Consistency Key To Sam’s Survival

There’s no doubt that Newcastle were unlucky not to at least get a draw on Saturday at Chelsea and with any luck could have taken all 3 points.

Sam Allardyce - consistency of Newcastle crucial

Newcastle had played very well in the game, and deserved something out of it, before Salomon Kalou’s offside goal that gave the Blues all 3 points. We just didn’t get the rub of the green on Saturday, but Sam Allardyce still thinks he can take a lot of positives out of the game.

Allardyce told Newcastle World TV today:

“There were a lot of positives and we have to take them into what is a crucial, crucial game against Man City,”

“Every player can take something from the game but now they have to make sure they keep to that level and not dip below it.”

We think that’s going to be the key for Sam, to have his players at a consistency very close to their best. That’s what a good coach should be doing after all, getting the very best out of his players.  But we don’t think Sam can let the team drop to the levels we plunged to against Derby or Wigan. The more games we see like that, the closer Sam will be to the exit from the Newcastle United hot seat. The fans just have to see some progress being made in this, Sam’s first season at the helm.

Sam continued:

“We have been robbed of a point by what was a blatant offside and I think the officials are the only people in the stadium who haven’t seen it.”

“Before that we had long periods of attacking play and could’ve got a winner had the ball fallen to our players at the right time - as it did with Chelsea for both their goals.”

“But we have to get on with things and we have two big games coming up starting with Man City.” “I want the players to find a level of consistency because we’ve already shown what we can do this season.”

It will be interesting as usual to see which team Sam will play tomorrow night against Mancchester City. We’d like to see an attacking 4-4-2 formation with Milner and Duff on the wings, and maybe Visuka and Owen to start up front. But we have to go all out for the 3 points tomorrow, that’s an absolute necessity.

Comments welcome.

how many times do we need to read this common sense

  2. Dragoner Says:

    LOL @ Carl

  3. Steeley Says:

Yeah Ed, spout the same crap in every article “we need the win….its a necessity” but as soon as Big Fat Sam plays the same sh!tty 4-5-1 (4-3-3…whatever he likes to call it) and we play rubbish you’re there by his side saying “give him time”….”he’s the one who can turn it round”…..”the best man-manager EVER”….tosh!!!
When he puts out a genuine 4-4-2….and goes out to win a a game, and not for a draw…at home…then I’ll support him!

Seriously Ed, consistency…what consistency?? We play boring defensive football, even at home, is that the CONSISTENT football you want to see at St James’ for the next few years!? Not for me thank you very much!

  4. UTD111 Says:

Sam just can’t win. Everone knows our defence last season was a joke, Carr playing left back etc Sam has strengthened the defensive side of the team but its still settling down. Now the moans are about the attack! I wouldn’t have his job for all the tea in China - he’s only had 5 months and the whingers are at it already!! And before everybody starts pointing at Errikson - he inherited a much better squad than Sam did!
    Happy New Year!

  5. Toony Says:

Ed… Great to see u remembered it was “the rub of the green” ;)

  6. awc88 Says:

were playing a team that has had a new manager for less thime than us, finished belows last season, yet sven has got them playing good football and are 5th in the league, ed cant u see how bad things have been under sam that were have made no progress from last season

  7. carl Says:

next articles going to be ( newcastle need to win games to climb the league)

  8. Drago Says:

damn you all are a fooking wankers… onlya moan and nothing else, prove your point you assholes, i cant read your stupid messages anymore, what stupid fook said that sven got better side ? just watch how much he paid for it, and lets wait till the end of season to judge… what a supporters you are, after every lost game, just shouting sack this sack that…

  9. Steeley Says:

UTD - please can you quote the tean that Erikkson inherited?? Because I can bet you a million dollars that it wasnt as good as the one that Sam took on!!! Bar our defence (and that doesnt include the ‘keepers), our team was bloody good!!! In the same vein as Roeder, Fat Sam just doesnt know how (and where) to play the guys’ strengths (i.e. a RW on the right wing, a LW on the left wing, an AM in an attacking midfield role, a S in a striking role and not on the right wing)

  10. carl Says:

steeley, yes sam inherited a better team, we need to let sam know exactly what we think of his shitty tactics etc., but how can we do this!

