Sam Wants Newcastle United Strengthened

Sam talked to the Newcastle Journal this morning, and seemed to reiterate what Chris Mort has been saying all along. Newcastle want to strengthen the playing side of the club at every level.

Sam Allardyce – wants Newcastle strengthened to be number 1

It’s been rumored that Sam in not too happy with the quality of youngsters we currently have at the club, and has told his scouts to be on the look-out for any exciting young prospects that can be brought into the club, wherever we can find them across the world.

Sam talked about this today, and started with the signing of the exiting 17 year-old prospect, Ben Tozer, from Swindon Town:

“We’ve got Ben because he is one for the future, but we are not just looking for young players who will hopefully improve the strength of the first team in a few years time.”

“We’ve got to build up that squad of young players because it’s pretty small at the moment and we are building this club up at every level.”“But I’m not just looking for young players, we’re looking for players of any age who can improve this football club.”

“No football manager just goes into the transfer market looking for players of a certain age.” “We also want players who can go straight into the first team and, if they are available, we will try and get them in January.”

That’s really good news for Newcastle fans, and we think if good players are available and can be brought in at a reasonable price, we will be doing some transfer deals in January. One player we suspect may be signed almost immediately, is Russia’s versatile captain Andrei Arshavin.

Russian Captain Andrei Ashavin

Andrei has already indicated he would love to come and play at Newcastle and the transfer fee of £8M seems reasonable for a player of his experience and skill. Arshavin concedes he is flattered by talk of Newcastle’s interest interest and told the Daily Mirror earlier this month:

“Of course I would like to play in England,” “In Russia as well as England they are talking about Newcastle being interested in me and there has been no concrete offer.

“”In principle if they made an offer I would be interested.”

Certainly signing Andrei on January 1st (in just 11 days time) would be a nice start to the transfer window for Newcastle United, at least we think so. What do you think?

Comments always welcome.

Yeah – we should strengthen the management, Sams made us the most boring team in the prem, we could just have easily lost the games against Brum and Fulham, in fact same goes for all of our games with the possible exception of the Bolton game.
we have gone backwards under sam. Even Roeder managed to take us from relegation to europe in 3/4 of a season ( although he was quickly taking us back to relegation status) – we’re def playing as bad as anything under souness / roeder although we are definitely more consistent these days – we play sh!te in every game.

I can’t believe people keep saying sams the man when all he has done is make a crap team and get the fans to think a wins over fulham and brum and a draw against arsenal (which we did under both Souness and Roeder) are proof of better days ahead!!!

Still sams unlikely to be sacked as Ashley won’t want to pay him and his staff off then have to pay over the odds for yet another manager, we’re mid table and likley to stay there and I reckon sams telling mort and ash that it’s progress and they’re happy to believe

@toonking – unfortunately you’re right although no wins in January might change things a bit (espec if we don’t get 6 points from Derby / Wigan

@Alex – you can hardly compare Chelsea to Newcastle, they may be boring but they dominate opponents and in Drogba have the best striker in the prem – we are really boring, can’t pass for toffee and are unlikley to beat any of the top four (we’re lucky to beat anyone these days)

thats a VERY BIG promise 🙂

steve we should beat Derby but Wigan will be the toughest of of the Easy 4. That will be an important game.

but then again we will surely beat Chelsea…………. 😉

Sam’s the man for now, and should be backed by both the board and the supporters. Getting on his back isn’t going to help the team do well.

Sam can turn us into a consistent top 6 side. This will be by playing ugly and being hard to beat at home.

But he doesn’t have the tactical skills, or style of football to turn us into a top four team that can challenge for honours.

However let Sam turn us into that top 6 team first, then get a world class manager in to take us to the next level.

Steve, Roeder had a good run of games at the end of a season to shoot us from 14th to 7th. But you can’t really ground your belief that he was superior to Sam. As you rightly said, we quickly came back down with a bump the next season.

    What happened? What was missing?

Mr Alan Shearer as Assistant Manager for one.

The signs look good in relation to Ashavin, I just hope he isn’t using us- just dropping names to attract attention from other clubs. Hmm.

Who cares, Ajax have good players but for example if Jose Enrique was at Ajax there would be alot of hype around him.

Ok Steave, cool out man. Boring but wining! As long as we win the game i don’t mind if it was boring. This team still have to play together and thanwe will have some game. In this moment we must tak what we can and that’s boring victory but I believe that, as time gose by, we will play more attractive. We need some creative midfielder! We don’t have any!

ok I’ve chilled, think my problem is that I think of the toon as a top 4 side when reality is that if we can get to where Everton, Blackburn, Aston Villa, West Ham and Bolton (last years model) are and actually challenge for a top six spot (i.e. sixth at best) consistently then I should be well chuffed ( even if we get there by playing the dullest football – it’s the winning that counts after all.

Sam – you are indeed the man and I for one think that once you’ve achieved the heady sights of sixth you should put yourself up as the messiah – we were shite before you came but tried to hide it by occasionaly playing good football, you have returned us to our rightful place by actually winning some games against our relegation struggling counterparts.

I’m more than happy to spend up to £1,000 per season following you and your glorious team and promise that I shall never show anything but full support for you and your underpaid overachieving players.
I bow to your tactical knowledge as should the players who aren’t as wise as you and don’t actually know their best position – thank god you came along and sorted us out

Bow down to SAM for he is God

Good job your not a sarcastic person.

Trouble with the toon is no matter how bad they play and how pissed off we get, come match day we can’t wai to go through it all again………..

This year we need to judge ourselves against Everton / Portsmouth .

Main thing is the club is going forward this does not mean Sam. If he needs to go at some point then I have confidence in Ash and Mort to be able to attract a top coach. Under FFS we had no chance as we were a soap opera, not anymore

Hears to another 3 points before Christmas…..
