Emre’s Time Looks Up at Newcastle

It looks like Sam Allardyce may be ready to let Turkish International Emre leave Newcastle United, since the Turk has struggled to get starts under Big Sam.

emre-scores.JPG

Emre – is he really going to leave Newcastle?

Emre is struggling to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Manchester United but there are a number of clubs that would be willing to take the Turk, including Bayern Munich, his old club Galatasaray and Monaco.

We wouldn’t be too happy to see Emre go, because he has the class that can turn games, which is something not all teams in the Premiership have. Especially those in the lower half of the table – which may be telling us something. Exactly who Sam will replace the creative midfielder with will be interesting, because we don’t want him replaced with a Butt or Geremi type player.

Sam talked today about letting players go:

“I do not want to lose any players really, but I’m in the same boat as everyone else,” “If a large enough offer is made for one of my fringe players, and we can use the money to bring in a replacement who will strengthen the side, we will look at it. “

“It all depends on how much is offered and who else is available.” “I certainly do not want to lose anyone and not replace them, we do not have a big enough squad to do that. It would have to be a sizable offer to tempt me.”

Sam cannot bring in just grunt players who will play 100% for the club but have no creativity whatsoever. That’s the type of team he built at Bolton, but he now has the funds to buy some good players and top sell the few creative players we have will just not do. We think it will be a dangerous move if Big Sam let’s Emre go in January, because he’s a skilled player and can still do a job at the club.

What do you think?

Please let us know – comments always welcome.

He has talent, no doubt, but how often do we see him use it?? Very rarely. When was the last time he ran a match for us??? I cant remember to be honest.

Selling him to bring in a younger, better player, one who is committed to playing week in, week out, has to be a good buy. I wont be that sad to see him go.

Well considering he’d rather play a centre-back, striker, fading old git or Geremi in the middle than someone who can pass the ball, sell defenders and open up games – I imagine we’ll be seeing a midfield of:

    geremi – faye – butt – smith

    utter crap.

When I were a lad, NUFC would rather sell a back-four than a creative player. instead we’ll end up with a back ten.

    disgrace.

Strange situation with respect to Emre. To some extent he has always flattered to deceive. It is hard to remember too many games where he has turned them in our favour (apart from that one!)

Hasn’t scored much and always seem to spend too much time on his backside near to the centre circle. Having said that he is a better footballer than some of the spanners that Sam has tried to play in centre midfield.

The truth of the matter is that we do need somebody better. However given Sams record in buying / deploying midfielders I suspect a turn for the worse if he goes.

Graeme – completely agree with you.

Considering how long he’s been here he should have cemented his place in the team if he was that good. But because he drifts in games he hasn’t been able to convince any manager since Souness that he should be an automatic choice.

I for one won’t be said to see him go. Remember he dragged Newcastle onto the front pages when he was racist towards another player.

Your time is up Emre – adios!

Oh dear. Why don’t we just rename ourselves Bolton Mk 2, as that’s all we’ll be once we get a defensive midfielder in to replace Emre.

I agree that he hasnt exatly set the premiership alight but i stilll believe hes our most talented midfielder and id pick him ahead of Butt, smith, Geremi, only a fully fit and focused Barton would get the nod over him. If its Emre or Nolan?? Emre for me all the way. Ithink hel go to Bayern tho and hit form over there

I will be sad to see him go because he is a player of real quality. He is nearing technically perfect! and he is an impact player. On a few occasions this season alone he has got us through some matches and we have won.
    examples:

Everton (h) 3-2: He scored 1 and set up another, he is the reason that we won.

Birmingham (h) 2-1: He came on could have had a penalty off his free kick and from the resulting corner put a brilliant set piece give Habib Beye the chance to win it.

Fulham (a) 0-1: He played a great play into Viduka who then got the ball to smith who won the penalty.

He has had a big part in getting Newcastle 9 points from there 26.

There is a reason he gets a warm welcome everytime he comes on the pitch. I think that most Newcastle fans would want him to stay.

James: If he is to be replaced by Diarra, possibly a fair trade. I just hope we don’t end up paying over the odds for him. Aslo if Spurs are in the frame, I wouldn’t be too surprised if Diarra makes the short walk up the road.

i’ll be really sad to see emre go.
he has a bit of class. and lets be honest, at the minute thats the one thing we lack.
he hasnt reached full potential at the toon i’ll admit that, but he has had an impact in games that have turned out to be pretty important for us, and the fans love him.
diarra would be a good buy, but he’s not a creative midfielder, and thats what we need. bring in diarra if you can bsa, but bring in a creative player aswell.
if the swap ends up being emre out nolan in, i will be absolutly devestated however.

If did play Emre week in week out we’d see his class. Alan Smith has taken his job in midfield and he looks a less convincing midfielder than Emre. Emre may not be as strong, but he can pass the ball and we’ve been short of players that can do that this year. the only thing Smith has over Emre is strength and less proneness to injury ( which admiddedly in this club is a big attribute).

    Keep the Turk.