  11. Pi55 Off Sam Says:

Do people realise our defence is worse this season than last season>?

  12. Steeley Says:

Carl - in reality this is out best forum….on blogs like this. Of course Sam wont ever read these, but having a good debate about it at least lets people know how we all feel! Oh God, I sound like a bible basher! haha.

Pi55 of Sam - I havnt seen the statistics (are we really worse??) but I for one must say that I prefer a team minus the likes of Bramble, Babayaro, ‘Gooch’ etc.
Cacapa and Rozenhal are good defenders, they just havent seemed to gel yet (has Sam played the same back two in back-to-back matches yet?). I reckon they’ll come good…hopefully!!

  13. Pi55 Off Sam Says:

We’re not better put it this way

  14. Steeley Says:

Fair enough, we certainly arent better at attacking that’s for sure! Can anyon quote what our avergage “shots on/off target” is for the season so far?? Coz I can bet for certain that it isnt anywhere near where we were before Sam got here! Does he not realise that to survive you have to score goals to win a game?? In his ideal world we would draw 0-0 every game……38 points isnt always good enough to stay up Sam!

  15. nightfall Says:

    consistency? what consistency?

  16. UTD111 Says:

Steeley - just one thing, I said “squad” not “team” - what I meant was whenever we had an injury in certain positions, all we had as backup was youth team players (although I admit Edgars goal against Manure was a beaut!). Sam has bolstered the squad with experienced players like Viduka, Beye, Smith, Faye etc Can’t remember Man City having to play their kids in the same numbers as us last season but I may be wrong. Cheers

  17. Bill f Says:

Visuka, Ed is this some new polish player. :)

  18. Steeley Says:

UTD - fair enough fella. It was quite obvious that our squad in general has been very very poor for many years. It looks like that issue is being addresses right now with youth coming in, but still, the point was that regardless of what was in the first or second team, Sven (and Ramos) have come in and transformed what were stagnant teams into well functioning teams….thats what management is all about, and sadly, what I think Fat Sam is lacking….BADLY!!

  19. Pi55 Off Sam Says:

We have been consistant this year……. sonsistantly crap!

  20. iain Says:

“Errikson - he inherited a much better squad than Sam did!
    Happy New Year!”

lol 2 good ch a couple of decent young keepers and a young cm. thats what sven inheristed.

granted he spent some money but he plays a system that suits the players he has, and has made it easier by playing football on th deck for his foriegn lads to adapt.

we also beat him to signing faye apparently so you cant say he outdid us completly in the transfer market.

  21. Nick Dryden Says:

    Drago
Never wanted SBR and KK sacked.
It was great football. Only those blindly faithful to Shepherd’s appointment of a 5th rate manager in Allardyce would not question the rubbish we are getting now at every match. I don’t know if that makes us w…..s, probably just a bit more discerning and wanting to see better.
Sam is too stubborn to change a system even though we have some half decent players. If as a manager, you don’t have a plan B, you don’t have anything. Sam says he has been missing Owen. What a hypocrite. Whenever Owen plays he is completely starved of the ball on the deck.
Would love to see Edgar play again. Brought the ball out of defense and looked really assured as well as stopping Ronaldo in his tracks playing at left back and even finding time to score!!

  22. shearyadi Says:

I see you are a bit tired Ed? Don’t work too hard, just write when there’s something is necessary or need a ballance of view. Don’t push yourself to write an article in every hour :)

  23. Tom_Toon Says:

UTD111 - ‘Errikson - he inherited a much better squad than Sam did!’ - Thats the most dumb thing ive ever heard in my life, the squad he inherited had a few good young players he rest were languishing and possible relegation candidates.

  24. Howie Says:

we were also languishing around the relegation area last season

  25. Tom_Toon Says:

our players had much more potential than man city’s they just needed the right manager to bring it out of them.
