Allardyce – We Need More Cutting Edge

Newcastle last night had a chance to win the tie at the death, when in the 3rd minute of injury time, Andrew Carroll had his shot from a wide angle hit the side netting.

Kazenga Lue Lua – 17 year-old looked a decent player last night

But all in all we are pleased Newcastle are still in the Cup after some scary moments in the second half last night.

Sam said after the game:

“I think we could have won it in the first half and the beginning of the second half, we could have lost it in 15 or 20 minutes midway through the second and could have nicked it at the end,”

“Not scoring when we had clear-cut opportunities (in the first half) was the disappointing thing. It meant when the pressure did come we had a little bit more to withstand.”

“It got a little bit desperate at one point but we got through that and then one of our local boys could have been the hero in the last minute, but Andy Carroll slid the ball wide of the far post instead of just inside it.”

The replay will be a week on Wednesday, 16th January, and Allardyce felt it was the least his side deserved as he continued:

““It was a horrible night weather- wise but a good performance from both sides,” “In the main we coped with most of what Stoke had to offer.”

“We controlled the game for long periods but couldn’t find the cutting edge.”

We are hoping that Michael Owen will find some goals for Newcastle in the next few games, but he’s out so much that almost every time he plays now he is short of match practice. But it was pleasing to see both Andrew Carroll and Kazenga Lua Lua introduced last night. Lua Lua was making his first team debut and looked a decent player. We’re glad Sam is giving a chance to some of our up and coming youngsters.

Comments very welcome.

its been 7 days now and we still havnt signed anyone. maybe he wont be getting any money for a creative mid, maybe he cant find one, maybe there arnt any available.

still he shouldve been looking into it and asking around BEFORE the window opened.

I’ve been talking to a Russian guy and it seems like Arshavin is another Barton like hot-head. Anyways chances are slim right now that we sign him but still….

This is what he said :

“A few weeks ago, Arshavin got a three-match ban for hitting an opponent in the match vs Andorra. After that I started disliking him even more. Hiddink, Russia’s coach, said that it’s possible that he won’t pick Arshavin for Euro 2008 which would be a big hit for him. I judge players not only on their skills but also on their mentality. It’s my opinion. If he transfers to Newcastle you will have your opinion on him and it may be the same as my one or you may keep your old one.”

a few transfer rumours….funny and not so :

“Apparently Edmilson is on his way too Newcastle United, the Barcelona star has fell down the pecking order at Camp Nou and would be interested in a move away to the Premiership. Deco has also hinted at a move to the Premiership is attractive as he also is no longer first Choice at Barcelona, Manchester United and both Chelsea are both reportadly keen on the Portugese Playmaker.”

the second part if this is brilliant 😀 :

“Newcastle are planning a £14million bid on Werder Bremen playmaker Diego, i am a sunderland fan with links to the Newcastle United club, and big Sam has made enquireies on diego 4 times since his reign. Also he is interested on bringing Titus bramble back to st. James’ park for around £4.5million since Mike Ashley says he will do what it takes to ensure Newcastle will stay in the premiership, avoiding the Leeds saga.” lol

also not really concerning us :

“Manchester City are set to make Brazilian playmaker Diego from Werder Bremen their first “big name” signing this transfer window, heard it first from my mate Nedum Onuoha who has told me it’s a done deal when he arrives tomorrow morning.”

these are NOT from footbal- 😀

totally unrelated comment, but just wondered – is anyone else really sick of watching nicky butt take pot shots from 30 yards? Seriously, I feel like I am watching a footballing remake of groundhog day, in which I am doomed to see the ball bounce out to the edge of the box, and – instead of being laid off to the wingers, or threaded into a waiting mark viduka/alan smith – it is cannoned into the lower stratosphere. Seriously, shouldnt someone either a) tell him he cant shoot for s***, and suggest a pass, or b) suggest that if he wants to keep bidding for goal of the month he actually practice his shooting? Failing that, and seeing how many of these situations are wasted, why dont we change formation so that someone with a half decent boot is on the edge of the box? How many goals do opponents score against us because a rebound/clearance falls to Elano/Giles Barnes/Noe Pamarot etc etc. Why dont we ever score these goals?

Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest as it has been depressing me.

seriously? I thought enrique looked quite decent! Although maybe I was just comparing him to comedy rozehnal on the other flank.

As for taking a shot I see what you mean steve, but do you not think those situations might be better used – perhaps he lays the ball off to zog/milner etc or does something useful with it?

And if it is training ground for us to have a man running onto the edge of the box to pick up these shooting opportunities, why not make it alan smith/barton/emre, who are all massively more likely to stick it in the net? Hell even geremi would be more likely to get the ball on target (or at least keep it less than forty feet off the ground)…

if we lack cutting edge, go and buy some ffs.
i check every website thinkable for genuine transfer news every day, and i’m never seeing newcastle’s name mentioned.
if i am, its in rumours regarding players we could quite easily do without.
dont moan about it sam, if you know what we lack, solve the problem and go find the solution.

Wake up and smell the coffee lads , we was outplayed in just about every department by a side 5th in the championship we NEVER yes NEVER tested the keeper in the second half. I think that the Stoke sub was right , they fancy their chances at SJP if they can silence the crowd early on . Lets be truthful the fickleness of the fans at the moment , an early goal for Stoke and we could crumble we looked so vulnerable . Stoke should have scored a couple mis second half .
BFS is a dead man walking you can see the carrion circling the leazes as I write !
