Sam – We Frustrated Fulham (and Fans)

Sam talked again about the clean sheet and 3 points at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Sam says we frustrated Fulham – but how about the fans?

Sam Allardyce - we frustrated Fulham

Big Sam told the Evening Chronicle today:

“The challenge now is to repeat last Saturday’s clean sheet at home against Derby County on Sunday. “Shay hinted at that as soon as he got through the dressing room door after the game, and he had a big smile on his face.”

“It’s very pleasing for the goalkeepers, because they thrive on clean sheets as much as defenders.” “It’s a responsibility on us all, and I hope we all contributed to keeping Fulham out.”

“We nullified their dangers and threats they had for most of the game.” “You’ve got to remember, playing away from home in the Premier League is never easy.”

“Fulham have scored a lot of goals at home and pressured a lot of teams, but we never allowed them to do that.”

“We frustrated them, and finally killed them off at the end.”

Well it was a good win but just a terrible game to watch. We certainly hope the Derby game will be a little less of a pain to watch. During Saturday’s game we kept wondering when Newcastle would get going.

But on the other hand, we must admit we’ve been rather upbeat this week with the 3 points. We can always play well in the next game. Maybe that’s Sam’s mantra. :D

Comments welcome.

i dont mind being frustrated by a boring game as long as we win the game in the end, and that the team put as much effort in as they can.

thats all i ask, and im guessing alot of other geordies and toon supporters alike.

    agree Leo.

I hope the bastards :) are going to keep a clean sheet cause i’m waiting for a bloody revenge, i already put a little money on a 5-0 win ;) .

    Well said lads..

I agree 100% . Who cares how we win as long as we do win..

Were all so much happier the following week then

i agree, 3 points is what matters.

you know, we are actually starting to sound like bolton fans, i went on a few of their forums last year and they said the same thing after a win

agreed that 3 points is what matters, however please don’t make me sit through 90 mins of that every week in the freezing cold – if my nuts hadn’t been frozen to my body they would have been bored off.

Who are you people ? Are you Man United in disguise – I have never heard such rubbish – let me tell you I bloody care how we play – I dont pay my money to watch them rack up points, I pay to watch exciting passionate football, and to stand among a crowd caught up in the passion of the game. Ridiculous statements….

    Bobby Ollox

what u need to understand is that we are a team in transition and in order for us to attract the types of players who will have us playing great football we need to be fairly successful in the league this year and get into europe. This year is about results so that next summer we can sign the players we really want

  • 9 steve // Dec 20, 2007 at 7:22 PM

@dragoner – yeah we’re transitioning from half decent to the most boring team in the prem :-)

  • 10 Chris Bunton // Dec 20, 2007 at 7:35 PM

This is how it’s going to be under Sam just ask the Bolton fans!! We may get the odd good result but we will have to put up with neanderthal football and we’ll lose to teams like Derby and Portsmouth…If we’re lucky we might get a UEFA place…that might of been good enough for the 16thousand Bolton fans but it’s not good enough for me, the sooner he leaves the better!! Just think we could have got Sven or Ramos!!!

  • 11 ToonKing // Dec 20, 2007 at 7:38 PM

yeah Sven……….everybody hated him and was appalled by the idea of him managing us………..yet now……..

    Sam’s the Man.

the 3 points are important but we shouldnt have to frustrate Fulham – we should be playing them off the park!

  • 13 Cockney Magpie // Dec 21, 2007 at 2:35 AM

I happen to quite like the neanderthal old English style of football than cockey, arrogant european style

  • 14 Daniel Petersen // Dec 21, 2007 at 5:36 AM

The win is the first and foremost thing. Once we have a winning team together that has good chemistry the fluid, stylish football will come. I always feel that we’re a little hard on BSA. The club was a disaster under FFS/Souness/Roeder. It just takes time. I know Man City is doing great this season, but I think that is an exception rather than the rule. 5-0 to the Toon this weekend, Smith finally score a goal.

spot on tom.frustrate man u arse chelsea and liverpool AWAY fron home and go for it against the rest.

  • 16 Macas // Dec 21, 2007 at 9:56 AM

I would hardly say a lucky last minute win against bog standard Fulham was the way forward. It shows how far we have slipped when fans are happy with rubbish football and rubbish tactics. We got away with it against Fulham but werent so lucky against Derby and Reading, and we fluked a draw against Sunderland. Is this really the man you want leading us ‘forward’?

  • 17 steve // Dec 21, 2007 at 10:23 AM

@macas – I totally agree – we have gone backwards if anything. Even Roeder managed to take us from relegation to europe in 3/4 of a season ( although he was quickly taking us back to relegation status) – we’re def playing as bad as anything under souness / roeder although we are definitely more consistent these days – we play sh!te in every game.

I can’t believe people keep saying sams the man when all he has done is make a crap team and get the fans to think a wins over fulham and brum and a draw against arsenal (which we did under both Souness and Roeder) are proof of better days ahead!!!
