Some Players Could Leave Newcastle in January

The transfer window opens up today, so it seemed appropriate to ask Big Sam if anybody would be leaving the Tyneside club.

Sam Allardyce – is anybody leaving Newcastle in January?

Sam told the Newcastle Journal today:

“We have no offers from anyone so it is a ‘no’ at the moment,” “It would have to be a very lucrative offer for anyone to move away from the club unless someone tells me they do not want to stay.”

“I am putting players forward to the chairman and decisions will be made from there,” “I was never given an indication of a budget in the summer. We went from player to player and it will be similar in January.”

“I said in the summer the transfer window is not an enjoyable time because of the uncertainty surrounding players and the constant speculation about players arriving and leaving, but January is even worse.”

“ It is in the middle of the season, there are games coming thick and fast and you are also trying to conduct your transfer business in frenzy because of the constraints put on you by the transfer window.”

We would expect Shola Ameobi and Stephen Carr to be two players we could move out of the club, if some decent offers are received this month. Carr’s contract is up in June and Shola isn’t even involved on the subs’ bench these days, and cannot be very happy at his future prospects at the club. Also, Matty Pattison could move permanently to Norwich City, if a suitable deal can be worked out with Glenn Roeder.

We expect some announcement shortly that Newcastle have officially signed Ben Tozer, the 17 year-old from Swindon Town, and we expect Wesley Ngo Baheng, an 18 year old striker from Le Havre, the French second division side, to move to the club soon.

Comments welcome.

Great some fantastic Korean player who isn’t wanted by his J-League club! Who is described as being a weaker Ameobi, riveting stuff!

I think Sam did OK in the transfer market last time – the squad needed strengthening and he hit the right areas. Some players like Smith, Faye, Beye, Viduka hit the ground running whilst others are taking time to adjust. Sam might just pull a few surprises out of the bag!
    Happy New Year!

I think he’ll buy. I think a creative midfielder a right winger,a left and a right back and i know i’m being greedy now but a centre forward,it’s not too much to ask is it?

I think there is money but there is no budget, if sam likes a player he has to put it to mort and ashley and they decide whether the money will be released for the player or not, as Sam said it will go from player to player.

How about signing Jefferson Farfan from PSV, he is not playing well for them at the moment (along with the rest of the team) and if it carries on we might be able to nick him. He is what we need, good passer, fast, powerful etc

I think we are strong enough in defence, but it could be a struggle when we lose players to the African Cup. Arshevin, the Russian captain seems a good buy, but a good CF would be great to see!!!!

Good point Dragoner, there are some quality players in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The likes of Farfan, Affelay, Heitinga, Emmanuelson, Huntelaar, Jenner, Dembele, Koevermans, all look quality players.
However the stumbling block is wether they would adapt to the Prem. In 90% of cases the answer is no they wouldnt, in the remaining 10% maybe half of those would take a good 4 or 5 months to settle in, the big job, and the reason managers are paid so much is finding the odd gem who would go straight into the squad.
Players like Van Persie, Robben and Van Nistlerooy havem, in the past adapted with ease whilst the likes of Bouma at Villa have taken a little longer to settle in.
Other players like Kezman who signed for Chelsea from PSV never really make the grade and this is what we need to avaoid, Allardyce needs to do his homework and use his knowledge and contacts and decide which options would adapt best.
Koevermans in my opinion would slot straight into the squad. He is a big striker who played against us last season when he was at AZ, similar in stature to Viduka and a decent goal scorer.
Other platers like Dembele, Farfan and Heitinga would be good options however I think they would take time to adjust. Allardyce has had the same problem with several summer signings, Enrique and Rozehnal the two most notable.
You have to get it spot on in the January transfer window, the players you bring in have to be quality, you dont have the luxury of being able to bed them in, they need to be able to adapt quickly and be thrown in at the deep end, that is why Allardcye will target Prem players.
The trouble is the sort of players available with prem experience will not, in my opinion, improve what we already have.
The only realistic target I think is Kevin Nolan who would be an ideal replacement for Barton, in fact if you ask me, Nolan is a much better player and also would provide a genuine goal threat from midfield.

sam signed quality players? really? and who’s playing well of those he brought in? beye, faye, perhaps enrique and…that’s it…smith sucks, i expected more from viduka, barton’s an idiot, rozehnal and cacapa have quality, but they don’t play as well as they could (so that’s managers fault) ashley, don’t give sam any money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just sack him!!!!!! if he’s gone, we’ll already have a much better squad (even with no new signings).

I think Ameobi will be moved on. And as much as i want to see Carr go, i think we’ll keep him for cover as i can’t see us getting a new RB. That is unless Wes Brown is signed, in which case he or Taylor etc can cover until Beye is back.

Like the idea of Kevin Nolan, but he won’t get many touches with the ball punted over his head all day long and so he won’t make much of a difference.

Number 1 signing should be crouch as he’ll fit straight in and is a much better foil for owen / martins than viduka. Then look to someone like wes brown – a first 11 centre half, not a squad player like cacapa or rozy. Only then should we look at a playmaker, or right winger to rest and backup milner. (Oh and if we get an offer for Geremi, get rid of him too.)

Understand both Brown and Shorey may be available, two proven Prem.defenders and if Chelski are not in for Anelka grab him, would match up well with either Owen or Martins.
    How does this look,
    Given
    Brown Cacapa Taylor Shorey
    Milner Beye /Smith Nzogbia/Emre Duff
    Viduka /Anelka Owen/Martin
This is a team that could get us into the Euafa tournament, but by no means the finished article .
