Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce is reported to be planning a bid for his former Bolton Wanderers striker Jonathan Walters, who now plays for Ipswich Town, either as a striker or on the right wing. He stands 6’0″ tall.
Jon Walters – playing well for Ipswich Town
Sam Allardyce sold him at Bolton but is now reported to be ready to bid £1M for the Ipswich star.
Jonathan (Jon) Walters was born on 20th September 1983 in Birkenhead and currently plays as a striker for Ipswich Town F.C.
Jonathan started his career at Blackburn Rovers scoring plenty of goals for their youth team before moving to Bolton Wanderers. He played a few first team games there under then manager Sam Allardyce before signing for Hull City, then Wrexham and in 2006 signed for Chester City. He agreed terms with Ipswich on a deal worth £150K plus add-ons in mid-January 2007. On 3 March 2007 Walters scored his first goal for Ipswich in their 2-1 over Queens Park Rangers at Portman Road.
Jon Walters has already been at 9 clubs, and they are Blackburn, Bolton, Hull (loan), Crewe (loan), Barnsley (loan), Scunthorpe (loan), Wrexham, Chester City and now Ipswich Town. He has played 28 times for Ipswich and scored 12 goals. Jon has played in a total 156 first class games and scored 35 goals and has also played for the Republic of Ireland u21’s thus making him an Irish international, even though he is still eligible to play for England.
Walters has more than proved his worth at Ipswich and has been a prominent figure in the starting line-up, impressing everybody with his hard working displays, excellent attitude and consistency. Jon He scored his first ever hat-trick in the 6-0 win over Bristol City in November 2007 at Portman Road, and in the same week he received a call up to the Republic of Ireland squad.
We wonder if Walters has enough talent to make it in the Premier League with Newcastle United.
What do you think?

Comment #1I really think Sam should start to remeber hes in charge of Newcastle United and not Bolton Wanderers, hes not going to be good nough, no better than we already have. Sams quote : “We need to find pplayers of a better quality than we already have”.
He seems to talk a load of *** if this story is true!

Comment #4Sometimes a good squad player with something to prove can make an impact. Think Sibierski last season. Yeah not the most amazing player but scored a few goals when others were not putting in.
What we really need is someone covering the back post.

Comment #5Maybe Sam knows something about this boy that we don’t?!
Anybody remember good old prolific Michael Ricketts? He was unkown, BSA made something of him and BAM, he’s got 20 in a season and a call up to the England team!

Comment #7let’s remember this is a ‘report’
a synonym for paper talk, a euphemism for utter bollards.

Comment #8Maybe boy will surprise us all. Why not? To be true – it isn’t that much distance between premier league and championship. Don’t count Liverpool, Manchester U, Chelsea, Arsenal where almost every player is a world class. Gap isn’t that big. If hes great in Chapionship than he could make something in PL. For sure!

Comment #10The number of Newcastle players who have looked frankly not interested in the last few years it would make a refreshing change to have a young, powerful and committed young player who might just frighten a few of the overpaid lard arses into a fight for their places.

All this bl**dy talk about promising new youngsters and here we have some cr*p about a bloke of twenty five plus, hardly a youngster. If he is any good as magic-jim points out we are’nt gont to get him for 1m. If we are going to fork out 5m at least go for someone like Juniho (yeah I know he would probably cost more). At least make an offer.
That wannabe chief scout tom-toon can probably suggest 751 other better prospects.
I don’t believe it.

Comment #14Where is Michael Ricketts now? We dont need this type of player we have carrol to come back,if we are signing a striker we should go for someone with youth who has potential like altidore.
Walters is the same age as ameobi and i would rather we sell him for 2m to roeder and look around for more potential.

Well done Adam, all quality players have to come from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Such donkeys like Solskjaer, Cahill, Benni Mcarthy, Lescott, Clichy.
Hint: Dont open your mouth if you dont know what your talking about, makes you look less stupid.

Comment #16Reference should also be made to the fact that Walters may not jump at the chance to play for Newcastle.
Why move from star player in an average team to play backup to has beens and injury prone failures at another average team.
If it was an up and coming side like Man City, Portsmouth or Villa then it would be a step forward for him.
Granted he will command a bigger salary at Newcastle but money isn’t everything to some players.

Comment #17I doubt it is true guys… Lets take a look at the quotes we actually have from Sam and take into contence that this article provides no qoutes. Sam has told us that if he is to spend on first teamers, he will buy a player for the starting 11, meaning this guy would have to oust Dukes or Smith. He cant be seen as a talent either, since he at 24 must have reached something close to his full potential.

Comment #18AndyG… Man City, Portsmouth or Villa may be up and comming this season, but surely most players are intelligent enough to know that these clubs are only half as big as NUFC at the end of the day. There comes a new season after this one u know…

Comment #19Look we are not gonna buy walters, because we have smith, owen, viduka, ameobi and carroll and why would we sell luque and replace him with walters. It is just paper talk because he use to play for allardyce.
Also look at all the clubs he has played for,More does not mean better. He may be having a great season with ipswich, but the step up is a big one.I think looking at lower divisons is a good idea, look at cahill, shorey etc.
Ipswich do have some great youngsters and have a very good youth system so maybe allardyce is looking at some else…. HOPEFULLY.
