Newcastle Renew Interest in Gudjohnsen

Eidur Gudjohnsen has struggled to make any impact at the Nou Camp since his £8M move from Chelsea 18 months ago.

Eidur Gudjohnsen – Dad says he will reconsider his future at Barcelona

Newcastle were interested in the Icelandic International during the summer, and reports said Sam even met with the player in Spain. But today Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester City have been put on alert after Eidur Gudjohnsen’s agent and father Arnor said he will reconsider his future at Barcelona.

Eidur has started just two league games this season and the 29-year-old’s father, Arnor Gudjohnsen, said today:

“Eidur is perfectly happy with life at the Nou Camp but he is not ruling anything out.”

“I think he will stay at least until the summer but it’s up to him. Eidur believes he will play more for Barcelona, but in football you can never be certain.”

West Ham have already had an £8M bid Gudjohnsen turned down earlier in the year, but are still looking to strengthen their strike force this season. Newcastle could use Gudjohnsen in a number of positions, not least of all in attack. But we know Eidur is also very good in central midfield and could also be used there. Eidur could play in any one of the 3 forward positions when Sam employs his 4-3-3 formation.

If Newcastle are still interested in Eider, it may be that Sam will try to make a move in January, becasue we could do with Eidur’s services sooner rather than later. Since he has Premiership experience we think Chris Mort would OK the deal.

We think Eidur is what we need at Newcastle, because he has loads of Premiership experience with Chelsea, and has already proved he is a good player in England.

What do you think? Would a move for Eidur Gudjohsen in January make sense for Newcastle?

Let us know – comments always welcome.

I would love to see gudjohson play for newcastle, always have.but he is gonna cost at least 6m and we aint gettin money for players.

We also have few first team strikers who would you drop? If owen left in summer he would be a great replacement and i tink of martins a bit like hasselbaink and we know what that strike force was like.

If he comes to tyneside in the summer im all for it.

Why would he come to the Toon – he’s playing more for Barca this season and scoring, can’t see him being to keen to leave them for a struggling mid table team although if we pay him Owen type wages he’ll prob have a think about it

We just aren’t an attractive club to come to at the moment – he’d probably choose west ham over us due to the fact they’re based in London (where he apparantly still has a flat) and would be willing to pay over the odds for him

Gudjohnsen is a great player, getting on a bit, 28, rather see talented younger players not 18 but about 22-25, Kuranyi would be my choice or Chikhaoui is he wasnt african.

No thanks, I would have taken him a few years back, not no more though, hes not creative enough for me. Andriy Arshavin is the boyo.

Kuranyi? Mate, this isnt football manager. he wont come here full stop, not even if you took over his club and fined him 2 weeks wages for no reason, slated him in the press, dropped him to the under 18s and transfer listed him and told him he wasnt needed…he would still reject 130,000 a week wages with the money you got by selling Ramage to Chelsea for £82m

Bill F, what the hell are you on about Kuranyi would probably jump at the chance for any half decent prem club, his wags arent high either.

He’s too old, far too expensive and his wages would be outrageous. Leave him where he is, there are younger, hungrier players out there, who would do a better job.

I’ve got loads of Football Manager players who’d be class for Newcastle, with loads of 20’s and everything. Oh, I forget, real life isn’t football manager and most of those players are rubbish!

Schalke are doing appauling domestically this season, he wlould come and we need a big striker who just doesnt hold the ball up but can also be a prolific scorer.

Slavkovski agent says that there are two unnmed english clubs in for him, hopefully one is us and its quite probable as he is a bsa player.

Agree he’s too old and too expensive. Let West Ham sign him. I like the idea that we’re going for youth players, sooner rather than later these boys will come knocking on BSA’s door and they’ll hopefully surprise us all! We shouldn’t even be looking for another striker, we need a creative midfielder and a winger. My picks are as follows:

LB – Riise, lots of rumours probably stay at L’pool possibly Matt Taylor if price is right and still quite young!
RB – Wes Brown definitely. We need him in January and he’ll provide cover for CB too!
AM/FC – Arshavin has been mooted, looks a decent player, price must be right and age is good too.
RW/LW – We all hate him, he’s a livewire, but a quality player who gets underneath the oppositions skin and then takes a greta big dump on them. EL-HADJI DIOUF!!!!

These players (ex Arshavin) are proven performers in the EPL. The difference with so called world football palyers is that these boys have made a name for themselves in our league. If the price is right and they’re available then surely they’re better buys than IgorRaulDonaSlobawhogivesaf**ck. BSA says he wants experienced campaigners, who’re the right age and right mentality.

OK agree, maybe young, but if he’s that good, he’ll cost alot. Why sign him, when we have a geordie giant on loan at PNE?

the only reason that he will come is for the money, if thats true, let west ham have him, waste another 100 grand a week on some over rated player. mort will not go for this either, he stated that he will not be signging any aging players…

Well Carroll is doing crap with an amazingly bad attitude and considering Slavkovski is a talent and his record at international levels is immense and the price being mootd is only 1.5 mil its worth a punt.

Fact is Carrol is rated at Newcastle because our manager and coaches know him first hand. What i’ve read about your favourite player in the whole wide world (are you attracted to him or something Tom_Toon? Is he your lover?), is that he wants to stay in Italy and highly regarded by Inter! That usually means that he’ll go on loan to a Serie A club for a few seasons (Like Adriano did at Fiorentina) and then he’ll play for Inter!

I’d rather have Carroll above your love anyday, mainly because he’s a proper Geordie and with the right education a real talent too!

I think Gudjohnsen would be exactly what we need. He would fit straight into the 4-3-3 formation, has PL experience and we know he is a prolific goalscorer and a very versatile player! Who said we can’t buy him AND Arshavian? Isn’t he more of a CM anyway not a CF? I would like to see both at the club in January. And as for Gud ageing, Viduka scored 20 something goals last season at the age of 32/33. Surely Eidur would still be a good investment?
