Geremi has spoken to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle and as far as he knows, he’s still captain of our club.
Geremi – still captain of Newcastle?
Geremi talked to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle yesterday:
“Alan will be captain when I am away at the African Nations.†“The manager told me the decision for him to be captain was to get him ready for the responsibility while I’m gone.â€
“As far as I know that is the case.†“We are disappointed because it brings to an end our unbeaten run.†“It is a big disappointment because we didn’t expect Wigan to beat us.â€
“We had some possession but, unfortunately, weren’t able to make the breakthrough. You know when you play against a team like Wigan they will strong from set-pieces and we need to be aware of it.â€Â  “They scored from a set piece and it was the only real chance they had.â€
However, after the game Geremi tried to keep the players’ mood upbeat on the bus. But Oba Martins and Jose Enrique were seen to be very upset at the performance of the team. In fact Jose seemed upset when he was on the field near the end, and seemed very frustrated with it all. That’s probably because Enrique has hardly played in the last 4-5 games.
Geremi, who will face his former team-mates at Chelsea on Saturday, added:
“We have to stick together, especially in the next few days because we have a lot of matches.“We must keep our chins up as we have a big game with Chelsea.†“We need to recover very quickly.â€
Good words from Geremi, but the game at Chelsea will not be easy. They are a very good team unlike our last two opponents. Obvious apologies to all Wigan and Derby fans reading this. 😀
