HT:Manchester United 0 Newcastle 0 – Magpies Hang On

manchester-united-fc.png nufc-crest.png

Newcastle were a little lucky to be all square at half time at Old Trafford as they put in a dogged defensive display this afternoon.

The Newcastle line up seems to be 4-4-1-1 with Smith and Butt in midfield and the dangerous N’Zogbia playing just behind Owen up front.

Newcastle were a little lucky not to concede a penalty a couple of times especially when Smith seemed to knock Giggs off the ball.

But as usual at Old Trafford, the players and manager Alex Ferguson are trying to intimidate the referee into giving them a penalty but referee Styles is having none of it.

Surprisingly after 39 minutes Owen had the ball in the net but was flagged for offside. TV replays clearly showed Owen was onside and it should have been a Newcastle goal.

Shay Given is having another excellent game for the Magpies and his best save was from Ronaldo low to his right, but he has has made good saves from Rooney, who missed a number of chances, and Tevez,

At the back Taylor and Cacapa are doing well as are our two both full backs Enrique and Carr.

But as the half went on Manchester United piled on more and more pressure but the longer the lads can hold on through the second half, the better chance we will have.

Wonder when the last time any team got a penalty against Manchester at Old Trafford – years ago we would think. We just don’t like the way Ferguson and the Manchester United players are pestering the referee all the time. And of course the TV commentary is as though Newcastle were not even on the field, it’s so biased in favor of the Red Devils.

Well I was entertained the first half, now I’m turning it off.

Still no worries with this game, I don’t think anyone actually thought we would win this game.

Really like the look of Enrique. He’s strong and hard to beat 1 on 1 and he runs really well with the ball. Why was he sitting on the bench for months?

When we have a new manager in place it’ll be like having new players @ the club after ACN. Like for BSA with Duff back from injury.
Both Beye and Faye have impressed atleast.

We need cover in defense immediately. With or without a manager it’s vital we have cover, no decent RB or DM imo.

Why bring Milner off and leave Smith on the pitch when going to 4 4 2 ????

Smith is a waste of space – he’d be better served smacking the ref and getting a ban so that he can’t play again!

I don’t like Damien Duff. He’s not good enough and he’s too left footed.

Don’t really think Carr has played to badly today and is decent cover for Beye who is a class act imo. But at centre back Taylor and Faye are quality but Rozehnal and Cacapa are too weak and casual for English football.

I agree Andy, Enrique looks great up the wing, reminds me of what Beye has been doing a lot this season. I can’t wait till we don’t play a big 4 team and we can actually show our skill a bit more.

I’m just glad Pig Sam is gone. I agree we have to work on defense but he was totally ignoring other aspects of our team. In my opinion he will only ever be able to manage smaller clubs with no-name players. He’s a poor mans McLaren

3 nil. We aren’t even playing badly. The defence can’t cope with such good players. Also we give the ball away too easily in midfield because Smith and Butt are shit.

Fans chanting for Mr S now…

One of our biggest problems is that we invite their attack to come onto us – look at that last attack, we just ask them to come into the box, cross the ball why don’t ya, I give up. Chris Mort in the stands – you look pissed off mate – think how we feel son and sort something out by Monday FFS

Well I think it’s safe to say that we’ve lost this one now. We started to play well after the second goal went in, but it looks like some more defensive errors have been our downfall again.

In all fairness, Taylor has been superb today…..Capello will no doubt have written his name down as on to come and see again.

Unfortunately, Man Utd were by far the better team today, but I dont think anyone expected anything else to be honest. It’s probably best to get this loss out the way while we’re managerless so he didnt come straight into a loss.

Here’s hoping that the new boss, whoever he may be, can get the players reinvigorated and bring in some fresh faces in the transfer window.

LOL, what did ye all expect, this is the best counter attacking team in the premiership. With their players what did we honestly expect. We haven’t been playing badly, they’re just too good. Like look at their 3 goals, especially the third one, can you say sheer class.

We just need someone to play alongside Taylor. I think Faye is good enough but Cacapa and Rozehnal are no better than Bramble, probably worse.
