Newcastle’s Nicky Butt Signs Contract Extension

It has been announced on the official Newcastle United Web Site, that Nicky Butt has signed a new contract at the club, which will keep him at Newcastle United until the end of next season.

Nicky Butt – at Newcastle until June, 2009 with one year option after that

The 31-year-old’s current deal expires in June of next year but the midfield star has now agreed just a one-year extension, but with the option of a further year beyond that.

Sir Bobby Robson signed Butt in the summer of 2004, and Nicky has now made 95 appearances for the Geordies, scoring three goals.

While he had a difficult time initially at Newcastle, and was loaned out to Birmingham City for a season, he has come back very well over the last season and a half and shown a lot of guts and spirit to win over the Newcastle faithful. He is now a key player in Sam Allardyce’s new look Newcastle United side.

We’re glad Nicky has signed his extension, because he a good player with plenty of experience at the very top level with Manchester United, and he has just a fantastic attitude.  Hopefully he can help us capture Wes Brown in the summer too.    😀

Squad player just to cover for injuries, we should get a young defensive midfielder as soon as possible . For our future and also for better football like, Butt is almost clueless and give away all our pocession in our past few games.

i cant beleive there is (so called) fans out there who dont rate Nicky Butt. He was our player of the year last season and this season he has been our most consistent player. He has only missed one game (thru suspension) and he demonstrates every single match that he is committed to the shirt. a few bad games does not make him the dead wood you lot make him out to be!

Butt is a good player who gives 100% every week. sure he needs to stop trying them long shots outside the box all the time but im happy we have got him for a bit longer, hopefully we get a better DM and Butt is perfect cover

Bobby I agree, but dont worry because my opinion is the only one that counts, ; ).
I think Butt has been very good this season, not quite a Makalele but hes decent none the less.

Right, i wake up late and read this bollocks i want to go back to sleep forever, Butt gives 100% and is a good tackler, i love him for that but he should look for short passes not long ones or hard ones and give the ball away, if he didnt do that then i wouldnt be complaining.

    Need a young DM:
    Vukojevic – New Gattuso
    Mavuba – New Makelele

ok he might give the ball away now and again but he has great professionalism and character unlike a lot of players who have played for us over the years.
