Sam Needs Win at Wigan

Sam talked yesterday on the subject of playing Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day and needing a vital 3 points from the match.

Sam Allardyce – it’s a winnable game for us if we play well

Derby were bottom of the league with an absolutely abysmal record away from home but were still beating Newcastle with just 3 minutes to go in normal time on Sunday, before the impressive Mark Viduka saved our blushes, and we scraped through with a draw.

We hope Newcastle can recover from that huge disappointment, and give the fans what they rightly expect – 100% commitment and some good football and some good skills. We certainly pay our players enough to provide that.

Sam said yesterday:

“The Christmas period is where people begin to start fighting harder and harder for their position at the bottom.” “Wigan have got a new manager, and as with Derby in Paul Jewell, they start getting more commitment and more organization.”

“Wigan are in the same position at the moment by winning one and drawing two under Steve.” “They will have picked up some confidence, so I will expect a very difficult game, but one in which if we do hit our form, each individual and as a team, we can call it a winnable game.”

It’s fair to say that Chris Mort must have been displeased with Newcastle’s performance on Sunday, and Sam cannot use the excuse that the players are still acclimatizing to the Premiership for much longer. If they keep making these mistakes, then perhaps they are not good enough to be playing in this league.

But surely we can expect to see some better performances from the lads as they start to gel. We need another performance like the team gave against Arsenal, and if we can do that tomorrow, that will be 3 points in the bag. But we’re never sure which Newcastle team will turn up for each game these days. If it’s the same team and display as on Sunday, we’ll probably lose tomorrow, and Sam can both expect and deserve to be in a little hot water.

What do you think?

first we need to contain them while we are off the ball , leaving pressure off us to knock as many balls into the box as possible , percetages tell me this should bring in a goal if we create more than 20 chances .
we need to play our strikers in the centre of the park so they have a crap game , and go spend 6 million of someone to sit on our bench .
if all the star’s align , and sam slaughter’s a goat before the match , i can see a 1-0 win , goal in the 93rd min .
merry christmass my fellow geordie bretheren .

I think it will be a hard game, and to be fair, we dont seem to be as lucky as some reporters state. Actually i would say that we have been very unlucky indeed. How many teams have come here and score screamers for their first goal that 9 out of 10 times would go past the goal. Take sundays game for instance, we looked like chrushing Derby, till Barnes popped up and scored a screamer.
It seems that Sam prefers the 4-3-3. And to be honest i can see it work out great for us… Once we have the right players for it that is.

as it is i would use the following (Taking Owen into account since he seems close to return).

    ………..Given
    Beye..Faye..Cacapa..Zog
    …Barton..Emre..Smith
    …Owen..Dukes..Duff

I have left Butt, Oba, Roz and Milner out since they have played badly enough to lose their shirt in any team imo.

i was just lookinf at the next couple of fixtures of us and the teams around us (as you do). It was interesting to note that villa are 3 points above us. Their next two games are chelski away and wigan away, the same as us only switched. Lets see who does better over the two games. I heads saying villa sadly, but my heart is saying toon.
Ne one think duff or emre will start tomorrow?

    i think sam will play

    emre in goal
duff, martins, barton, smith at the back
viduka, geremi, ameobi, beye in midfield
    taylor, cacapa up front

i wouldnt be at all suprised, hes so worried about out thinking the opposition that he out thinks himself

to be honest we wont win against wigan and we are in for a miserable run of games after it

    welcome to sam’s newcastle

We need the win but it will be though…….anyway i asked Santa that Duff and Emre start, if Sam can do that we should have no problem.

I’m really hoping the team will look like this :

    ———-Given——–
    Beye Faye Cacapa Zog
    Milner Emre Barton Duff
    —-Oba —–Viduka —

with Miskey making he’s return around the 65’th .

we should have no problem with this team but who know what’s Sam’s gonna do….anyways Happy Holidays 😉

2 slow centre backs there toonking , id swap tayls in for cacapa , also swap in smith for oba .
with those changes that team would be ideal for me on paper , and line it up against the likes of derby , brum, reading , wigan .. and we should be wondering what the hell is going on .

