Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce makes just one change to the side which lost 2-1 at Chelsea on Saturday, with Mark Viduka replacing the injured Alan Smith, who suffered from concussion on Saturday.
So Nicky Butt will wear the captain’s armband with Newcastle in a 4-4-2 formation with Australian Mark Viduka partnering Oba Martins in attack. Michael Owen is again named among the substitutes, after being out a full six weeks with a thigh injury.

Former Newcastle midfielder and German International, Dietmar Hamman starts for Manchester City.

Hey, it’s a 4-4-2. That’s a good sign. And Smudge ain’t even on the bench. That oughta make some people happy. The important thing is a very solid performance. That’ll give SA encouragement to try something other than the 4-3-3 we all know and hate.

2 holding midfielders seems tobe the in thing in football atm , all the talk of having to change tactics in football in recent years to adapt .
personnally i find having two midfielders like butt and faye in the centre , at sjp , offensive .
emre should be in place of one of those .

Not a bad side but why isn’t Emre Playing? Where is the creativity gonna come from in Mid field? Why are we playing 2 defensive midfielders? Butt and Faye are hardly gonna worry Sven and his team with their array of pin point passing. Saying that i just wanna get behind the boys Come on lets get at em

Yeah, I’d like to see that too. Hopefully we won’t see Emre because there will be no need to bring him on. 🙂

He’ll probably come on in the 60th minute and hopefully he’ll have an impact. We need to utilize him more. Butt’s passing just isn’t good enough. Faye’s service in the DM role seems much better from what I’ve seen (the Chelsea game).

yah i think having faye as dm can release butt and give him freedom as he is one of our top scorer in midfield.lmao

I hate Nicky Butt. I saying this before the game has even started. He will run, fight and tackle, but he can´t pass the ball forwards or create something. I want emre on the pitch! Som real creativity! to defensive with Butt and Faye in the middle. Just wait and se. Think that it´s going to be hard getting something out of this one. I want to keep Sam for at least a few years, and I´m sure he´ll get us back on track.

    But as always;
    Howay the lads!!

Not a bad team. At some point there will come two or three changes. Enrique for Butt, Emre for Duff, and Owen for Martins

    A win!!!!! Go Toon!

Confirmed as working good (me and some mates all watching)

For those that aren’t savvy on this stuff… just Download sopcast from here:
    http://cnc1.sopcast.com/download/SopCast.zip

    Install sopcast

Then copy and paste the link at top into your browser and the stream will open automatically in the sopcast program … but be patient, it can take up to 5 mins for the stream to start.

    Enjoy!

@Ed – sorry if this is against ur regs mate… delete it if you must, but the need of the many outweight the few quid some of us cant afford 😉
