Newcastle Need Win Tonight For The Fans

Newcastle have an excellent chance to get the year off to a very good start tonight, against 5th-placed Manchester City, by not only putting on a good performance but by capturing all 3 points. And if they cannot think of a good reason to do that, they only have to think of their magnificent fans.

All players should give 100% tonight for Newcastle’s Magnificent Fans

Sam Allardyce spoke in his plain down to earth language, when he talked to the Evening Chronicle earlier this afternoon initially about the disappointment last Saturday at Chelsea:

“It was a big blow for us all, but we can’t let it affect our confidence.” “We’ve got Manchester City now, and we’ve got to make sure we are on top form.”

“The fans were great at Stamford Bridge, but the Christmas period has been bitterly disappointing for us all.” “There have been so many points available but we’ve let so many of them slip.”

“None of it was our fault against Chelsea, but at Wigan it was and certainly we conceded two very sloppy goals against Derby and didn’t win. We only had ourselves to blame.”

“We were very consistent in the first nine or 10 games this season, then had a dodgy spell.” “Then we came back again and lost to Wigan, which was only our first defeat in five.”

“We’ve now got to keep the confidence level up and performances to that standard, or above it.”

But it’s up to the lads tonight to turn up for the game and to give of their very best for their faithful fans. The outcome will depend on some familiar factors:

  • The defense has to be at its very best and not give away sloppy goals
  • We have to start taking our half chances up front when they present themselves
  • We have to have both bite and creativity in our midfield
  • The fans need to support the lads for 90 minutes come hell or high water

That’s what it will take to get all 3 points tonight against an in-form Blues side, and we can certainly do it. We expect a win tonight and a good display from the lads. That’s laying it on the line, but it’s also the very least our faithful and magnificent supporters deserve.

If our players cannot raise their game for the fans, then they’re not the brave and gutsy bunch we think they are.

Come on the lads!

Comments and opinions on the game are very welcome.

Ed – Sam never puts bite and creativity in our midfield, its only ever bite and bite.

However ive got to say Butt has imporved immensly on his long and short passing since the beginning of the season.

It works both ways!!! The players need to play well to lift the supporters – unfortunately this has only happened on the odd occassion, notably against the Gooners.

I will be there tonight as usual i just hope some of this doom and gloom can be lifted with a win. If we lose tonight and then against Stoke on Sunday i’m afraid that will spell the end of Sam.