Toon Kings team is almost my favorite. Barton/Duff or Geremi on defencive midf.
Duff, Milner and Emre on offensive midf.
    Baye, Cacapa/Taylor cb.
Baye and N’zogbia could make this team very strong offensive and def.
I belief, that attack is the best form of defence. Merry Christmass.

    Seasonal greetings to everyone.

I have been pretty busy of late so have not really had time to blog.
I have been following whats been happening however and will continue to do so.

I will contribute the occaisional comment from time to time and did ask Santa to send us some new players and am keeping my fingers crossed for them and a change of fortune plus some decent football.

Lets hope the New year brings good tidings to Geordie Land.

I would be surprised if we played in any other way than to contain Wigan, and that in the now common 4-3-3 setup with 4-5 players playing out of position.

If Owen is fit it’s 100 % guaranteed he will start, and same goes for Smith. Enrique will ofc not play, I mean why would our 6M+ left back play?

    Predicted team:

    Given
    Beye – Taylor, Faye/Cacapa – N’Zog
    Smith, Butt, Barton
    Owen/Martins, Viduka, Duff

    Predicted outcome:
Newcastle will play like utter crap and salvage a draw in the 87th minute, scored after the 79th long ball which luckily will fall to an unmarked Viduka.

first of all if we play 433 then its no good putting martins out right. Secondly if allardyce replaces every player who makes a mistake (rod on sun and cacala before him) we’ll need another 10 players in January let alone 3.

Unfortunately, if we play the way we did on sun I predict a 2 1 defeat. Oba needs to play more centrally for him to have max effect.

Graham. Oba needs to start ‘playing’ to have any effect. He was useless against Derby. Ball control awful, positioning useless, effort minimum, ability to dribble past defenders poor. Who ever before saw an attacker keep running up field after the through pass had been cut out? Most players would have stopped and then tried to retrieve the ball, not Oba he kept running the wrong way. This is nothing to do with being played out of position its atitude and ability, and I doubt Oba on both counts.

We can win at Wigan because theyare rubbish as well. Sam is a good manager but has lost the plot. Why is Enrique £6M not playing and a makeshift full back Zog taking his place? Why is Smudgerplaying at all? What does this person do? Yellow cards by the bucketload. A striker who cannot score and does not even look like scoring. Amazingly, he is the club captain. Says it all really. Newcastel are not underachievers… they are where they are and scraping wins because they are not good enough. The table does not lie, nor does my eyesight eg Derby, Fulham, Portsmouth, Liverpool etc etc|A slow midfield, shaky back four and a keeper who lets every long shot in. Keep the faith. We shall return…but not this season.

Ashley and Mort must provide cash in January to improve the side, or we’ll finish 9th, 10th or 11th this season.

Two or three class signings will take this side up to 5th or 6th and Europe next season if we’re lucky……

I have said it the whole season, and Finally I get the feeling that you people in here agree… EMRE HAS to be in the team, not Butt and Geremi.
TOONKING, I agree with your teamselection, but I would prefer Smith instead of Oba.. Oba has NO BRAIN!! (and no heart too…)

I loved to watch our left side in the last 5-10 mins against Derby, with Zog, Emre and Duff.. such pace and flair.. and skills!!

(PS: If Sam is the BIG man that he thinks he is, then he should take his hat and walk away NOW!! (looks like he is trying to get sacked, and get a BIG payout) He embarrasses me and all that is The Toon!! It hurts so bad to watch our very talented team play so poor, and they all look lost!
F***k,, all he ever does is talk about how good HE was at Bolton..
To all Boltons out there, you’re better off without SAM. He thought he was bigger than the club, and still does… and even you play attractive football nowadays.

I wish you all a happy new year.
