The incredible happened, after only 6 minutes today at St. James’ Park, when Derby County’s young Giles Barnes hit a goal from 28 yards out past Given into his right hand corner. The bottom of the league team were 1-0 up against the Magpies.
That ruined the chance of Newcastle getting a clean sheet and a win. Newcastle did come back into the game and were attacking Derby at every opportunity and they should have had a penalty when Alan Smith was clearly pushed in the box trying to get on the end of a Charles N’Zogbia corner but the referee waved play on.
Mark Viduka – nice goal by Mark to equalize the score
But Newcastle were level after 27 minutes when Mark Viduka took a good chance and hammered the ball in the net after being set up nicely by Alan Smith, Newcastle’s captain for the day.
The formation Sam is using is weird, to say the least, with Martins out on the right and Milner out on the left. It seems to us this is playing into Derby’s hands and martins should be ion the center where he would be much mire dangerous.
Derby look what they are, a team struggling at the bottom of the league but Newcastle have not been able to capitalize on several half chances that have come their way.
Anything other than a win today will be unacceptable and we expect Emre to be introduced shortly into the second half and even Steven Taylor, who has proved he can score goals in situation like this.
But Sam’s formation is almost like a barrier to Newcastle’s free flowing attack. And we have out most dangerous player and top scorer, Oba Martins, stuck out on the right wing. Why Sam will not play 4-4-2 at home, we have no idea.
