirlo/gattuso.

give Sidwell a loan deal and if he comes good let the old Butt go – as Geremi shld only play as our no.2 RB and hence one more seat in the center midfield; get Arshavin or Payet to play RW or the 3rd striker in 433 – both more talented than Milner (as much as i luv the lad) esp. at times we need magic to unlock tough defence; also if Owen goes, replacement may be Keane, Anelka, Palacio or Briand? our attack play will be more dynamic and balanced for sure
