Newcastle’s Reported Interest in Alan Hutton

Newcastle United are only one of a number of leading clubs tracking Glasgow Rangers’ full-back Alan Hutton, according to The Times today.

Alan Hutton – Rangers star in big demand in England

The £8M rated Scotland international, who played brilliantly for Scotland in their recent heroics in trying to qualify for the European Championships, has reportedly recently turned down a move to Tottenham. Manchester United are also said to be monitoring the situation.

The 23 year-old Rangers right back has played 92 times for Rangers and scored 2 goals and played for his country Scotland 6 times. Alan stands 6’1” tall and it seems only a matter of time before he ends up playing the Premier league, but exactly which club he will sign for, remains open to question.

We think that left back is the position we need to strengthen more than right back, where Habib Beye is playing very well right now. We also have other players, like Steven Taylor, who can fill in admirably at right back.

What do you think?

Should we be trying to sign Alan Hutton given our other priorities?

Let us know – comments and opinions welcome.

He wants to go to United aparently. So we would have to pay massive wages to get him. Great player but we have Beye who will play as right back for the next few years. If we’re going to spend 8-10 million on a defender make it a central one.

we’ll never get him, and if he was the slightest bit interested id advise him to stay with rangers, sam has put us in such a state.

It looks very unlikely he’ll be moving anywhere now but I’m scared at the thought of Carr playing at right back in Beye’s absence at African Cup of Nations duty. As you said in the article, hopefully Sam will see sense and put Taylor there, but its not Taylor’s best position by any means. Sam will probably play Owen at right back!

No way he will come and no way Ashley would pay 8 mil for him if he would come.

Thought Spuds had wrapped this up for 8 million already?

I actually don’t think we need him – Beye is playing superbly at the minute, and Taylor can slot into the right back position when needed.

What we need is a class central defender.

Mort can only buy players that are on Sam’s list. If Hutton isn’t one of them then its a no go

A little off topic here, but I just read a report that made me wonder if SA should be given the time… I have always thought he should be given atleast 2 seasons, cuz the club was in SUCH a state when he came, all he can do is stabalise us.
Anyway, A little known manager by the name of Ottmar Hitzfeld is out of contract in the summer, and his club (Bayern) will not be re-newing it… I remember a campain to get him as manager when Souness was sacked, who would be willing to start that up again?! Just check out the mans CV… make Alex Fergeson look like a football manager wannabe……

we probly dont need a right back. unless he is a 20 year old to come through when beye gets older

our defence when beye and faye are away could be this

    Enrique (heres hoping) LB
    Rozenhal CB
    Cacapa CB
    Taylor RB

if needs be have Charlie at left back. but i really hope not.

I stay in scotland and have saw a lot of Hutton, hes great going forward but he is nothing amazing in a fedending sense, i think we could do alot better for 8-10 million to be perfectly honest! Id rather see us strengthen the left back option also, if we are going to spend 10 million in scotttish football – Aiden McGeady, excellent young winger, competition for Milner and only 21!

Haha, sorry Hammy defending! Think we might need to teach Stephen Carr a bit of martial arts tho when Habib Beye is away to keep the opposition at bay!

Would be a good signing at 4 or 5 million. Forget 8 million. Although Manure want to sell us Wes Brown so they can use the money to buy Hutton. Why not over step them, forget Brown, and go after Hutton anyway just to piss them off

I reckon he’d be a great signing. Would be like the times of old when the Toon used to sign the best of Scottish talent.
Beye is getting on a bit and he’s buggering off to Africa soon anyway. We need cover cos Carr aint up to the job. I say get your chequebook out Cashley – you’re sposed to be the 25th richest bloke in the UK are you not?

Tom Tom seems to be pushing for Deschamps – he’d be a great manager and would sort out our defence…….after all he bought Boumsong from us AND gave us some money. He must have tremendous scouts.

    Yep lets get him in????

Juve fans still wish they had him, not Ranieri.

Tom Tom made him good again?? He never was any good mate – he was a shocking centre back and anyone who touched him after we had him is no manager I would want. As far as I know Boumsong hasn’t figured much in Juve’s 1st eleven – I may be wrong ………. please feel free to check his stats – but I did look in his 1st season and he hardly played.

There really are some ridiculous management suggestion by people who don’t follow through the sack Sam debate. I’m not saying you are one ….but as an example on my way back from the City game I tuned into the Radio 5 live after match phone in. Some muppet phoned …sack Sam and get…..David O’Leary. Really this sort of stuff makes our fans look like goons.
