Given – The Dream’s Come True

Shay Given couldn’t keep the smile off his face, when he was interviewed after the game last night by Sky Sports.

Shay Given – delighted that Keegan is new Newcastle manager

Shay was signed by Kenny Dalglish from Blackburn Rovers just 6 months after Kevin left the club (Kevin left January 8th, 1997).

The Irish international has obviously been on a high since the news of Kevin’s return was announced on Wednesday afternoon, and he said the rest of the players had been on a high too.

King Kev was at St James’ Park last night to see his team progress to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup with a very convincing 4-1 victory over Stoke City. Newcastle played with just 10 men drom 29 minutes when Emre was handed a straight red card – but that didn’t seem to affect Newcastle in the least.  They scored their second goal a couple minutes after the sending off.

Kevin seemed to enjoy all the Newcastle goals as he was sitting between Owner Mike Ashley and Chairman Chris Mort. Mike and Chris also had huge smiles on their faces after the goals, and at the end of the game, as Kevin shook each of their hands. It certainly looks like they have an excellent relationship with each other, which should auger well for the future.

When Shay was asked what he thought of Keegan’s appointment as the new manager of newcastle after Kevin signed a 3.5 year deal, Shay said:

“The dream’s come true.” “The hairs stood up on the back of my neck.”“It gave everyone a huge lift before the game. Everyone’s pinching themselves around the north east. The dream’s come true.”

“Kevin Keegan has a lot of work to do with the squad and the team but hopefully there are exciting times ahead.” “We hope to get back to where we were the last time (he was in charge). He nearly won the league.”

“Everyone remembers the entertaining football we used to play under Kevin Keegan. Hopefully we can do that and get the right results as well.” “With him in charge I think we are heading in the right direction.”

It’s not only the fans who are ecstatic that Kevin Keegan is back at Newcastle United – the players are too. 😀

given can’t stop smiling? Its gonna take a very good surgeon several hours to remove the grin from my face the way I feel about all this!

However, it will take time as there’s a lot more competition these days for the top places but I’m sure that given time, keegan will deliver!

I definitely think that players play better when they’re happy. Given, despite what he says I don’t think he was happy with Sam at all. There was like this big cloud over Newcastle, all this doom and gloom ever since Sam came.
I think we’ll see better performances from everyone now. I think they’ll be happy. I don’t think I ever remember Shay saying he was happy when Sam was there and I definitely don’t remember him smiling from ear to ear. Players, especially Given play better when they’re happy.

I think, I hope things will get a lot better now and with a wee bit of luck hopefully things will change and I can’t wait for it to start.

Ed, With all due respect to my fellow country man, Shay Given, you should also include Steve Harper on your banner.
