Newcastle In Loan Deal For German International

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Newcastle are trying to bring a defender in during the January transfer window even though they are still without a manager.

Christoph Metzelder – 6’4″ German Defender January target for Magpies

Newcastle are said to be trying to bring in the Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder on loan, despite the recent upheavals at St James’ Park.

Metzelder only joined Real Madrid last summer after he was also a target by Tottenham last summer, but he has had very few games in the Madrid side this season. He can play center-back or right-back and seems like a very good player who has played for Germany 39 times.

Metzelder is 27 years old and is considered a world class central defender and since he stands over 6’4″ tall, he is very strong in the air. He can also play on the right side of defense and his tackling skills make him a solid and complete defender.

Sir Alex Ferguson was quoted as saying Christoph was one of the best central defenders, and one of Manchester United’s top choices to replace Gary Neville.

His career record is as follows:

  Year Club Games Goals
1999-2000 Preuben Munster 32 2
2000-2007 Borussia Dortmund 126 2
2007-present Real Madrid 7 0

2001-present Germany 39 0

We are hoping that Mort and the rest of the Newcastle staff are at least tracking some players that can be brought in quickly in January, once the new manager is announced. However, it looks like Portsmouth will beat us to Arsenal’s Lassana Diarra.

Maybe we mentioned to Harry Redknapp over the weekend he was one of our targets.   🙁

Comments welcome.

would be an unbelievable catch but i honestly cant see it. . .not unless we get in a quality manager that is respected throughout the footballing world before trying to sign him on loan.(Managed to get him on football manager though so you never know lol)

he doesnt have a chance of getting into the madrid team at the moment with cannovaro and pepe doing well so we might have at least some chance of getting him on loan.

ive heard alot of good things about metzelda, plus he has a cool name.

6.4 is a good height and is strong plays both center back and right back so its a good adition if we can get him in and if he does well get him signed up fully… but this is all smoke in the window because i doubt that we will get him

Carr would be best to stick himself in first and just bugger off – He’s not and never has been wanted, bye bye!

I hope this is not another sighting of the Babe Acrobatic formation flying Team.

Would be a nice welcoming present though for Alan when he is confirmed in the job soon.

I would rather see Duff than Carr at RB, he did well enough tracking back at Stoke. Play Lua Lua up front.

This is a repeat of a comment I posted earlier but thought it worth while to say again.

Did anyone watch MOTD tonight there was some very enigmatic comments and knowing glances re Shearer of the nudge nudge wink wink type. The body language suggests they know something. I would get any spare cash on him, although not your house.

Wasn’t so much what they said but when they mentioned his name they had silly little grins on their faces which suggested they knew something. As I said it was more a body language thing and Hansen has been pushing Shearers name forward for some time.
Obviously they couldn’t say anything outright but they gave the impression they wanted to.

I could be totally wrong, but keep watching that space.

Black and White Blood, yeah read it, phew, takes about an hour to scroll down that thread now.

I presume you have been following the saga throughout and KK+Shearer has been my tip all along although Jose is my preferred choice.

It was the Telegraph article by Hansen about a week ago (or is it more now, seems to have gone on forever) which made me really convinced.

    Still you never know. 😉

Shearer’s on MOTD tomorrow (tonight) not at the Toon game ! I’d expect the BBC would let him miss the programme IF he had something more important to do.

Shearer has said he would take the job,but nobody has approached him.He also said he would come in as an assistant.Looks like shearer aint our man.Do u think deschamps could do the job?im not to sure, and he wants zola to come in as his number 2.Deschamps,zola and shearer if only we had them in there prime.but i dont think deschamps would get a look in with butt and smith in midfield!

I hope a manager has been chosen behind the scenes, because if there hasn’t, the transfer window is rapidly reaching closing time ,and would you trust this bunch of “players” to keep us in the premiership?Make no bones about it with the up and coming fixtures the bottom three(Derby apart) could be snapping at our heels.

Shearer also say’s he’d jump at the chance to take the No 2 job, although he thinks the new boss will want his own man.

Should be interesting as I reckon it will be tomorrow morning/afternoon that we finally get the news we’ve been waiting for!

Mick G – He’s convinced you, but there’s only man he has to convince and Ashley has not been convinced at all.

If you had a £200,000 Ferrari would you give the keys to someone who cannot drive?

No chance of Shearer being involved this time.

Midjew – As I said, the Deschamps story is nonsense started by Sky Sports. Have a look at what the BBC said this morning:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7191178.stm

So he’s never even met Mort. Sam BS story that they ran with Hughes, and Houllier.

Based on what Mort has said and Reps of Managers have said about not being contacted by Newcastle. We have no idea who the new manager is that Ashley has been speaking to this week. All we know for a fact is that it is NOT any of the following:

    Redknapp
    Hughes
    Houllier
    Deschamps
    Shearer
    Keegan
    Mourinho

Outside of this list it could be absolutely anybody..
