Mirror Says Mort To Face Disciplinary Action

The Sunday Mirror today has the audacity to suggest Chris Mort’s statement yesterday could get Newcastle United into trouble with the Premier League. More complete and utter nonsense from the Mirror.

Chris Mort – Newcastle Chairman did everything legally – of course

The Sunday Mirror today had the following to say about Chris Mort’s official statement made yesterday, regarding the Harry Redknapp saga:

“Rival clubs will be astonished by a revelation in Newcastle’s official statement.”

It said – “We can confirm that Harry Redknapp is one of the people the club has spoken to.”

“If Newcastle have approached Premier League bosses without permission they may be accused of making an illegal approach and face disciplinary action.”

Of course what the Sunday Mirror conveniently omits from their story are various statements by Peter Storrie, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Football club, stating that Newcastle had indeed made a formal approach for Harry and that he was sleeping on it over Friday night.

And then of course, Peter issued this statement yesterday lunchtime on behalf of the Portsmouth Football Club, about Harry’s decision:

“He thought about it overnight and decided to stay,” “He wants to stay in the job he’s been doing so brilliantly.”

It could hardly have been an illegal approach if Storrie has commented several times on the move publicly. More Utter tripe and sensationalism from the Sunday Mirror.

Comments welcome.

If you had to be sure of the truth before printing stories, the Daily Mirror would be blank every day.

Mort said he has been in touch with a number of potential candidates. If they are under contract, he will need permission to speak to any of them and it would surely have come out by now.

If they are not under contract and available, he can talk to them as often as he likes and no one would have to be asked for permission, so no leaks.

Now, can we think of any good managers who may not be under contract, who would be available?????

I can think of a couple!!!!!

Maybe missed something here, but while the Mirror are complete twats, what they may be getting at is the “one of the people the club has spoken to” reference..

Of course we had permission from Pompey, but what about the clubs of the other managers Chris claims to have approached? I have no doubt we’ve done nothing wrong, and the other clubs have a better media officer than pompey and therefore don’t leak things out. And at any rate, who’s to say the candidates are even in England or covered by the Premier League?? Utter rubbish..

Mort is one of the best lawyers in England, so he knows this legal/illegal stuff perfectly. can’t see he’s done something illegal.

Obafan, the season is a right-off anyway now; All we have to do is avoid relegation.

The rest of the season should be spent letting the new manager settle in, sort out his backroom staff and assess the playing staff he inherits.

He can then spend the summer with Ashley & Mort bringing in the players for next season and getting rid of those he doesnt want, so that we hit the ground running and aim for a European place from day 1.

Are they about to charge a Lawyer with disciplinary action?

    Ha…now that’s laughable.

Think Mort is smarter than to step past the ILLEGAL line.
