Ben Haim Will Cost Newcastle £2M – Buy Him

Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has had his request to take defender Tal Ben Haim on loan for the rest of the season rejected by Chelsea, but he’s still available for a £2M transfer fee.

ben-haim-22.jpg

Tal Ben Haim – 39 times capped Israeli available for £2M

Instead, Allardyce has been told the 6’1″ Israeli can leave Stamford Bridge for a £2M fee. Chelsea got Ben Haim from Bolton for free during the summer, as Big Sam tried to persuade the Israeli international to move with him to Tyneside. A £2M profit on a player who’s been at the club less than 6 months is a lot of money.

Allardyce has been given some transfer funds to spend in the January transfer window, but £2M is an inflated price for a defender who is only a squad player at Stamford Bridge. But it looks like Chelsea are willing to let him go in January, since they have recently brought in Branislav Ivanovic from Lokomotiv Moscow.

Ben Haim is an experienced Premiership player who has played for Sam for 3 years at Bolton, and we think, although £2M is a bit inflated, it would still be good business for the club, given the circumstances we find ourselves in. We think Tal Ben Haim can help us in defense.

Sam should sign him, quickly, and if we can also get Wes Brown from Manchester United, he would also help us in a big way. Both players can play anywhere across the back-line and have stacks of premier experience. That’s what we need right now and the more clean sheets we can get before the end of the season the better we will do in the league.

What do you think?

I think Brown is a better signing and can play both RB and CB, but we desperately need a LB. How many times did we get exposed by teams from our right because N’Zogbia kept losing discipline?!

Given the time they worked together at Bolton, Sam will know whether he would be worth getting.

He is no better than what we have, very prone to make Titus like mistakes, i say no we need better than this.
While Wes i think will be a solid signing as long as he stays injury free.

Happy to have Wes Brown if we could get him but Haim hasn’t looked that good to me at Chelsea this season. Too many mistakes, too many fouls given away & no better than what we have at CB

brown over ben haim has been doing class all season with man yo nearly has as many apps as vidic and ferdinandihno in hte best defense in the premiership do it sam get him soon and then give the strikers and kick up the arse and point them in the direction of the goals

BS knows him well, which doesnt inspire much confidence. And we already have a LB we just dont play him very often. Looking at how we shaped up for Citeh I think the design concept may be 3 at the back, Taylor Cacapa and Faye, with Zog and Beye playing wing back if anyone remembers Alf Ramsey. Thats why they spend so much time going forward. And why the team look so confused.

Definitely Brown over Ben Haim! And definitely ONLY ONE of them!! We need some fresh faces somewhere else in the squad (AM perhaps) as it seems stagnant outside of defence.

We dont really need a LB (Enrique and Zog), we dont really need a RB (Taylor can play there as we have enough CBs fit – Carr as emergency backup….remember, Beye is only away for four matches).

CBs in abundance so if we get Wes Brown in then we’re sorted.

I say try and get shot of Geremi to whoever wants him, and get in an AM to alterante with Butt and Emre.

Enrique has been Pish when we played. He can barely get on the bench, so obviously having trouble adapting to Premiership and England. He needs time, but we still need another LB. Zog is no good at LB and leaves us open. Matt Taylor or Riise would be ideal as both can play LB and LM, which would give all players plenty of opportunities to play at some point!

Yes go for Brown and we need a creative midfielder for sure.

Ben haim decided to go to chelsea over us for the money and turned down an oppurtunity to play for the man who made him who he is today. Not the type of player we need.

Forget this guy, he can warm the flippin bench down at chelsea once the big boys come back. He is a twat, no loyalty, he is a flippin mercenary. Anyway, screw Chelsea, they get him for free, realise he is no good, then try SELL him to us, they can f*ck off!

not interested, turned us down for chelsea in the summer, either expecting to get a regular game (was never going to happen) or just wanted the money. has looked awful there and im fed up of getting other peoples cast offs. abramovich isnt keeping chelsea afloat, we are!

duff, parker, babayaro, geremi… not one of these has made the grade here

i am afraid as fans were are just p1ssing against the wind

Tom Tom ….Enrique was immense the other night?? What game were you at? He was complete and utter pants when he came on. So one footed and took an age to get the ball on his left foot when turning inside. For a big bloke he also cannot tackle. I for one can see why Sam doesn’t play him.

ben haim is decent… i would have the lad, we need depth if we want to get anywhere, i agree with utd111 sam worked with him for years so will know if he’s good enough..

on enrique he is a quality left back, and he does look good when he plays, i agree with tom toon he was good wen he came on. the only reason he doesnt get played is coz of the language barrier, you saw on wednesday wen he came on a translator had to rebuff his instructions coz terry mac couldnt communicate properly

with sams pitch language policy he wants him to speak english, he just hasnt grasped it yet, watch him grow he will be great do feel we need another mind competition is not a bad thing

Some really good points on the Ben Haim saga, I innitially thought 2mil would be a decent price for a Prem experienced, and International defender but after reading some of these comments I have to agree, if the lad wanted to play for us he would have come in the summer, if he had any sort of loyalty to Allardyce he would have come in the summer and finally if he was any good Chelsea would not be looking to flog him! Great points – forget him.
My opinion of Enrique is that he has bags of potential, OK he hasnt lit up the Prem as of yet but to be fair to the lad he hasnt been given a run in the side. I think Stoke on Sunday could be his big chance, if he plays well Allardyce will surely have to keep him in the side.
Finally new signings, Id say no to Brown, agree we have better options at the club without bringing in another 50k-a-week average player, a big no to Riise, better options in N’Zogbia, Duff etc but would agree with Appiah (sp?), brilliant player, workhorse and IMO would fit right in English football, trouble is he wouldnt be available to play till Feb would he?
Arshavin also great player, great skill and a good organiser. In fact the Russian side looks brimming with talent, the Berezutsky twins both look class defenders, Ignashevich look a solid defender too and Bilyaletdinov looks a very promising midfielder.
Other players such as Kahlenberg, Affelay, Ivantschitz, Heitinga, Emmanuelson all worth a look and IMO would improve the team.
I know its silly season for rumours etc but I honestly believe a few new faces with a bit of class would work wonders for the team spirit, but then again I have spent the last 30 years or so being optomistic and usually end up dissapointed and dissillusioned, and then there was Marcelinho………

I don’t rate Ben Haim at all

and about Enrique, while promising, seems to still lack the explosiveness in pace to adapt to the EPL. Sure he’ll come right as the season progresses as long as he gets game time to learn and as long as he has mentors (good ones) around him

How about we let our most creative player play as a creative midfielder and let our 6 mill LB play there as well. Enrique and Zog are both class and should be given the chance to shine in the natural postions.
