It looks like Newcastle United have made a couple of moves into the transfer market today. One is for Wes Brown and the other is for an unknown player, currently at an English club.
Wes Brown – definite target for Newcastle – but who is our other target?
One bid is for Wes Brown, Manchester United’s utility defender, who is thought to fancy coming to Tyneside, and join up with two of his former team-mates, Alan Smith, who is now club captain and Nicky Butt, who captained the side in Smith’s absence on Wednesday evening.
It is also understood, however, that Newcastle have an additional bid in for a player with an English club. Exactly who that is, we’re not too sure, but it isn’t Tal Ben Haim of Chelsea. Sam was interested in bringing the Israeli to Tyneside on loan for the rest of the season. However, Avram Grant has today turned down that possibility, and now wants £2M for a player Chelsea picked up for nothing in the summer.
Sam may pass on the opportunity to get Ben Haim but a lot will depend on the eventual availability of Wes Brown. If Sam can tie up Brown, we think he may well pass on Ben Haim, at least for now. We don’t have too much information right now on who the other target is, but a definite bid has been placed with his club, by Newcastle United today.
Wes Brown, whose contract expires in June, has turned down a new £50K/week deal at Old Trafford, but it is understood that Newcastle are willing to increase that offer, to have the experienced defender join Newcastle United..
Newcastle have put something into the bank coffers today, following their sale of 21 year-old midfielder Matty Pattison to Norwich City but we cannot believe that can be much more than £1M.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #43Sam likes the kind of defense that sits back…and the type of midfield that sits back…and the type of strikers that sit back…
…Why can’t he figure out that none of that equals goals and wins? What is this Seire A?

Comment #49My Uncle is best mates with Tottenham Legend Gary Mabutt, my Uncle used to play a bit of ball himself as a lad but did his knee in at a young age, Gary told him the other day that Tottenham will sell Berbatov to Liverpool and to replace him and Defoe (Off to Portsmouth 6.75 million) with none other than Ronaldo of AC Millan Free and Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Straight swap for King and £5 million, this was CONFIRMED as my Uncle is now manager of Lidl in Hackney and saw Daniel Levy and Gus Poyet in the Cafe opposite SHAKING HANDS and SMILING, with the pair of them.
TRUST ME ON THIS IM IN THE KNOW,,, Remember where you heard it First, Tottenham to win the League. (next year)

SA is taking about the fact that joey may play again ‘before his court date’ i say wait and see and then not let him play is the business savvy way to go about it for the good of our tainted image

Comment #57yup – Audley Harrison is gonna play in midfeild in place of Barton and Smith as at least when he tackles he’ll knock the opposition out sparko rather than just kick him in the goolies and get a yellow card

Comment #58i remember a article when mike ashley bought the club saying he wants to buy a world class player with a imence record. Sum 1 like deco and now we are supposed to be buying kevin nolan. nolan isnt better than any midfielder we have in my opinion i dont think sam knows what he is doing as he hasent had this kind of money to spend before. his buys so far have been rubish

Comment #80Well Nolan would be good, If our strikers cannot get goals, then we need a midfielder that can. Tim Cahill would be a coup Santa cruz would be ACE that dude is like Ruud Van Nistelrooy. He scores Goals and is very good at it. Nolan, Santa Cruz and Ben Haim. Out Martins because he would fetch a lot of money, certainly enough to add on to what Sam has been given. Brown would be good but I think MAn united would not let him go for less than 5 Mill. I read Chelsea would sell Ben Haim for 2 Mill. Rumor but that would be a bargin if that were true.
