Who Will Take Over at Newcastle?

The shock news this afternoon that Sam Allardyce has left his post as manager of Newcastle United immediately asks the question – who will replace him?

Alan Shearer – odds on to replace Big Sam

With canny businessmen in charge like Chris Mort and Mike Ashley there is no way Sam has been dismissed without them already having agreed with somebody else to take over.

The big favorite has to be Alan Shearer since Mike Ashley has already said he would like to see Alan be manager of the club one day.

But there are at least a couple of excellent managers who are available that could do a great job at Newcastle. One is Jose Mourinho, although he is not allowed to manage a Premiership club until next season, which probably rules him out immediately.

The other world class manager available is German Ottmar Hitzfeld, who came back to manage Beyern Munich in January of last year, but has said he will not continue past this season. But that probably also rules him out unless Newcastle have made a deal with him and Beyern, which is doubtful.

The odds are on the new manager being Alan Shearer with former Luton Town manager Mike Newell coming with him as assistant manager.

But who do you think should take over?

Let us know – comments welcome.

What news; I’m glad this has happened. Things needed to change ASAP. Perhaps Emre will stay now at the Toon!!!

    Bring in one of these;
    1. Lippi
    2. Jol (who has a good chance of becoming our manager IMO)
    3. Mourinho would be fantastic, but too high I think 🙂
    4. Keagan with Shearer as his assistant.
    5. Sir Bobby Robson (but his health will not allow that)
    6. Pelligrini
    7. Rijkaard
    8. Adriaanse (who left his job if I’m correct)

One of the above would make me very happy….

I’m very surprised this has happenned today.

The timing of this for me is all wrong. We are going to miss out on our top transfer targets again, who is gonna come to a managerless team that’s right no one. Now what we need is a quick appointment but it needs to be a manager with a fabulous scouting network,an idea of how to play the game and an incrediable footballing brain, and Cahley and Mort have to back him and back him well, show us the money…. Well the Newcastle merry go round has started again, buckle up and enjoy the ride

Whoever it is they have already said yes to Mike Ashley, that’s why he has sacked the Fat Man now.

Personally I think it is going to be Martin Jol. But I think his tactics at Spurs were terrible.

From day one Ashley has wanted Shearer involved so I expect Shearer to be unveiled on Monday morning

I was just thinking of the change in form we had under the Roeder era. When he was only caretaker, but with Shearer as his assistant we would win most matches. But when Shearer left we started going down again.
I really think we should have someone experienced in the manager position, but he should for sure be accompanied by Shearer. I think his influense is very much bigger than what most people think!

lippi, rijkaard, klinsmann, prandelli, pellegrini, valverde, van gaal, advocaat, hitzfeld. some sensible some not so, but all good foriegn probably available, low compensation. most of the dutch ones are mad, even rijkaard looks like hes going to have a nervoius breakdown all the time.

ancellotti/mancini depending on which milan job mourinho gets.

coppell, redknapp, hughes, jol, represent the current lot who have pl experience and arnt tottall arses that we might have a chance getting.

tony mowbry, john collins two cheap options that like good football.

finally at the bottom of the list, the if all else fails break glass emergency option…

    alan shearer.

What about Pat Rice, assistant manager at Arsenal? Wenger’s apprentice must surely be wanting a manager job on his own, and as we know Ashley is a close friend of that director that left Arsenal some time ago. Mike and Pat should be known to each other. This could be our chance to get our very own Arsene Wenger for a small fee. Make Shearer his assistant or something and we’ll be the new pride of England!

Luiz Felipe Scolari- four years+ as Portugal boss. Madder than a box of frogs- which would appear to be the best state of mínd to have at SJP!

I would’ve expected the old regime to sack the current boss 9 days into the transfer window- spend a couple of weeks appointing a new gaffer (Alan Shearer), and then leave him a few days to sign anyone available at inflated prices.
I’m hoping this lot are a bit more switched on- and think they have their man already. Surely not Alan Shearer. Surely!
Has Ashley spent to long on the terraces- and started to believe that the Messiah is a bland BBC pundit!

OK he lacks experience but Sir Bobby with his wealth of experience was unable to bring a pot to the Toon.

Ed, read your headline and then explain. Does that mean that Mort and Ashley are muppets because NO replacement has been lined up. Shearer has said “NO” thank God for that and Redknapp is the favourite for the job. God Help us.

If this is the way forward, I think I will have to start supporting the smoggies – at least they act proffesssional in most cases while we are made to look like clueless idiots – perhaps thats what the board have become. Its a mindless decision and of no benefit to the club.
