Steven Taylor Back for Derby County

Steven Taylor looks ready to return to the Newcastle United squad for this weekend’s St.James’ game with bottom placed Derby County.

Steven Taylor – back for Derby game on Sunday afternoon

The 21-year-old was left out of the team at the last minute on Saturday, for the terrible game but great win at Fulham. Steven had a slight hamstring injury which he had picked up in training just two days before the game.

Steven emerged fit and well in behind-closed-doors practice match against Middlesbrough yesterday afternoon, and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce says the Greenwich-born defender should be fit to face the Rams.

Sam said today:

“Everyone who played in the practice match has come through it fine,”

“Damien Duff, Abdoulaye Faye and Shola Ameobi also played, but Steven Taylor is the only one who is likely to come back into the team for the Derby game.”

“He looks fine after missing the Fulham match with a hamstring problem.”

Now with Rozehnal and Cacapa also fit to play on Sunday, it will be interesting to see who Sam goes for in central defense. We’d like to see Cacapa and Taylor, and see how they play together. However, that would be a little harsh on Rozehnal, so we expect it depends how the three look in training this week, as to who Sam picks. But it’s a nice problem for Sam and Newcastle to have, that’s for sure. 😀

Comments very welcome.

Cant see Taylor playing in place of either Rozy or Cacapa. Sam wont risk Owen until he knows Owen is 110% fit and you cant blame him.

I would prefer to sell Owen and replace him with a younger, hungrier, taller CF. Owen just doesnt have that hunger anymore; if he does, he keeps it for England these days. He is/ was a first class player, it just doesnt seem to come out for us though!!!!!

Don’t understand why our most expensive signing of the summer (Enrique) is always on the bench. Is this guy no good or something? Yes N’Zogbia is doing very well there in terms of going forward, but surely he would be more effective on the wing? N’Zog and Duff both playing on the left could terrify the opposition though!

cacapa and tayls at the back , rozy bless him still needs a bit more time i think , dwellls on the ball to long at times and picks the wrong passes out alot .
enrique is benched as sam want to bring him in gradually , save him from all the flack he would take if he made any mistakes , he’s in a new country on his own at a very young age , any hit to his confidence could see 6 mill down the drain .
