Alan Smith Sent To Hospital

Alan Smith, the Newcastle United captain, had to be sent to hospital on Saturday night suffering from amnesia.

Alan Smith – amnesia scare for the Newcastle captain

Smith was hit in the head following a nasty collision with his own team-mate Abdoulaye Faye, during Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.  Alan received some treatment during the game and managed to play on for a short time afterwards, but he had to be substituted with 20 minutes remaining in the game.

Smith seemed OK, but then apparently on the plane bringing the team back to Newcastle from London, he complained of being unwell to his team-mates. The club doctor then advised that Smith be sent to hospital, where relevant checks were made on his condition.

Smith was kept in hospital overnight and then released yesterday morning.

Alex Black, Smith’s agent said:

“Alan couldn’t remember much after getting hurt and the club felt he should have a proper examination.”

“He was allowed out on Sunday morning when he was feeling a lot better.”

We hope Smith will now be available for Newcastle’s game against Manchester City at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening. The game kicks off at 7:45 pm and it’s a game Newcastle can certainly win.

It was a bit of a strange incident but at least it shows there was commitment around – one of the things that hasnt always been apparent!

Here’s wishing Smithy a swift recovery.

Ed – thanks for hosting the No1 NUFC site in 07 and hope it goes from strength to strength in 08.

    Have a great one folks!!

Well, this just shows something doesn’t it?

If Smith had not have had a whack to the head, he’d have stayed on the pitch…

So, those saying that Sam’s marvelous substitute, i.e Smith off, Rozy on, can now see that in fact, it was forced upon him.
I still say that that was the point to bring on Viduka, not Rozenhal.

Having amnesia may not be such a bad thing for Smith, lets face it, the season so far is nothing to remember is it. He is the lucky one not knowing about it.

Smith is a player who is never afraid to get stuck in – which makes him Sam’s kind of player. I feel he can play a major role for the club, but not in midfield please Sam! Hope he makes a quick recovery.

Hahaha, Newcastle really can’t stop being the soap opera it is, can it? Chairmen insulting the fans, on-field bust ups, constant power struggles (Bellamy-Souness, Robson – Dyer, Fat Fred – Anyone), constant underachievement, players getting sent to prison and now we have a player with amnesia!

    I just have to laugh.

Who had the brilliant idea of allowing Alan on an airplane after a potentially traumatic hit to the head?!?!?!? If a player has even the slightest possibility of a concussion, you keep him at the same altitude / pressure zone until he has been thoroughly examined and cleared by a specialist. That is not funny to mess around with.
