Initial Reflections on Newcastle Stoke Game

If you don’t beleive one person can make a huge difference in this world, then just look at what happened to Newcastle United football club today.

Kevin Keegan – at the game tonight and the players responded

Kevin Keegan was appointed manager around about 5pm today and by some coincidence Newcastle gave their best attacking display of the season when they demolished Stoke 4-1 tonight in their 3rd rounbd replay at St. James’ Park. That was even though Newcastle were reduced to 10 men when Emre was sent off after 29 minutes, and Stoke got their goal very late after 89 minutes.

  • The lads played very well and were a good yard quicker than Stoke City tonight, and it looked like a Premier side against a Championship side tonight.
  • It was Stoke City’s first defeat in 13 games, so it’s not that Stoke City haven’t been playing well.
  • All the players turned up tonight with renewed enthusiasm, and many players had very good games tonight including Charles N’Zogbia in central midfield and Michael Owen up front.
  • Charles N’Zogbia played in central midfield and had a great game and was voted man of the match. Maybe this is his best position for Charles and we could have a diamond in the rough with the young French dynamo.
  • Mike Ashley was sitting tonight between two of our former managers tonight – Sir Bobby Robson and new manager Kevin Keegan. It seems like the club are using Sir Bobby Robson’s huge knowledge of the game and Bobby was very positive on the appointment of Kevin today – but that’s because Bobby’s at the heartbeat of the Newcastle club, just like other supporters.
  • You’ve got to believe that Ashley and Mort feel very very good tonight. Not only have we got through to the next round of the FA Cup but things are looking really good for the future and the Mike Ashley era really started today.
  • With the players and the crowd inspired tonight, this was the perfect response we had hoped for – and it looked like it was what Stoke expected too. They were second best all night, in contrast to the first game.
  • It’s good that Nigel Pearson was able to get the lads recovered from the Manchester United game and credit has to go to Nigel too.
  • It was a great win tonight and will only water the mouths of the faithful Newcastle United supporters, some of which will not get much sleep tonight.    😀

It will be much harder this time around for Kevin, but he seems to already have got a response from his players, just by being present at the game tonight.

This is the new era that has started for Mike Ashley and Chris Mort – and they’ve chosen Kevin Keegan to ignite the team. into being successful.

First things first… let’s get the team playing together and enjoying it. This hasn’t happened since round 1 this season. Midfield is the main problem – some creative types needed in transfer window: one young up-and-comer who can buddy up with Zog, one crafty older type to teach.

I’ll leave it to the regulars to comment on exactly who.

MOTD did show extended highlights of the game. You just had to press the red button and it took you to another channel with MOTD extra on it.

For those that didn’t see it. Duff was amazing. His fourth goal was simply terrific. And better still for each goal, Ashley, Mort and Keegan were jumping around like giddy school children.

    From the highlights I saw.

Nzogbia was mesmerizing and Keegan seemed very impressed with him.

Duff played like he did at Blackburn.

Owen was so impressive and lively around the 12 yard box. The defenders didn’t know where he’d run to half the time. He constantly dragged defenders away leaving the space for Milner and Duff to run into. A world class player.

Milner’s pace caused chaos down the right. He keep making them run backwards the whole time. His goal was excellent. A knock down from Viduka and he picked it up and buried it into the bottom from 15 yards. Mort jumped about 10 feet off the ground in excitement.

You could tell from the body language of the players that they were glad to see the back of Fat Sam.

All in all we played with a swagger and confidence I haven’t seen for years.

The Zog has always shown he was class imo. I hope that this is the start of many good things.

We kinda knew we had a half decent squad but kinda without the right direction.

Now it’s just 1 game and Pearsons’s done well 🙂 with a little help @D

Ah I’m gonna wake up tomorrow and it’s all been a dream(and a hangover) Let the good times roll as the great Jimmy Hendrix would sing 😀

Are you watching Fat Sam? THIS IS THE FOOTBALL WE HAVE BEEN SCREAMING FOR. This is the same squad you had and look at the difference. Stay away from SJP.

Refs have to make up their mind, I know it’s different for each incident but if they’re going to clamp down on these high tackle which they’ve unofficially are kinda doing they should just say it. It was a bit soft but he was left with no other option really but to send him off. IMO though there’s a wee bit of confusion of what’s red cardable these days and what’s not, I wish they’d just make it clear.

The tackle on Emre was worse than his retalliation imo but it’s history 4-1 and we’re back in business.

Redknapp you’ve made out of the situation and cant’t wait to turn u over at every possible opportunity.

EPL beware we’re gonna have a ball at SJP.