I agree with leo,he doesnt play him so its like we dont even have him.if sam buys a replacement at least thats another player he will actually play.Would have liked to have seen him more of him this season, but just goes to show if your not a confident team then you dont play attacking midfielders.

Some people just do not appreciate players who have real technical ability. I suppose it is an English football mentality thing, in the same Allardyce has his own views on what footballers ought to play like.

Emre is a true gem of a player! And I will guarantee that Newcastle will not find a more skilled or talented player to replace him. Diarra I hear people say? Give me a break!

I agree, why not Emre and Butt? Smith is not a midfielder, he’s a striker and would compliment Owen or Oba when Viduka isn’t around or unfit.

We are missing a goal scoring/creative midfielder but there’s one on the bench every week! and he’s scored and created more goals than Smith and had half the pitch time. Play Smith as a striker, forget that he plays midfield just as Ferguson did.

Fact is Emre has not made the impact which was expected. Personally I think its mainly due to his injuries, fitness, overall stature on the field and his consistency. He has talent, but he’ll shine in a less physical league.

Diarra has impressed me immensely, especially in the League Cup game against us. He’s very quick to close down and can pick a pass. With the right burturing, he could definitely be a better Box to Box player. IMO he;s a better player than Barton!

Emre’s class but with knacker Sam at the helm of our great club theres no hope for him.
So sorry Emre mate, thanks a bunch but better get you bags packed.
Diarra’s crap…so is Sam and so are most of his squad!
To be honest the only players i’d be arsed about keeping are Emre, Milner, Shay, Taylor. Carol, Zog maybe Duff (if he continues to improve) the rest really don’t float my boat.
Barton is an absolout tit…and deserves to rot!
He’s another over paid idiot that helps give our club is ever deminishing reputation.
i didn’t think we could get much worse but we seem to be crumbling away more and more evry year since fat Fred disgustingly sacked Sir Bobby!
Why do i still go to games…i seriously don’t know!?!
Please Mr Ashley FIX OUR CLUB!
Or TV land put shell suit wearing, cigar smoking, marathon running legend Sir Jimy Savel back on the telly…maybe he could help us.

Emre – technically is an outstanding player, but mentally i’m not so sure. I know people say that sam doesnt play him but he has never produced consistently, and fades in and out of games.

Maybe sam doesnt pick him due to his incorrect mental approach/attitude in that he may not be as hard working or applying himself in the right way. He is undeniably more creative than butt or smith but if he is not there mentally then he is useless to have on the pitch.

i have waited/wished for emre to achieve his potential here for years, but never done so for whatever reason, maybe shipping him out would be best for all concerned, as he may finally fulfil his potential in a different type of league.

dont get me wrong i dont like smith and butt as our central midfield even with 2 wingers, but think it my be better to sell emre and get diarra + a n other.

    Schlaudraff all the way.

Black Caesar – not if he is not there all game and not putting in the effort. yes i would rather have a creative midfielder in the team than smith or butt, but if emre is not gonna give it all his effort then there is not point in him playing so get rid of him and sign someone else. smith even tho he is not as skillful at least gives 100%, which i know is not enough, but its a start at least.

Ross – completely agree. If we sell Emre and replace him with Nolan i would be gutted.

I have been critical of Emre in the past as he tends to spend a lot of time on his arse in the centre circle – but he can pass a ball and create chances (albeit not often enough – but who can from the bench?)

But to replace him with Nolan – if that is what Allardyce is planning – is an utter disgrace. If Emre is to go, we need to replace him with someone with an attacking mind and an ounce of flair in order to relieve the pressure on our defence.

Emre……..not physically big enough for the EPL. Spends too much time on his backside or injured and hasn’t got pace.

The modern premier league midfielder needs to be big, strong, athletic and technically skilled – a 1st class example was Vierra when at Arsenal. I’ve never seen Emre boss a game and he’s lazy. I for one will not be sad to see him go. Another one of Souness’s ‘real players’.

If Bayern are interested, id try to swap Emre for Schlaudraff, id rather have an on form Emre, but when is that, Schlaudraff, can play as a big striker, hes a very attacking, goalscoring midfielder, 6ft 2 and a bit and isnt getting much playing time for bayern because hes competing with Luca Toni, Ribery and Schweinstiger, in his positions.

you cant expect him to play for 10-20 mins at the end of the game and do much.
hes a class player he needs to start.

Very sad if he should leave now. But to be fair, if I was Emre I would also go, cause here is aman called SA who has not handled Emre honnestly. The little Turk needs to play more games to get more involved in the game. If you always have to come on in a team which is not playing that good it is very hard and difficult for that player to get the team on the tracks.

I’m very scared that SA stays much longer as manager, cause which players will be coming in (Nolan might be the first 🙁 ).

I don’t get the Emre support on these boards. He has never produced 2 games in a row in the 3 seasons here. Constantly overhits through balls and rarely scores. Takes a decent corner and that’s it.

I’d rather have Robert. At least you know he’s gonna score around 8 a season and gives you 4 clear cut chances a match from crosses guaranteed. He may have been infuriating at times but he contributed towards, in either scoring or assists, 20 goals a season. We’d kill for a midfielder who could do that now.
