Alan Smith, the Newcastle United captain, had to be sent to hospital on Saturday night suffering from amnesia.
Alan Smith – amnesia scare for the Newcastle captain
Smith was hit in the head following a nasty collision with his own team-mate Abdoulaye Faye, during Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Alan received some treatment during the game and managed to play on for a short time afterwards, but he had to be substituted with 20 minutes remaining in the game.
Smith seemed OK, but then apparently on the plane bringing the team back to Newcastle from London, he complained of being unwell to his team-mates. The club doctor then advised that Smith be sent to hospital, where relevant checks were made on his condition.
Smith was kept in hospital overnight and then released yesterday morning.
Alex Black, Smith’s agent said:
“Alan couldn’t remember much after getting hurt and the club felt he should have a proper examination.â€
“He was allowed out on Sunday morning when he was feeling a lot better.”
We hope Smith will now be available for Newcastle’s game against Manchester City at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening. The game kicks off at 7:45 pm and it’s a game Newcastle can certainly win.
