Chelsea vs Newcastle – Teams: Viduka, Emre Dropped

nufc-crest.png

chelsea-fc-emblem.png
For Newcastle, there is no Gérémi but Damien Duff starts his first game at Chelsea since leaving. Mark Viduka is on the bench with Obefami Martins coming back into the side to partner Smith up front. Michael Owen is also back on the bench for the first time since suffering an injury on England duty.

Cacapa, Faye and Taylor all start so we have quite a few central defenders in the line up. Surprisingly, Emre is left on the bench too, so this is a very defensive team.

Petr Cech and Andriy Shevchenko are absent through injury so Hilario returns in goal and Salomon Kalou will spearhead Chelsea’s attack. Carlo Cudicini’s rib injury means a place on the bench for Chelsea’s 17-year-old Wales Under 21 international goalkeeper Rhys Taylor.

Shaun Wright-Phillips returns on the right wing with Joe Cole on the left. Wayne Bridge, Juliano Belletti and Tal Ben-Haim come into the defense and Michael Ballack is captain.

Chelsea are expected to line up in a 4-3-3 formation as follows:

Teams:

Chelsea:
Hilario, Michael Essien, Joe Cole, John Obi Mikel, Michael Ballack, Wayne Bridge, Salomon Kalou, Tal Ben-Haim, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Alex, Juliano Belletti
Subs: Steve Sidwell, Claudio Pizzaro, Scott Sinclair, Paulo Ferreira, tbc

Newcastle United: Shay Given, Claudio Cacapa, Habib Beye, Charles N’Zogbia, Steven Taylor, Abdoulaye Faye, Nicky Butt, James Milner, Damien Duff, Alan Smith (c), Oba Martins
Subs: Steve Harper, David Rozehnal, Emre, Michael Owen, Mark Viduka

Referee: Mike Riley
Attendance: tbc

early lead and newcastle dont go in the same sentence. unless it is newcastle give yet another early lead to the opponents.

4-5-1 . martins up front on his own.
which would be fine if smith pushed up along side him where possible , he never seems todo it tho .

Ya look at the Chelsea team, pretty weak compared to it’s usual look. Yet on Chelsea TV (part of a package, don’t ask me why it’s in that package) which I’d on to see if they’d show the match, they (they being the most annoying pundits ever) they were saying things like a formality, laughing their heads off at Barton (well) one guy when asked said, it’ll be nice, easy, relaxed, then when asked to predict the score, 3-0, 2-0..5-0.

They are not threatened one bit, they think that usually in this kinda situations players would be like we’ll go out and show him, Sam, that we can do it, but cause Sam has been so negative towards them, they think that we’ll have no fight at all in us. That we’ll be nervous, edgy and will fall apart when (not if) Chelsea score their first goal.

And I don’t blame them one bit for saying that.

Hard lines Martins kidda , decent centre through ball, split their defence but I think he had a rush of blood to the head and bottled it

Why the hell is Emre on the bench and Faye and Butt are in midfield. At this point Sam’s sanity needs to be brought into question.
