Sam Complaining About Too Many Games

Sam Allardyce, the Newcastle manager is still unhappy at the demands being placed on his players, after five games in a fortnight, Newcastle now have a six-day break before taking on Manchester United at Old Trafford, which Allardyce feels is not enough time to recover from last night’s tremendous effort from his players.

Sam Allardyce – too many games for Newcastle – surely not

But Newcastle have a very light schedule this season, compared with the English clubs in Europe, and we’ll not play many more than about 42 games or so, depending on how far we get in the FA Cup. We played around 56 games last year when we reached the UEFA Cup, and we had a lot more injuries last year too.

But Sam still thinks there should be a winter-break in England and said today:

“The new lads here think it is crazy that everyone else has a break and we don’t,”

“It was our fifth game in two weeks. It is a ludicrous situation to be in. It is an over-demand on high-performing athletes, that is very dangerous indeed.”

“It is too much to ask of players over the Christmas period. It would be nice to reach this point and have a two-week break, as we should do.”

If we do have a winter break there will still be lots of congestion for the teams, especially those in Europe. We shouldn’t really be complaining about all the games we are having. It’s nothing compared to the Manchester Uniteds and Arsenals of this world, and we don’t hear them complaining too much. They just get on with it.

What do you think?

Comments very welcome.

He’s complaining about the games because each time we take to the field we look hopeless and everyone laughs at how bad we’ve become. At least if we had fewer games in Sam’s eyes, we only look crap for 50 games a season and not 60.

if 6 days for a premier league match is not enough , then he is not our manager. true we;ve got a small squad, but its his fault, he should hav siggned player’s for that. btw 1 pt from the festive holiday season is disaster and the management should give him a stick for that. look at liverpol pressurising rafa benitez.

He never stops complaining and i think he is trying to put the blame on thw winter for our woeful results. He never stops complaining and i was in shock when i read he is gutted that butt is injured.Butt was awful and to bad birmingham didnt stay up when he looked to be leaving.

I am sick of hearing his excuses, he actually praised the team last night and apart from taylor and faye(were class) the team were not up to par and i cant believe i saw newcastle united FC trying to CONTAIN stoke. Now we have an extra game without beye, faye and martins.Play some of the youngsters what we are missing is hunger in midfield!

“It is an over-demand on high-performing athletes” Any idea where he’s on about? lol

The thing is every team in the EPL are in similar positions if not worse off (having more games to play in Europe).

I’d love a job where I got paid obscene amounts of money, could whine to the media everyday AND not be very good at my job.

    BSA to do list: MOAN
    moan about injuries
    moan about players
    moan about officials
    moan about ACN
    moan about other international games
and most important MOAN SOME MORE.
(note to self) find new things to maon about.

    Life’s a biatch.

It’s quite amusing when you look back at when he was saying how good it was with the international breaks and how it would give our lads a chance to gel. Did I miss something???

I’m searching a hidden camera around my computer. This can’t be serious, what kind of excuses does he give. He is one big excuse and is more occupied about finding new excuses than start to build his team.

Allardyce is no where near as bad as souness or roeder, people seem to be so overeacting. the fact is we havent been qualifying for europe since bobby and its obvious financially everything went to shit as well. IT IS GOING TO TAKE TIME until we become a force like we were before.

he hasnt even been in a year, how can he have had a proper inpact on a club that was in such a mess in that time? if in a years time we are still in the same position and things arent moving forward then fine but to be honest they already look better than the last couple of years.

and please dont give me that man city rubbish! their club was in no where near as much of a mess as ours and eriksson is doing exactly what we used to, bringing in big money foreigners based on reputation, we tried that and it failed and i would bet big money the same will with them. he has been lucky with elano fitting in so well and i wouldt be surprised if he moves on to a bigger club soon anyway.

Ya, I’m sorry like but it’s the same for everyone. It’s just moan, moan, moan, injuries, results, refs, players, matches. Christ like, we’ve had it worse. A lot worse. If he spent half the time that he spends moaning on things like training and such maybe we wouldn’t have such a problem.

And this thing about our defense yesterday, ya they were good, well better then before, but I’d go a lot further and say at a lot of the time, lucky. Bloody lucky. But you ride your luck when you can.

My comments come too late to be read by anyone (they will all be in beddy-byes by now) but I did see the full Times article – which was much longer than the bits Ed put in his summary – and I thought it made a lot of sense. If you have time seek it out at Timesonline. It’s not just about Newcastle – in fact it’s mostly about the way the game has changed and how a Phil O’Donnell situation is more common now. The game is much more physically demanding and yet players are still being required to play 5 games in the Xmas fortnight. I think he’s right. I’ve been around long enough to recognise the difference. And those who run home from school and play footy till Mum calls them in for their tea (see earlier) really aren’t in a position to comment, bless them. Sweet dreams…….
