Steven Taylor looks ready to return to the Newcastle United squad for this weekend’s St.James’ game with bottom placed Derby County.
Steven Taylor – back for Derby game on Sunday afternoon
The 21-year-old was left out of the team at the last minute on Saturday, for the terrible game but great win at Fulham. Steven had a slight hamstring injury which he had picked up in training just two days before the game.
Steven emerged fit and well in behind-closed-doors practice match against Middlesbrough yesterday afternoon, and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce says the Greenwich-born defender should be fit to face the Rams.
Sam said today:
“Everyone who played in the practice match has come through it fine,”
“Damien Duff, Abdoulaye Faye and Shola Ameobi also played, but Steven Taylor is the only one who is likely to come back into the team for the Derby game.”
“He looks fine after missing the Fulham match with a hamstring problem.”
Now with Rozehnal and Cacapa also fit to play on Sunday, it will be interesting to see who Sam goes for in central defense. We’d like to see Cacapa and Taylor, and see how they play together. However, that would be a little harsh on Rozehnal, so we expect it depends how the three look in training this week, as to who Sam picks. But it’s a nice problem for Sam and Newcastle to have, that’s for sure. 😀
